he wouldn't have created such a miserable despicable creature as the human female.
Men throughout history have been equally despicable and infinitely more physically violent.
Women treat men like sub-human dirt, sure, but at least they aren't tying you up to a tree and whipping/beating you. They may manipulate you for years and divorce rape you, but at least they aren't committing mass murder.

TL:DR - Was a christian for 11 years. TRPED. I only get what I work for, so why does spirituality matter?
I was an overly zealous evangelical christian for all of my youth (17-28). I did not party, I was a virgin, and I was committed to Christian activities 10-15 hours a week. I became a christian at 17 because I was lonely, had low self esteem, and felt totally lost and unprepared for adulthood. The church was an instant community and sense of purpose (it was one of those big mega churches as well, so it was pretty "cool" compared to the traditional church I grew up in).
Anyway in my late twenties it all came to a head when I woke up one day and realized I was fucking miserable. I found the TRP in that moment, and began to unpack that I was miserable because I was a giant fucking people pleaser, and I had lived the past 11 years of my life for other people and not myself. I had totally neglected all of my needs/wants/desires for the sake of Jesus and the church and couldn't do it anymore.
After reading all of the resources I could get my hand on (PUA blogs, rollo, redpill stuff, no more mr nice guy etc) I began the hard work of becoming a person and becoming a man.
I can't say that I'm an atheist per se, I just don't think spiritual beliefs matter or add any value to my life at this point. I was hyper religious, my faith was the foundation. You would not have found anyone more comitted to their faith than I. I was on mission trips, involved in outreaches, evangelized to my friends/family/co-workers. I was in it 150%. I prayed/served/asked God to do so much in my life, genuinely believing that he was the Source/provider/helper. Yet as I've TRPED, I've realized that there is nothing in this fucking life that I will obtain or achieve without my own effort. Money, relationships, experiences, all of these are the direct result of my effort/action/etc.
And so I beg the question, if everything in this fucking life is dependent on my effort - why the fuck do I need spirituality? Is spirituality gonna give me a smoking hot plate? Help me lose 15 lbs? Deadlift 500 lbs? No? Then fuck off (that's just stream of consciousness of how I feel, I'm not here to hate on anyone for what they believe. Again I just can't see the value for me personally).
Now besides the fact that I don't see any value in it, even if I wanted to believe, where would I turn and who would I believe? There's a shit ton of christian denominations, there's Islam (with it's own sects/divisions), Judaism, etc etc etc. In sum there are a million different belief systems, many of which that conflict with each other, and many of which claim that theirs is the "absolutely truth". In the end people just push their agendas, and only seem to care for you as long as you tow the party line. Once you step outside of that you become an apostate and nobody bothers to maintain a relationship with you.
Christian communities are a joke in this sense. Few of my friends maintain a relationship with me since I walked away, and those that do have walked away themselves (or are the few who are actually capable of critical thinking).

Don't mistake "Churchian" vagina worshipers for "Christians" who follow the actual example and words of Jesus.

There is some sound advice found in the bible,
Proverbs 25:24 Better to live on the corner of a roof than to share a house with a nagging wife
Interestingly enough there are several other proverbs almost the same as this one. I guess to try to get the point across

For me, prayer is a means to discover problem areas in my life, acknowledge what I'm doing wrong and taking f-ing responsibility for it, and then listening for the "still small voice" of God, gently pointing me in the right direction, and saying, "now walk in the way I've pointed you."

Nietzsche believed that Christianity is diametrically opposed to the true teachings of Jesus. I'm not sure if such a Jesus actually existed, but the character is compelling to me. Rather than commit suicide to save us from some original sins that we didn't commit, Jesus was killed because he did not believe in sin at all, he was a free spirit who preached that we are each and every one of us a son of god capable of finding happiness here on Earth. It would then be later priests who invented the concept of an immortal soul, Jesus as the only son of god and savior of our sins, and themselves as intermediaries for God.

