Realistically if you want to be a virgin till marriage, then you need to choose a guy who wants the same thing. You should probably find him at the same religious institution that convinced you that this is what you want.

Speaking as a man, few men who have experienced sex is going to commit without having sex. Because we know, if the sex isn't good, the relationship will suck, and who wants to gamble on that?

Unless you want to play a steep numbers game, your best bet is a religious man.

You ideally want a man who is himself a virgin out of personal conviction, and actively wants (rather than merely accepts) a virgin bride. Most such men are religious in the West, although you could find someone nonreligious in a more traditional culture. Either way, traditional people meet via traditional avenues like parents or church.

A man who has no feelings this way or that concerning whether or not he has sex with someone before marrying her is okay too, but that person is less similar to you (since you do have a strong feeling).

A man who sleeps around but wants a virgin bride will not treat women well. He mi

A man who would rather have sex, but is willing to wait it out till marriage, is willing to compromise his true desire is therefore a lower quality person. (Unless he's doing it because he really likes you that much as a person, but it's hard for most to tell the difference between affection and desperation).

edited previous comment, see again.

Meet someone through your parents. Alternatively look for a man from a conservative culture. Lots of countries in Asia or Africa still have people with traditional values who are not religious, and immigrants from those countries sometimes retain those values (Immigrants form China, India, Nigeria, etc). Or if religion isn't actively a negative, just loosely associate with religious folk.

Or, marry a young man. Young men who have not yet have had sex are going to be more open minded about marrying without sex. Hopefully you're young.

I walked away from my faith when I went to college, I grew up in a bit of an extreme religion (faith healing) but I do miss the community that I had at church. There are a lot of people who are not particularly religious but enjoy having a loving community that looks after their own. Perhaps another way to think about going to church.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Why do you want to wait then? Not to offend you, just curious.

Ok, I get that. And you're right, we all have our own way to get what we want out of life.

Perhaps it's better to say that you're focused on LTRs/are marriage-minded instead of being focused on flings and short-term relationships like many people. If he also says he's marriage-minded, you have something to work with and may be able to bring up the "virgin until marriage" aspect without it being an immediate scare for a guy.

Hey I know exactly where you're coming from but could you answer some questions so that I can give a more tailored response?

  • Where are you meeting these guys?
  • How soon are you telling them your intentions regarding sex?
  • Where and when are you telling them? In a restaurant or in bed, 5 seconds before he tries to go all the way?
  • How are you telling these men? What are the words and tone that you generally use?

Looking forward to your response!

For the most part I'm not looking. But I take a couple of classes at the university close to me and I also run a small clothing business in my home.

So where exactly are you meeting them? In class? At parties? In church?

I tell the guys right after they ask me out before the first date. As soon as a bloke asks me for a date I'm upfront and say that I'm not looking for any kind of sex because I want to remain a virgin.

That is way too soon! You're scaring them off by stating this before they even get to know you. You should wait and have the conversation closer to when things become exclusive. Also you should try to meet men in settings where people share the same desire as you. How old are you and how old are the men you're seeing? If you're young and plan on marrying soon it would be beneficial to go older, so that the man you're with is ready to settle down and doesn't have to wait that long.

She's not saying to lie, just wait until you have gone on a few dates and prior to getting into a relationship with them. Saying "I want to be a virgin until my wedding night" is going to immediately make ANY guy run. Yes, she has to tell the truth because it is important - but no it doesn't have to be disclosed right when she meets a guy.

You seem to think /u/Camille11325 is saying that the OP needs to trick a man into commitment and then explain her deal-breakers, which isn't the case. Relationship deal-breakers need to be disclosed prior to forming an exclusive relationship.

