Brushing your teeth isn't about getting them whiter or even battling bad breath. Dental hygiene is EXTREMELY important for overall health. Set an alarm and make yourself do it, get into the habit! It's very hard to start habits but it's great when you build good ones.

My mom got braces in her late forties. My aunty got dental surgery in her fifties. Both looked better for it and never regretted it.

I just brush twice, floss once and sometimes use a mouthwash. I hate flossing with a vengeance, so to cheer myself up, I use insane ridiculous amounts of thread for it. Feels so... extravagant. LOL I know it's stupid.

Kinda like I pair my hair removal with a nice long bath - spoiling yourself a little makes the chores something to look forward to.

So I have crooked teeth and ive never really had a man complain about it. My teeth are visibly healthy and a normal range of white I guess. Not model white but average person white. The crookedness was never really an issue. I am doing Smile Direct right now do straightened them out. They're like Invisalign, but a different system.

If you keep your dental hygiene up to par, and men can see you take care of yourself, the crookedness wont matter to some.

As a man I can say for myself that crooked teeth aren't nearly as gross as bad breath; that is a deal breaker for me and why you should be brushing and flossing daily.

Get yourself a tongue scraper. Gross to talk about but life-changing. I've been using one for a year now twice a day - once in the morning and once before bed and I never have bad breath anymore, not even in the mornings. You can buy them at health stores and Amazon. They are very cheap.

Also it's good not to rinse out toothpaste after you're done brushing - just spit out as much excess toothpaste as possible.

Floss. Seriously.

Adding more:

Don't use a whitening toothpaste or charcoal toothpaste. My dentist told me those can ruin your enamel and if you ruin your enamel your teeth will look more yellow. Carbonated drinks can also ruin enamel. If you want to whiten your teeth get white strips or have your dentist do it.

It IS worth it. I'm not able to get braces (they'd have to crack my entire jaw), so my teeth are crooked and I've got bunny teeth to match. Very self conscious hand-over-mouth type of laugher.

Whiteness matters. I get compliments on my smile all the time, because I smile a lot now (no more covering your mouth!) and my teeth are super white. So it's always "Your smile is so contagious!" or "wow your teeth are so white". No one notices how crooked they are anymore and no one makes fun of my bunny teeth (in fact my fiance loves them).

Confidence matters here, cleaniness matters here. Focus on what you CAN change. Then, you'll be prepared for when you can get your braces on. I didn't get braces when I was young because I didn't want to have the braces when I was in my "prime time". I completely get that! But I moved on and didn't get them - huge mistake.

The roof of your mouth (the bones) are much more adaptable when you're younger, it's less painful and faster than if you do it later in life.

Sure, it'll feel like shit but if you're braces free by 25 you'll be really happy you did it.

In addition to the other great advice given already, I just want to add that it’s never too late to get braces!

My teeth were relatively straight, but I had too many for my mouth which resulted in my eye teeth overlapping like fangs. I got braces put on when I was 20 and when I got them off at 22 it was such a world of difference for my smile and my confidence!

What I did to minimize the appearance was get ‘clear’ braces on top and metal on bottom since you couldn’t really see my bottom teeth that much. It also dramatically reduced the cost. You might want to discuss this option when you go to the orthodontist. No one ever commented on them or made me feel funny for wearing them. I’m in my mid-30s now and definitely don’t regret getting them!

Always floss. People who don’t floss have a poopy smelling mouth even if they brush because little pieces of food get stuck back there and biodegrade. Bonus points is that you might not even notice the gross smell because you get used to it, and people don’t like being rude so they will just avoid you at all costs. I use those little flossers because they are handy and easy to use. I even use regular floss even more now. The best thing you can do for your mouth is brush and floss and ideally a daily mouthwash. But at least once a week.

Oral hygiene is very important to your health the bacteria that can grow in an unclean mouth can get into your intestinal tract then into your bloodstream. I would recommend that you go to a dentist get an evaluation and treatment plan. Then see an orthodontist, let them both know so they can coordinate your treatment. I didn't know about good oral health until I was in my 20s. It's one of the best things you can do for yourself. Especially if you want to attract an attractive and ambitious guy.