I second, TRP theory does not conflict with my faith. They can coexist, although I do refrain from cheating and other similar vices that are accepted. Cheating is still a grey area on this sub though.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The Bible - Jesus, the Prophets, and the Apostles - preach having unusual amounts of self-control. These men teach that it's actually honorable to remain single and celebate yet, if your desires for sex are unquenchable, then to marry a woman and stay committed to having sex with her.
This is a completely understandable way of viewing things, and a philosophy I agree with, but damn - the women of today's day and age make that proposition quite difficult!
[–]1grubek 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It is not a grey area. Trp is not a moral code, although its lessons might predispose you towards certain positions. We are here to analize and understand social and sexual reality.
What everyone does with that knowledge is up to each one of us. Everyone will chose its own moral code, trp does not have an official one, hence the diversity in certain topics.
[–]KIZAN 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I say cheating is a grey area because many see it as amoral and others think its perfectly okay or are just indifferent about it. A lot of posts encourage having options and being able to drop a girl as well as having plates.
The counter argument would be that since its not a LTR its fine to cheat. Yet the same principles can be applied to someone in a LTR, thats why it kind of conflicts.
I do agree with you, its up to us to make our decisions based on what is taught here. Thus the issue of cheating isn't one sided neither wrong or right but depends on the person.

It cemented my belief in myself. Before I would have attributed my success to God but now I know that it was simply because religion is a discipline and discipline breeds success. Now I follow a discipline that doesn't extort money from me.

Yeah I mean it can go either way. I believe that God created science and human psychology, atheism believes it's from natural circumstance, but the end result is the same. I hate the war that religion and atheism created and its so ridiculous how people let beliefs get in the way of progress instead of being like you and respecting the other opinion and accepting actual diversity. I appreciate that.

I third. In fact, this knowledge kinda makes things add up. Growing up, I always wondered why the serpent chose Eve instead of Adam & Alpha Adam, quickly became Beta Adam & now we are here in this mess. Adam was the first alpha & beta male to ever exist. Yet, this happened only after Eve was introduced. Did God make a mistake? No, because He warned them both. Eve was to be nothing more than a "helpmeet". Adam lost sight of that & allowed Eve to change his principles, which was obeying God. Eve, like women were controlled through her emotions & a heady taste for control. By all means, afterwards women changed for the better in the OT, but due to these men of God not breaking their frame....maybe to God, but not them.

My deconversion and taking of the red pill are closely linked, along with a heavy does of millennial with divorced parents syndrome.
TL;DR - Couldn't pursue sex and relationships till I deconverted. Tried to chase pussy and failed. Took the red pill.
I was raised Christian by Christian parents. I was taught that marriage was a holy process and sex had an important spiritual component. It was so intimate that it should only be shared between two people who had promised God they would spend their life together.
My parents took about 4 years to become properly divorced. Started when I was 13/14 and ended when I was around 18. This is when the seed of doubt was planted. At this stage I was still convinced that I would get married in the future (after all, it was the only way I would ever be truly intimate with someone).
I started doing research to learn how to stop my future marriage going the way of my parents'. One of the things that stood out in this quest was the importance of sex. I knew that married couples could have sex, but I didn't think that they actually NEEDED it! I was taught that true love transcends physical lust. Turns out that love just isn't enough, and many marriages have failed due to sexual dysfunction.
Note: through these years I never let myself have any sexual contact with girls, so I didn't learn any of this first hand.
So I discover that apparently people have different sexual tastes (!!!). Some people like BDSM relationships, some people don't like oral, and some girls aren't satisfied by certain shapes or sizes of dicks. The problem is that you can't know what you like if you've never had sex. I read testimonies of couples that were virgins when they married, and came to the conclusion that it was a high risk strategy for a successful marriage.
I was at an impasse. If I wanted to find my soul mate and avoid the ordeal that my parents went through (and afflicted on their children) I would probably need to have sex. The bible clearly said that sex outside of marriage is sinful. But divorce was also sinful. At this point I seriously prepared myself to be celibate for the rest of my life. I continued that way for a couple of years.
When I finally deconverted (that's another story altogether) the puzzle pieces all fell into place. If God isn't real then there is no sin. That means premarital sex isn't immoral, and that marriage essentially pointless. It also meant I could date people who had different beliefs. I started pursuing girls but realised I had no game, no frame, and not enough looks to make up for it. Somehow ended up here after seeing my oneitis disappear into a bedroom with a guy she just met. Read the sidebar, realised it was true, cut her out of my life and never looked back.
"Christian marriages," (whatever that even means nowaday), are an absolute shitshow nowaday. Divorce rates are virtually the same as non-believers, and take a look at so many men in church - fat as hell, with absolutely ZERO balls. Thee most feminized men I've ever met exist in my church.
That being said, every church has those few diamonds in the rough that you can learn from - men and women who actually demonstrate self-control in their lives, and who truly care about the well-being of others. These types of men will actually act as Fathers towards you, if you wish, when you begin attending.
[–]aewiggin 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My father set a good example of the kindness and self control you speak of. However, he didn't teach me much about being a man.
The problem with Christianity is that it's designed to feminize men. It preaches passivity and acceptance of one's situation. It idealizes submission. It's a slave morality.
I refuse to think like a slave.

