Fear didn't originate as hate, it originated as something those people can't understand, if you can't understand something you usually fear it, and out of this fear arises hate. But you can't say because of this homophibia or transphobia actually means hate, because not all homophobes hate gay people, just like not all bigots are homophobes. Words mean what they are understood as, but only as long as there's no rule prohibiting that.

As I said before, the parts that make up a word are only relevant when looking at words in their etymological context. Trying to pin down their meaning in the usage of today by analysing their compounds is nonsensical. My example with OCD works well here again because nobody would say: "Sorry, but I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive disorder when it comes to that.". The way OCD is used nowadays has created a new meaning for that word that has nothing to do with its compounds.

And now you're arguing something that I simply cannot comprehend how it could come from a linguist: bigotry is not used in the same way as homophobic or transphobic. They are in no way synonyms.

I don't know how I can explain that it isn't right. I understand that it has to do a lot with perspective, and that there is no 'purpose' to evolution. You also may see my arguments as "conforming to gender stereotypes". But there's a reason these stereotypes exist, and a reason they should be conformed to.

If you saw a person who didn't feel pain, you would see that as a disorder. It clearly isn't right. Maybe it might benefit them in some cases, or maybe they might enjoy it, but it objectively is not right.

Someone who is unable to process reality has a disorder.

A girl who throws herself into bed with every guy she meets is mentally unwell. She has a disorder, it isn't right.

A mismatch between the purpose of the body you have and your minds intent (homosexuality or transsexuality) is undoubtedly a disorder! You said it yourself, transexuals want treatment for this "birth defect". I'm fine with them doing that, I'm fine with people boffing whomever and however and howoften they would like. But you can't say it isn't a mental disorder. I don't care if some 'progressive' doctors claim otherwise. Well, here's the thing. The definition of 'mental disorder' is subject to some contention, but as of the latest (4th) revision of the DSM, the psychology community defines it as such:

"A mental disorder is a psychological syndrome or pattern, which occurs in an individual, and causes distress via a painful symptom or disability, or increases the risk of death, pain, or disability; however it excludes normal responses such as grief from loss of a loved one, and also excludes deviant behavior for political, religious, or societal reasons not arising from a dysfunction in the individual."

Ok, it sounds like you could say that the only negative of homesexuality comes from the fact that it is negatively viewed by some parts of society. Other than that, it doesn't really affect homosexuals everyday lives. Strong case for it not being a mental disorder.

On the other hand, and excuse the ad hominem, this is from a group of people (psychologists) with a childish obsession over genitalia. To be more logically sound, this is from a group whose opinions change with the seasons, and are continually proven wrong. I do get that psychology may be the trickiest subject to find objective truth in.

I will interpret the definition as such: A mental disorder is a disorder that, independent of society, causes a difficulty in how the brain communicates with the body.

Here are some agreed upon mental disorders, summarized:

Anxiety: The brain falsely perceives some danger that is not real and not a threat to the body, causing the body to act irregularly.

Depression: The brain does not properly illicit full functionality of the body because of emotional duress.

Gender Identity Disorder: The brain does not properly utilize the genitalia of the body.

DO NOT be convinced because it is in the DSM-IV. A big reason it is in there is so that sex-change operations can be covered by insurance. Be convinced by what you believe to be logically correct.

In that case I don't have a problem with how you use it. However, in certain circles, it's a meaningless buzzword. I found a couple other comments that make the point pretty well:

"It's a buzzword way of saying "I don't like this," without offering any sort of solution to the 'problem' and only providing extremely vague and oversimplified explanations of why it's bad.:

"it's a cheap attempt to get the moral high ground through semantics. In this case, it's an easy way to be pro-censorship without saying it. "I'm not saying you should be forcibly silenced. I'm just saying you're problematic..."

So if you're saying, "This OS update is problematic. There have been a lot of reports of it breaking X process", then that's fine.

But if you're criticizing something subjective, say "The way this video clip depicts a woman slipping and falling on a banana peel is problematic", then for me at least, it's a red flag that you're about to do some intellectual masturbation that boils down to grandstanding and over-inflating the importance of your subjective feelings.