[–]Camille113252 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Going on a few dates and making sure to bring up the virginity clause BEFORE getting exclusive makes perfect sense to me. Waiting until he's asking for an exclusive relationship, i.e. waiting until he's already gotten rid of any other women in his life, WOULD be a problem in my mind. But as long as she shares her values before that point I think she's completely in the clear. People date in order to get to know other single people, to see if a relationship is a possibility. Disclosing her virginity while dating makes sense, because that's the stage where relationship deal-breakers are disclosed. A married man is different- he would need to disclose that earlier because dating wouldn't be meeting its purpose of helping single people get to know each other.

[–]PhantomDream09 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That in my mind is lieing, in todays modern society sex is part of a normal relationship whither you like it or not.

It's not lying, it's a perfectly acceptable time-frame to get to know someone before listing off various deal-breakers. Leading with "these are the things I MUST have" to a guy you just met is not only pushy, it's unattractive. I have no problem with sex provided a committed relationship has been established and users have already informed the OP that she is severely limiting her potential pool of compatible men based on this deal-breaker. Waiting for a few dates isn't misleading, it's taking the time to see if there's any kind of interest in each other on the most basic level before talking about whether or not a 'next step' is possible.

Not disclosing that you dont intend to take part in what most people believe to be a normal part of a relationship is a lie of omission.

It would be if she never covers it. She's looking for a relationship, which takes time to establish, the first step is simply seeing if the personalities mesh and there's a mutual attraction.

Gets the same treatment as any normal lie by any man with a back bone.

If they have the patience of a two year old and an inability to understand that dating is a process.

if a man dated a woman without telling her he is married and had sex with her a proceeded towards a relationship with her as long as he never said he was single then he isnt lieing?

On what planet is "wait 2-3 dates and then discuss deal-breakers" the same as "screw a woman when you're married, start a relationship with her, and then tell her about your wife."

That's not an example of "the shoe being on the other foot" - that's an overreaction on your part as a man. I agree she'll have an exceedingly difficult time finding a significant other with this standard, and that she's diminishing her dating pool significantly. That said, it's no where near the same as misrepresenting yourself as single and turning someone into a cheater.

Everyone has an agenda, 2-3 dates is not unreasonable or deceptive, it's practical and prudent. Any guy that sticks around for multiple dates without getting any physical action probably isn't looking for a quick screw and a get-away car. Your primary concern is the man in these scenarios, but the focus here is about giving the OP practical advice. Being honest is always paramount, but disclosing everything right after saying 'hello' is idiotic.

TRP doesn't advise men to go up to women and say "I'm talking to you only because I want to have sex with you" because, although honest, it will be an immediate turn-off.

Advice should be useful and RPW relevant - your line of reasoning is neither of those things.

[–]FuzzyKittenIsFuzzy1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well said.

[–][deleted] 1 points1 points1 points 11 years ago | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]PhantomDream09 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Firstly TRP states if any woman doesnt have sex with you after 3 dates next her hard

I know what TRP says - TRP users also are not solely focused on establishing long term relationships. The RP male approach prioritizes sex first and foremost, this is the RPW sub, and the RP female strategy emphasizes commitment first. That's why there's tension between men and women, we are fundamentally different and want different things from each other. It's called 'battle of the sexes' for a reason.

RPW have to display their value outside the bedroom so that they can earn the commitment of a good man. Not ever RP man is a good man in terms of long-term relationships (partially because not every man wants a relationship, and partially because even the men that do want a relationship may not want a mutually exclusive one). You are failing to understand the differences between TRP and RPW.

No one here is focused on dating a man that participates on TRP. Most users will never even meet a man that knows what "red pill" means. We are focused on finding good men, and that definition will vary a bit depending on every woman's personal preferences and priorities.

[–]TempestTcup2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

RPW doesn't want YOU, so you hard NEXTing would be a good thing.

As a man, I respect the shit out of the way you are completely upfront from the beginning.

[–]tofeelforever6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your phrasing is all off. Whether you intend to or not, you are giving them an ultimatum.

Instead, you should try approaching it with "I am not ready to have sex with someone until I am sure of the relationship". Which is true without putting marriage on the table in the very beginning of the relationship.