I think what you don't realize is that you are always following a religion you just don't realize it. By turning away from JudeoChristian values you open yourself up to be influenced by other vales. The left hand path values of the media and state.
Once that happens you are one step closer to joining in the sodom and gomora transvestite SJW freak parade. You might think your this enlightened free thinker, but in reality your a stupid bitch who was manipulated into worshiping false gods.

Disagree with the premise. Sexual strategy is amoral and has no bearing on your religious or moral beliefs. For Christianity/Judiasm, it is obvious that the Bible confirms everything we say about women. From Eve to Priscella, women are portrayed as usurpers whose sexual beast remains contained only so long as men demand it.
if the supposed god was a benevolent god, he wouldn't have created such a miserable despicable creature as the human female.
I have my doubts about just how benevolent my God really is but His creation of women is very well explained in Genesis Chapter 3. The curse of Eve defines Hypergamy, and the inability of women to be happy.
Dalrock and a number of Christian bloggers disprove any claim that Red Pill is inherently atheistic. It can be- but that is your choice.

I was an atheist before taking TRP. I don't take manipulation and bullshit well and that's exactly what religion is. I was lucky to not have been raised in a religious environment so it was a bit easier for me. I'm still pretty sure I would have found my way to atheism either way because for so many things I like to go things my own way. I like to try things and see how it works out. I don't respond to authority and manipulation very well. But the day I really became an atheist was after watching some Christopher Hitchens videos. There are so many types of atheists when you think about it. I feel like the hitchens "archetype" is the most extreme of all : I don't want to live a slave to a dictator in the sky. It's a disgusting thing.
I say that but I'm interested in religions and the power they have to unify and divide societies. I won't go into too much details but I like christians. I think they are useful to us atheists. I also don't think everyone can be an atheist. The fear of death and the belief that the mind is immortal is very strong in some people. If someone is to be religious, it might as well be a christian. It's the softcore religion of the world right now. And it's getting better if I look at what the pope is doing.
I do think TRP and Atheism are connected. TRP is about emancipation from bad parenting/schooling and social programming. Atheism is about emancipation from religion. Getting to true freedom. In both cases you have to free yourself.
[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I was an atheist also but swallowing the red pill made me LESS atheist. I see the value of conservatism and Christianity in a way that I never did before.
In Europe, it was only the countries that are still proud of being Christian (Poland, Hungary, etc) that resisted the Islamic invasion. The atheist ones (Sweden, Germany) were tripping over each other in a race to see who could bend over for Mohammed the fastest.
[–]cariboo_j 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Religion is an effective tool for social cohesion and building community. Atheism has yet to offer a viable alternative for this function of religion.
I still think religion is factually wrong and atheism is correct, though.
Nietzsche warned us of this 100+ years ago. Tearing down the old religious systems of morality will leave a vacuum that might be filled with bullshit (cough social justice). He even identified "the herd morality" as something that might fill the vacuum. What is social justice other than herd mentality? The weak celebrating weakness and mediocrity? Tearing down the strong and excellent to avoid being challenged and preserve their own weak and mediocre ways? But here we are...
Same here. Though I wouldn't say I'm less atheist, as I can't believe less in the absence of a god. Say instead that I was an atheist who saw no value in religion, while now I'm an atheist who does

