Grab a sewing machine! There was a post not too long ago about learning to see. I started with latch hook, moved to knitting, and landing on sewing and quilt making because it’s the product lasts tenfold times longer than any knitted counterpart.

Sewing does have a higher learning curve and investment than knitting. I would recommend starting with something like a table runner, coasters, or an apron. These are easy projects and once you’ve finished something, you’ll be hooked.

Not super crafty but I love gardening for the build a home out of a house mindset. It's amazing to be able to plant food used to feed the family! And you could get creative with a garden outside.

I think cross stitch is adorable and looks relatively beginner friendly. I see a lot of short easy tutorials for it.

Counted cross-stitch. Magazines have free kits usually. Great for home decoration, personalised gifts and quirky greets cards. Simple to do

Fleece blankets....2 pieces of fabric the same size, cut the sides and tie 2 pieces together all around.
Paint!!! It's so easy, fun and endless. You can collect things along the way to glue on, I love mixed media...throw it on there!
Get some old furniture and paint it!
Get old clothes /new/thrift and cut em up/bleach/tie dye!
Make collages and frame them!

I've been doing hand embroidery on things like kitchen towels and cloth napkins. It has very low equipment needs and costs of entry, so if you don't like it it's not a huge loss.

I found a set of cloth napkins on super clearance at HomeGoods, too, and am planning on embroidering our last initial onto them, but in a slightly different style on each. That will be my first foray into pattern design, so wish me luck!

Hey! I’m not great at knitting, but I learned from my mom. Learning from an actual person may help you! Some yarn shops have clubs or usually someone available who can help you along. One of our shops literally has a room filled with comfy chairs and tables for people to commingle and knit.

Also, better yarn might help. I don’t think I’ve seen yarn at the dollar store before, but I bet it’s acrylic which is harder to use. Stores like hobby lobby sell yarn specific for babies which has fire retardant in it, but seems easy and it’s not super expensive.

As for another craft, you could try your hand at scrapbooking! It seems like a lost art almost 😅

I learned how to do floral arranging with fresh and fake flowers. It's been the single greatest skill I have developed. Fresh flowers truly add a lot of elegance to a home. But I also make stunning holiday arrangements with fake florals. Good fake florals are pricey. But I can get many years out of them. My Fall & Christmas decorations are STUNNING. I also make all our wreaths. And I give floral arrangements all the time. I get tired of some flowers I've used for a couple of years? I make a wreath and give it away.

If you love a country look you can do a lot with floral arrangements, but I prefer understated preppy classic vibes. So I have to be kind of selective.

Congrats on the baby! I like sewing, crochet and knitting. However just calligraphy is something I would do, or simple watercolors. Something abstract.

Hmm maybe try learning that later h hook with your friend as well as online video tutorials. If you are really serious about learning a craft, try attending group learning sessions in your area if possible or online group classes, that way you can learn along with others at your own pace.

I proficiently knit, crochet, and sew. Sewing is the most frustrating, knitting can be tricky, and crochet is the easiest in my opinion. Yes you have to learn the lingo, but there are so many great beginner tutorials out there. Each has their own learning curve and you have to be willing to be patient and learn. Flower arrangement or cricut designs are other crafts that you can try. Or wood working if you already have the tools.

I'm an avid knitter and a decent crocheter.

My advice would be - don't give up!

You need to invest some money in good quality needles/hooks and yarn. Even after 10 years, working with low quality needles and acrilic is a nightmare for me - it's unpleasant on the hands, difficult, the stitches come out uneven, the yarn has no stretch and frays...

You don't need to buy much.

Get ONE pair of needles (straight 4.5 or 5 mm aluminum needles) and ONE skein of worsted weight merino wool.

Then pick a quick pattern appropriate to your skill level. Something with just knits and purls, or even just knits (avoid scarves though - they're endlessss). Cast on 30 stitches, knit all stitches until the piece is kind of a square, and voila, you've got a potholder! Attach (securely) a fuzzy bobble or a tiny plush toy at the center, and you made a security blanket for your baby!

Embroidery :) you can buy kits that break everything down for you. Also it took me some time to u first and knitting and I can make nice scarves, some simple hats and socks now.. but kind of limited in my skill and wish to one day sit down and upgrade it. But generally with knitting, I’d suggest to start with simple scarves on two straight needles

Latch hook is simple to learn. I would also suggest loom knitting! It is much easier to deal with than knitting with needles imo. I have knitted a lot of beanies and ear-warmers on round knitting looms and they make great gifts. You could even make pom-poms for them with the yarn.

Another beginner-friendly craft is weaving yarn through plastic canvases. Some things you can make with that are coasters, Christmas tree ornaments, or napkin holders.

Definitely check out the handmade goods on Etsy. Have you seen the dehydrated citrus garland hangings? Latch hook rugs are super trendy now, you would appreciate the functional aspect of your creation but it'll also take days to finish... You can try embroidery art, make a cute family portrait with it. Knitting is very easy, so it crochet but I wouldn't recommend. Finding videos showing the basics is key and a lot of patience. It's painful. I learned a lot from Made With Love By Glama, I did her Tunisian scarf and it took forever and I got carpal tunnel.

You do have to learn the lingo if you want to crochet or knit, but there are many beginner-friendly tutorials that explain the terms! I started about a year ago and it gets easier with practice