[–][deleted] 3 points3 points3 points 11 years ago | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]tofeelforever2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, you can say something up front (depending on how up front you mean). But it's how you phrase it that can really matter.

What exactly do you mean by up front and where are you meeting men? I don't think it's necessarily leading people on to refrain from saying it until things start to get a little intimate. If you're out and about in a public setting, you don't really need to bring up the fact that you don't want to have sex - it's a little awkward to do so. If he invites you over to his place to watch a movie then I would probably bring it up - "that sounds great, but I don't want to give you the wrong impressions, I'm not ready to have sex with someone until I am sure of the relationship".

[–]DoctorWelch 5 points5 points5 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

From what I have read it seems to me you are simply telling them too quickly before the guy has any time to get to know you.

For instance, if I know a girl is not going to have sex with me I am much less likely to engage with her because I feel like I am wasting my time. Yet, if I know a girl is a virgin I am much more likely to desire a LTR with her and excuse the lack of sex but ONLY IF everything else she is bringing to the table is good and we have a connection.

No matter what you do some guys will leave you because they just want a lay, other guys won't leave because that is what they want, and others will be in between and be scared off if you tell them to early. So, my advice would be to get to know them fairly well, go on a few dates, and then maybe talk about it after you feel like you have a connection.

Because sex is very very important to men

[–]DoctorWelch 4 points4 points4 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Basically, if I am looking for sex then obviously I am wasting my time with a girl that is not going to have sex with me.

Don't get me wrong though, as a woman you shouldn't give yourself up to the guys that just want easy pussy. Feminist society has simply given many high SMV guys a wealth of easy pussy available to them if that is what they want.

What I'm trying to say is if I know you are not going to fuck me before I even get to know you then you are a huge investment for possibly little reward. I don't even know if I like you as a person or want an LTR, let alone one with you. So to know that you are a virgin early on is starting you off in a bad position.

Instead, if I started getting to know a girl wondering whether or not I am going to fuck her then I am more willing to put the time in. If I start to like her after a date or two and she tells me about being a virgin I might be like, "Wow, I really found a great girl that I might want to be in a relationship with."

It is simply a matter of timing and investment from the guy. I hope that helps.

No offense taken. Dating with the goal of LTR and family in this society has become extremely fucked if you aren't incased in a religious community, but that is just a reality we have to face.

Believe me, I think a lot of guys would love it if there were tons of girls like you who they could build a solid life with, but that type of woman is so few and far between these days that it is almost pointless to waste time searching for that girl when the guy can just take advantage of the easy pussy available.

The chances of finding an attractive, non-insanely-religious virgin that meets any other possible relationship checkmarks for guys is going to be nearly impossible these days.

[–]DoctorWelch 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm not sure why I scared you. I mean, it's just a matter of who you are looking for and what you want to be with. If you want to be with a guy who has a high value and can get girls easily then you have to deal with the fact that you have slutty competition possibly making it harder for you to secure him in a relationship.

There are definitely guys out there who are virgins that probably have a different take on dating...but chances are they are either very religious, relatively unattractive physically, or just a beta.

Why should you not be in competition? Do men not have a right to like the things they like and spend time with people that give a shit about their desires instead of just their own?

That sense of entitlement is probably a bigger reason why men aren't investing in you than the sex part. It is basically states that what men want from a relationship is evil and selfish while the things you want from a relationship are good or about "real love" or some other trope.

[–]PhantomDream09 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you even know where you posted this thread? Are you at all familiar with RP? You find very basic concepts 'offensive' and you've been doing a heck of a job ignoring/explaining away the advice that everyone has been giving you.

Why are you here?