You're wrong on so many levels :)
[–]RedPillAnonymous 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Russia is more atheist than most of western europe.
The pope represents Christ on earth to catholics. It's central to catholic dogma.
The only reason Europe isn't as bad as the middle east is because it abandoned religion. Trying to prevent Islam with Christianity is like preventing aids by having aids.
They did not occur simultaneously for me, per se, but the process was exactly the same. The more I learned about science and human history, the more I realised religion was nonsense. Likewise, the more I learned about female nature, the more I realised that the traditional approach to dating simply doesn't work.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"spiritual, non-religious" here thinks you are 100% right about it being just two possible end paths of freedom seeking, and not necessarily related.
[–]1Entropy-7 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Hitchens is the most enjoyable read of the "Four Horsemen". The takeaway I got from reading his books is that fundamentally he is anti-ideology. He even split with the ideological left in the wake of 9/11 for various reasons. He is anti-hierarchical, an iconoclast and a whole bunch of other things that would lead him to attack organized religions.
Eschewing organized religions does not leave atheism as the only option. Noted atheist Bertrand Russell said something like "agnosticism is logically unassailable, but everybody has to believe in something".
Modern atheism might free you from the dictates of the Bible, but it assumes that you are a slave to a combination of biology, circumstances, and the quantum flux. Swallowing that isn't particularly liberating.
It's more liberating than the nonsense spewed by religion in an effort to control the masses. But honestly, for me there's more value in truth and knowledge than comforting fiction.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
[–]1Entropy-7 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The fact that religion spews nonsense in an effort to control the masses says nothing about the merits of atheism. The fact that global warming activists spew nonsense in an effort to control the world economy says nothing about whether global warming is or is not happening.
The thing is that you can't know one way or the other what the "truth" is. Whatever you choose to believe, you have to accept the logical implications that flow from it.
[–]Endorsed Contributorredpillbanana 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
TRP is very much about discarding the social narrative in favor of facts, logic, and evidence.
There's no greater social narrative than religion.
Not an atheist, but I'd like to point out that pagan religions tend to be more friendly toward "more natural" ways of our nature. If anything it has helped seal the belief that everything has opposing forces that keep it in balance. Men create, women consume, and many women crave to be subjugated by the all mighty, all seeing, all powerful rock of Alpha- so men continue to provide and represent for them. Also mother nature can be a real bitch, so there's multiple correlations.
[–]slay_it_forward 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Trp doesn't disprove god. It has nothing to do with god. Common sense disproves all traditional gods (greek, jesus, mohammed, etc) but no one has the answers to the big questions like, why? Why does everything evolve? Why do we struggle for survival? What is the underlying force?
TRP is facts and evidence based.. God is faith based, it is like comparing apples and oranges.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I converted from strong Christian to an atheist long before TRP, but TRP likely reinforced my atheism when I started swallowing the pill. The idea that life isn't fair and humans are just stupid animals.
These were just parts of growing up though. I became an atheist at 15, swallowed the pill at 18. Just gone from a coddled child's view to a realistic view of life.
I was an atheist before TRP, but I attribute both becoming an atheist and swallowing the pill to the same critical thinking skill of approaching a topic with as little bias and preconceptions as possible (i.e., thinking outside existing social constructs and brainwashing).
Quite the opposite. It did help me to be okay that I wasn't feeling guilty about certain things any more. Not talking about treating humans bad, either, but religious people have a tendency to make you feel guilty about being just a normal person. I'm over that now.

This is a pretty sad post.
From the educated Christian perspective the red pill is merely a description of the fallen nature of women. Women who do not seek to be virtuous (I mean virtuous according to an aristotelian sense) will end up being hypergamous and disloyal. On the other hand it's not like men don't have evil tendencies too, look at the evil that men can do.
With respect to being anti-feminist (at least in its contemporary incarnation) the red pill elucidates the main temptation of women - which is to seek to become men.
If you really want to engage with the philosophy behind the idea you post you need to do some serious reading on "the problem of evil". I would have thought the existence of Mao and Stalin would be a more serious problem for those who believe in a benevolent God than the existence of women.
[–]cariboo_j 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
From the educated Christian perspective the red pill is merely a description of the fallen nature of women.
From an educated evolutionary perspective the red pill is merely an accurate description of human reproductive behavior. Evolution is a blind, unthinking, mechanical process that does not and cannot take into account the happiness of the individual or human concepts like fairness and justice.
Female spiders eat the males after mating ffs. What makes us think humans are necessarily less cut-throat? What makes us think evolution would program mating behaviors with the long term emotional well being of humans in mind? The only criteria is fucking and surviving long enough to pass on one's genes.
We are brief blips of consciousness in a vast and indifferent universe. Humans have the misfortune of being the only creatures aware of their inevitable death. We feebly try to cling to something greater than ourselves; God, utopian political movements, romantic love. Even passing on our genes is meaningless on the timescale of the universe.
Buddhism brings me some comfort though. We're like embers rising from a fire. Waves on an ocean. A collection of genes and memes that aggregate for a time then dissipate. There's no point to being sad and wishing things were different. Accept the world as it is.
Well done for elucidating a different position. And I like your final paragraph. Wonderful poetic sentences that certainly convince me that you are correct.