There is a lot you can do for your teeth, but if your hygiene is bad, even small goals are an improvement. Brush morning and night-- that is non-negotiable. You should floss every day, but if you can't manage that, aim for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Seriously, anything. Mouthwash is also a super easy thing to add in. You will feel so much fresher for doing this, even if its annoying to remember.

Bad oral hygiene can cause you bodily health issues later in life, and when bacteria is growing in your body, it affects everything, not just one place. Keep that in mind-- it is about more than the way you look or smell. And it really won't be that bad once you make this a routine. If you care about having crooked teeth, you should also care about having bad breath. This one is so easy to solve that you shouldn't hesitate at all-- it will really improve your life.

I just got my braces off a few months ago. I was in my 30's when I got them. It's never too late.

With regards to oral hygiene, set two reminders on your phone - one in the morning, and one at night. Go to your bathroom within 5 minutes of each of these reminders, and brush your teeth. There's a million guides on the internet as to HOW to brush your teeth, so look some of those up and make sure you're doing it right. Floss afterwards. Get some of those handheld floss picks if you don't want to use conventional floss. Do this every single time you brush - it will help get/keep your gums in good health, which is a giant prerequisite for getting braces. After you're done flossing, use mouthwash according to the directions on the bottle.

In about a month or so, your teeth should be healthy enough to visit a regular dentist for a checkup. Make sure they know of your intent to get braces, and have them help you with creating a treatment plan that will move you forward in that direction. If they tell you differently than I did, listen to them. I'm not a dentist, I'm just a guy who got braces in his 30s.

There is an ingredient called delmopinol you need to Google. Use this in a mouthwash once a day and it will completely change your oral hygiene game.

Also get floss on a stick. They encourage me to floss every day.

So, I don't know how motivating this will be to you, but it sure is for me- when I floss at night, especially those back top and bottom molars, even if I flossed not 24 hours prior, the gunk that comes out and on the floss stick reeks. It's so gross, and it's always such a relief to have gotten it out. Smell that a few times and it's sure to motivate anyone who wants to be healthy and take care of their body to floss regularly.

I have naturally straight teeth, but over the past few years from drinking coffee and tea regularly, paired with my lack of whitening, they've started looking dull and gray/yellow. I have incorporated a cheap and effective whitening routine and it's been brightening them up. I'd be glad to share it with you if you're interested.

Your friends might tease you and you’ll feel a little silly for awhile, but you really won’t be any less cute. It shows initiative that you’re choosing to make the most out of your looks

1-You’re breath is probably terrible if you don’t take care of your teeth and that’s just gross. Don’t be the smelly girl.

Buy a few tooth brushes, toothpaste and reach flosses and leave them everywhere. Car, in your shower, medicine cabinets, in all your bathrooms and just start brushing.

If you are just starting a teeth hygiene habit then make sure you use mouthwash. There is mad amounts of bacteria between your teeth and it can make you sick when you dislodge it. Sore throats, runny nose, etc.

Brush you teeth every evening extremely well - not enough to just go through the moves, actually run your tongue on all surfaces and make sure they feel clean and smooth. Ask your pharmacist for tablets that you can chew after or before brushing that will turn all plaque red so you can find spots that you tend to miss.

Morning brushing can be more careless and quick.

(I've done this all my life and never had cavities although I'm in my fourties now. Last time my dentist told me to come back in five years for my next checkup.)

I haven’t found that brands of toothpaste or mouthwash are different. I don’t think you need more knowledge. I think you just need to do it.

I got braces when I was 26? because that’s when I could afford the 5k. You are by no means too late. If you can afford this then you should do it.

I don’t know how crooked we’re talking, but if flossing is difficult use a water pick. If as of this second your teeth have to be crooked because you’re not approved yet, they don’t also have to be nasty. Do what you can. I very much doubt that you will be passed up for having braces.

Crooked teeth aren't a turn off for most people. I have what people call a "million dollar" smile and none of my boyfriends have had perfect teeth. Bad breath is the only turn off.

Use those flossers/ floss pickers. Floss while you watch or stream your favorite show. Go over your teeth twice.

If you are really lazy, brush your teeth at the same time you take a hot shower in the morning.

Cut out juice and pop, drink plain water instead.

Munch cheese and apples. These are foods that clean your teeth while you eat them.

Braces are a good idea once you get a handle over your oral hygiene. They will make a huge difference in your confidence. I know they did for me and my friends who had them.