[–]FuzzyKittenIsFuzzy1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think OP has some kind of 1950's fetish where everything is pure and delightful and women are virgins until marriage and they make all their food and clothing from scratch. Until the 1960's, everyone (including men) did the right thing all the time, including marrying for love and other platonic reasons and not for sex or other dirty carnal desires. RPW encourages women to get back to that pure, innocent state of affairs before the sexual revolution ruined it all, because it's simply the right way to live and we are trying to encourage each other to do the right thing whether or not the consequences are positive. (She probably also thinks TRP is about men encouraging other men to be good, upstanding citizens who want love and not sex.)

What she seems to have missed is that 1950's men had no problems with sleeping around when they could do so, and that marriage was even more about sex then compared to now, and that the whole reason why TRP encourages "traditional femininity" is that it meshes well with men's testosterone-driven sexuality so that we can all get what we want from relationships. RPW isn't about butterflies and hair ribbons, it's about getting married to a high-value man and keeping the marriage healthy. She also seems to have missed the other problems with the 50's including rampant xenophobia and the stress that lifestyle placed on young mothers, leading to race riots and the term "mother's little helper" for addictive anti-anxiety medication, and the fact that the perfect 50's were largely imagined anyway, and that they were definitely not at all representative of how people lived during any generation prior to WWII.

She's getting out of this thread because we are all saying men like sex and she should be more flexible with her philosophical ideas if she wants to get married before turning 78. She thought we were all inflexible like her, and trying to help each other do the right thing even though it screws up our chances at a good life sometimes.

TL;DR: She thinks RPW is about being a 1950's woman because that's the most beautiful way to live life, not because it's helpful in some way, and she thinks that 1950's men were the same as her imagined 1950's women. She's upset that we don't all agree.

Men are mostly physical beings. Our nature encourages us to be polygamous(low reproduction cost) and it's hard to fight against that.

[–]Reddthrown2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

You should look for those men where they are likely to be. Mostly churches, and other conservative groups. There may also be religious dating websites you could consider.

Also, don't mention it on the first date. I might be willing to date someone like that, but would see it as attention seeking if it is mentioned immediately.

[–]FuzzyKittenIsFuzzy2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not about women being an object, men are wired to desire sex. You could have a perfect score in every category that relates to being a good partner in a LTR, but because you don't offer sex you'll still lose to the girl with her ass hanging out. It's just the way we work.

If you don't view dating as a competition then you're going to lose. Women are supposed to win a man's commitment not the other way around.

Including abstain from sex until married.

If you can get married. Look, I'm not trying to force you into having sex before your married, but you should at least understand what it is you're asking for, and to be perfectly honest I understand where you're coming from. You don't understand why it's important to men to have sex, because it's not important to you. You will never truly understand how important sex is to men, because you are not a man, and you don't have high levels of testosterone making you want it.

The best way I've found to understand it, and to explain it, is that sex is the main way men can experience love. Though sex is actually a stronger need for them than love, I think it serves as a good metaphor. When you tell a man you don't want to have sex with him, what you are essentially saying to him is that you don't love him. When you say a man's need for sex is childish, or animal like, you are saying that his need for love is childish or animal like. But, what makes your need for marriage any better than his needs? The fact is that you need marriage to feel loved. You don't have to be married, no. But you sure would like it if one day someone loved you enough to marry you.

The fact is that we are all controlled by our animal urges. Yes, even you. That is why you want to wait for marriage to have sex. You on some animal level understand that giving up sex to just anyone, is somehow wrong. You're right, but you don't know why.

[–]eatplaycrushEndorsed Contributor1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And from what I've read (and been told) the actual sex act lasts less than 5 minutes.

Yeah, you'll never understand why men and women both enjoy sex, until you experience it yourself, if this is what you truly believe. I would be so disappointed if it all lasted five minutes. We enjoy it and have absolutely as much fun with it in those moments.

This entire men are wired to desire sex pretty much relegates them to nothing more than animals in heat.

Exactly. Modern civilization tries to make it seem like we humans have evolved past the need to listen to our basic instincts. The truth is we haven't. We're not some super sophisticated ultra species where 200,000 years of biology and gender roles don't apply. We're animals, just a little smarter than others.

I'm calling troll on your ass. You are a battleaxe and I hope you never torture a man with your frigid attitude. You want a man to bend to YOUR will. Be careful what you wish because you might get that spineless jellyfish of a man that you wish for. And then you will make his life a living hell.

[–]Reddthrown1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As you wish, and I'm sure it will work better within a conservative environment. Just remember I am not giving you this advice because it's a competition - only because it will help if the man you are interested knows you a little before you drop the news (which will be a surprise), and he will be more likely to judge you positively for it.

Am I going about this wrong?

Dating (as my shrink always tells me) is a filtering process. The ones who vanish are probably not what you're looking for. Let them filter themselves out, so you aren't wasting your time.

That being said, what do you mean you tell them "upfront"? If it's your first thing you say before you get to know anything else about the person, that seems to me to be a bit too forward. It would definitely put me off if I go on a date and the first thing the girl tells me is "I want to be a virgin on my wedding day". I'd be thinking "whoa! let's get to know each other a bit first, before we start talking about weddings and your virginity!"

Have some comfortable, fun time to get to know each other a bit before you bring this up. It should only be relevant if you start to get intimate, not before that. Then if they still vanish, you know it's because they don't want that, and not because you scared them off by talking about such a detail too soon.

blokes these days

That's just the nature of men. You have to practice keeping your boundaries in a more casual, indirect way, without having to go full-force into a direct discussion about it so early on.

Guys are pretty much always going to be pushing for more - selectivity is the female sexual strategy, not the man's strategy.

[–]Ojisan18 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm inclined to disagree with you there.

The idea at the core of the red pill is that men and women have an evolutionary biology basis for having developed different sexual strategies. Women are biologically predisposed to hypergamy and protecting the eggs, and making sure they have access to resources to care for and raise the next generation. Men are biologically predisposed to pass along their genes before they die in war or hunting or protecting the women and children. Men are disposable, that's why on a sinking ship the rule of who gets on the lifeboats is "women and children first".

Any idea of chastity for men is only in more recent history, the past few hundred years, driven by puritanical religiosity - not the 10,000 years of biological imperative that came before that. Even in the Old Testament, polygamy was common and accepted. In ancient times, if a woman became a widow, it would be another man in the tribe who would take her as a wife, even if he was already married.

The idea of male chastity is a recent idea, biology is deep-rooted. Men and women evolved to have different sexual strategies because it was optimal for survival of humans as a species.

So I don't think you are being mean at all but I think you are looking through a specific lens. No, male chastity was not strange a few generations ago. But it was strange for 10,000 years up until a few generations ago.

TRP isn't about being traditional as much as it is about learning how people are wired and making use of that knowledge. Men are hardwired to push for sex. Even in the 50s, men slept around when they could get away with it. It was women who were virginal before marriage. Given that fact, and given that you are not wanting a religious man, and given that it's rare for men to decide to remain virgins for non-religious reasons, almost 100% of the men you meet will want to have sex with you before marrying you. It seems you're waiting for a non religious, traditional-minded virgin to ask you for a date, and honestly that is going to be an extremely rare occurrence since even men who value tradition are hardwired to get as much sex as possible. Even rarer would there actually be chemistry between you and that hypothetical man, and wedding bells rarer still. You can spend your whole life waiting, or you can learn how to get a non-sexual LTR (and eventually a wedding) with a man who is a worthwhile partner but who still wants sex because he's a man.

What you are currently doing is saying you don't want to "waste his time or money" if he is hoping to get you in bed. All guys want to get you in bed. Some of them will be willing to wait for you, but you HAVE to give them a reason to wait. That's just biology. You're filtering out all the potential husbands here. You will have to go out with them a couple of times in order to show them the benefits of dating you. Your personality, pleasant conversation, good cooking, whatever your best points are. Only then can you share the drawbacks. Then they can make an educated decision about what they want. Right now they are making an educated decision when they know about the drawbacks and not the benefits, and all of them are checking out, which makes perfect sense. They don't have all the information they would need in order to decide to stay. You are not giving them any reason to say yes, and you ARE giving them a big biologically hardwired reason to say no.

The other problem here is in how you are making the announcement. When people don't know you that well and you have an awkward conversation with them, they will think there's a good chance you're just an awkward person. If you let things play out a bit more naturally you will seem more emotionally mature. Guys (and girls) are wired to seek emotional maturity and good "people skills" in a partner, so having an awkward conversation before they get to know you might be a huge turn-off, even aside from the actual topic of the conversation.

Edit for clarity.

Edit 2: I edited out the word "hook" before reading your reply because I thought there was a better way to say it. But it's not an uncommon way to say "get him interested and keep him interested" and it's not a bad thing as far as I can tell. We use the word in things like "Hooked on Phonics" or "I didn't think I'd be interested in pastry making but I tried it and now I'm hooked! It's just so fun!" You come across throughout this thread as having some fairly rigid ways of thinking, and if life doesn't conform to those ways of thinking then you would rather keep thinking that way than get what you want from life. I say this as a woman who was a virgin until marriage and who would do things the same way over again. It isn't about what your thoughts are, it's about how they are getting in your way and you are still unwilling to reevaluate things.

It sounds like you are more concerned with yourself and how a man can be with YOU than how you can be with a man. I don't think you are as concerned with your chastity as you are with finding a male unicorn who complies with your every whim. You are looking for a man who doesn't exist so that you can be a martyr in your virginity.

I think that went over your head. That person used "hooked" in reference of having a man wanting to be your man.

If you don't want that then why are you here? You want a toy or what?

[–]DevilishRogue1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The younger and less serious the guy the more likely they are to bail on you. The more serious the guy the less likely they are to bail on you. But bear in mind that this isn't exactly the sort of topic you should be having on the first few dates anyway.

[–]TempestTcup1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's a virgin battleaxe. She wants a man to jump through her hoops and bend to her will. She should remain a virgin and not torture some poor guy. She needs 1000 cats, LOL.

1) Meet men who are already like minded to filter out men who want a ONS or FWB. Not at clubs, perhaps through mutual friends, maybe either younger guys who haven't had sex yet and want to wait or older guys who are ready to settle down soon.

2) Make clear in the first few weeks of getting to know each other that you are looking for exclusive long term relationships to weed out anyone who may have slipped through the net.

3) When you have both decided that you want to date exclusively let him know where your boundaries are ("we can kiss but I don't feel comfortable doing more than that with anyone until I'm married because I'd like to save myself for marriage.") and if he voices that he doesn't want to continue to date you then you just stop.

[–]ThorsdaySaturnday1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

OP, I completely understand where you are coming from. I am not at all religious, but I feel that sex is a sacred and highly intimate experience meant to be shared with only the worthiest. This would be someone to whom you are married.

Your virginal status is no one else's business but your own. It's not necessary to disclose it so early on in the relationship. If you must disclose, I would say wait until after the third date. If a guy is really interested in you, he will pursue the relationship even after you refuse sex. If he ditches you, then that's a clear sign that he's not worthy. I actually know quite a few men and women who are not religious, but prefer to hold out for marriage. They are out there!! Take heart.

[–]cxj2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm not trying to change your mind or anything here, but one important thing to consider is that society really is not structured towards waiting till marriage anymore. The wait till marriage model is based around societies where people marry as teenagers, and there are practical working gender roles in place. In modern society, being middle class requires a dual income family model where two adults have finished extensive educations, have established careers and purchased property. The fastest most people can really do this is their late 20s. Most people, especially guys, cant wait that long for sex and shouldn't have to. Its unnatural. People didn't date for years before marrying most of the time, they courted for a few months while their families hashed out a business deal or whatever.

RP goes strongly against the grain in many ways for both genders.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Plus, it was easier for a woman to demand the couple would wait, because most other women were doing it too. Now, sex has become much cheaper, so women who are selling at a high price have to have something really incredible to offer before a man will want to buy.

[–]cxj3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely correct. To be fair, most women can still absolutely get most men to wait, but attractive men are another story.

[–]FleetingWishEndorsed Contributor0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Most guys now-a-days won't go for that deal because there are too many women willing to give it up cheap and easy.

If a guy doesn't like your body, he's not going to try and pursue you for a relationship. Attraction comes first, when a man finds a woman alluring - that's when he's most willing to get to know her personality-wise. Men don't go up to women they find entirely unattractive, and start courting them on the chance they have an amazing personality. That's not to suggest that men don't care about personality, it makes a huge difference. Having an interesting personality and being a good woman is paramount, but don't think guys pay attention to you simply because they think you have a brilliant mind. Part of you includes your body. A man that wants you for your looks and your personality is the kind of man you want to date.

It's not that men think all women are whores, it's that women collectively have made sex (without commitment or marriage) easy to acquire. Why would a man pay money if he can get the same thing for free from ten other sources? That's why we talk about displaying your worth as a woman outside the bedroom and earning the commitment of a good man.

Unfortunately, you have put a really high price on sex (marriage), and in this day and age, that's going to make finding a man willing to go along with those conditions very hard to find, especially if you're opposed to dating religious men (I believe you mentioned somewhere else that you are an atheist). I'm not saying it's impossible, only that you will most likely have to go on a lot of dates before you find someone that you not only 'click' with, but also that's willing to stick around after he finds out that you want to remain a virgin until marriage. It doesn't help that marriage as an institution doesn't have the same kind of importance (or relevance) these days.

I agree with /u/camille11325 that this is a discussion you should be saving for a man once you've had a few successful dates and things are starting to get a bit more serious (but before starting a formal relationship). What you can mention a bit earlier (maybe the 3-4th date) is that you've never slept with anyone before. If you haven't had any prior relationships or dating experience, he may pick up on that a bit sooner since many people discuss previous relationships on dates (though I don't think that's a really great idea as a general rule).

Why bother? If you don't want to put any effort into caring about what men want, and you don't particularly want a man, then go adopt some cats. That's a better alternative then trying to force a man to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't care about his needs.

[–]PhantomDream09 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately I'm not "selling sex".

Yes, you are, and the 'price' is a ring on your finger. It's not a bad thing, relationships operate on transactions - they get something from doing things for you. This is how every relationship works (familial, friend, professional, romantic). That's not to say that emotions aren't involved, they absolutely play a role. There's no such thing as absolute altruism, people do good, generous things because there's a reward for them personally.

I'm not shopping for a man

Any [heterosexual] woman that wants a relationship is shopping for a man. Any woman that wants sex, is also shopping for a man. That's what dating is - meeting new people, and figuring out if they're a good fit. Instead of evaluating seat quality, steering control and engine power - we look at physical appeal, personality (and morality) compatibility, and lifestyle preference.

well I take pride in my appearance and my health and if that's not good enough then so be it.

This is good, you should look after your physical appearance, you just need to make sure that your personality is also attractive.

You take issue with the phrasing because it doesn't align with romantic notions of love. I'm not saying love, trust, devotion, honesty, respect, and generosity are make-believe, I'm saying that there's a cost-benefit to every interaction and we do things that have a higher benefit than the cost.

If you understand that women (in general) value marriage/commitment first and foremost - while men (in general) value sex first and foremost -- then you suddenly start to understand why the idea of 'the battle of the sexes' is so pervasive. Men and women are fundamentally different, what women want from men is *different from what men desire from women.

It's about finding a balance, knowing how to navigate different situations, and understanding how to display the kind of thoughtful, respectful femininity that encourages men to want to commit to a woman to such a degree, that his first priority (sex) is temporarily replaced by another, often less important priority (commitment).

This is the RPW sub, and everything I have said speaks to RP ideas. If the phrasing of an idea is so offensive to you that you miss the underlying point - then you're going to have a hard time figuring out how to achieve your goals. We talk about dating with purpose here, figuring out your weaknesses, turning them into strengths, and identifying personal deal-breakers. One of your non-negotiable items is:

"I will not have sex until marriage"

That is a big part of your personal dating equation. You've already recognized that it makes the dating process harder for you.

There's nothing perverted about understanding the reality of male and female relations. You're inserting your own personal morality (which is why you're currently offended and described the notion as 'perverted') and allowing it to cloud your ability to think and process concepts clearly.

[–]windlabyrinth3 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I just want to comment on your wording because it comes off as you're thinking in extremes.

"Wants me for me and not just my body". That wording sounds like there's no middle ground between virgin and giving it up left and right when there definitely is. My partner and I like each other's personalities just fine and we enjoy having sex.

I used to say I wanted to wait till marriage and things shifted in my life and mind that made me change my position so to be clear, more power to you! I just want to point out that sex can exist as part of a relationship without being the primary factor.

[–]Kittenkajira1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are entering into a relationship with a person, and that relationship is going to be a physical one. Maybe not at first, but it will be one day. You WANT and NEED attraction from both parties. It doesn't mean you're a whore because he wants your body, it means that there is chemistry and attraction from him. That is essential in a relationship, and it's a good thing. It doesn't mean you have to have sex right then.

It's perfectly fine to keep sex off the table for a while in a relationship, and focus on compatibility. You need two things for a successful relationship: compatibility and attraction. You can still explore the attraction without having sex. You, or your prospective partner, are not dirty for thinking of sex.

Just a warning... Some women have made their virginity into such a big deal, that when they finally have sex (with their husband), they feel like they lost a part of themselves. They think they've become immoral and dirty and are no longer "good". It's like you spend your whole life super proud of something, then lose it - it can send you into depression. So tread cautiously. It's okay to wait until you're with your LTR partner, but don't turn it into a big deal.

[–]mrp3anut1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Here is the non feal-good version of what you jsut stated.

I want a man that only cares about what i want in a relationship and doesn't expect me to ever give a shit about what makes him happy.

Men are biologically wired to desire sex. We don not care about romantic dinners, long conversations about the menial parts of our day, what are friends are doing with their lives, etc. We want a relationship with a woman because SEX. Everything else you have to offer we can get from male friend and that friend will empathize with us on a level you will never be able to match.

Your problem is that you are living in a feminist world. If women in general expected men to give a shit about what they wanted before women would put out then men would care. Romance and all of the other flowery things were part of the deal in the old days because it is something that mattered to, and was expected by, women.

So here you are, talking to a guy and placing an expectation on him that he wouldn't mind accepting if there weren't 10 other women just as hot and "interesting" as you willing to have sex with him and give him all the other things you offer as well.

[–]DrJawn0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'd say that you're going to have to meet a guy half way. Once you like him enough to allow him into your feelings and continue to pursue a relationship with him, instead of having sex with him as most people would do, you'll have to tell him you want to wait but in the meantime you're ok with oral or something along those lines. You make your ground rules and see where everyone is at.

Also, if you're not religious, don't marry a religious guy. It'll be a clusterfuck.

Also, everyone is right about looking for men in new places. I'd try trying to meet someone at yoga or somewhere else where centered intelligent people gather (i.e. not a bar) OR really, your best bet is online. That way you can weed out the idiots who are just trying to jump in your knickers before you even go out on the first date.

My point about the religion was if you are not religious, it's very hard to be with a religious SO in any sense of a LTR.

So no bars, no internet, no Bible beaters, no handjobs, no blowjobs. You're looking for a needle in a stack of needles. Good luck and more power to you but compromise will have to enter the equation eventually IMHO.

True. That being said, I think there are very few guys out there these days who want to wait until marriage to have sex.