No, it's very much in their genes. Women were always like this, they just hid it better and fooled "Christians" like you.
It is like you missed the point.
You have not lived in a period where the masses of people sought to live moral lives. We are living in a period where the vast majority of people don't give a shit about morality, especially sexual morality, and you are surprised that the vast majority of western women are going to behave like sluts?

As was I. And a part of me still is, but I can't define or prove the existence of god, so it's much easier to go with what I can prove. Which is evolution and science.

Even if God was real, he's probably more of an alien god scientist/programmer playing Universe Simulator X than an omnipotent supernatural father figure.

Sometimes I think, "what if we're in Universe Simulator X, and the alien god scientist/programmer programmed an angry old man in the sky named Yahweh or Allah in as a character? Just for shits and giggles."

To each his own I suppose, but I think basing your religious beliefs off of something like TRP is a little one-dimensional.
I was on the precipice of deism and atheism for a while, but I've settled into a firm belief that there must be some sort of intelligent creator, that's so far above us in terms of form or cognition that it's beyond human comprehension.
I came to believe that more and more the deeper I studied chemistry, and understood the fact that it's amazing anything is anything beyond subatomic particles. I know it probably sounds cliché, but the whole world, and the whole universe is so complex at the macro scale, and all of it's systems, and micro scale, and the way it all ties together to form everything that ever is, was, or will be. There's just something that's so beautiful about it.
I can't say I can prove god exists, so I can't tell you that you should believe, or say that believing in it is entirely rational - but I suppose that's why they call it faith. But knowing what I know now about science, I believe a god exists.
[–][deleted] 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
[–]Red_Swords 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's fair to say, and it's one of the reasons I'm not a preachy type, and generally won't discuss my belief in god unless I'm asked about it.
But the same could be said for atheism. The fact of the matter is, no matter what you believe (atheism, deism, organized religion), we just don't know yet. Is there a god? Is there an afterlife? It doesn't matter if you reply yes or no, but if you claim either with 100% certainty than you're either a zealot, or you probably have something to sell.
So I completely recognize the fact that I could be wrong, and nothing beyond what we can prove exists actually exists. But at the end of the day, it's a choice of one unproven theory versus another.
Personally, I find it more difficult to believe that everything is the result chance, but I understand how the concept of god could seem more unlikely to others. Honestly, I don't think either is a poor choice of belief.

I was an atheist before I got into men's rights.
Thinking critically about what society tells you about things like religion might also help you to confront assumptions about fairness between the sexes and sexual strategy, but otherwise they had very little to do with each other in my opinion.
I don't think TRP is incompatible with gods or religions. You could easily say that a god made men and women different, or that social phenomenon like feminism are nonsense and obstacles to men and women existing harmoniously or some shit.
I don't think women are despicable. Men and women are more like each other than anything else in the world. Most complaints that I have about women as a whole I also have about men as a whole.
I think feminism has spoiled a lot of women. They expect an Adonis prince to love every of the 200 plus pounds they weigh. I think men have to wade through a lot more shit now than before to find a mate they're satisfied with. I blame feminism more than I blame women.

"if the supposed god was a benevolent god, he wouldn't have created such a miserable despicable creature as the human female" - sums up the absolute worst part of TRP

[–]bountyhunterdjango0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Spot on dude, see this is why TRP is 50/50 - for building guy's confidence and turning them into less-clingy, more independent males that don't chase like dogs after girls, it works wonders! But the flip side is a bunch of virgin kids turning into women-hating weirdos that are gonna be far too hateful to get any pussy. I honestly think this sub is one of the most interesting places on the Internet!
It's thee most interesting place on the internet because it's basically the only place left where men can talk how men want to talk - no holds barred, no limits.
As for the women-hating virgins, they'll be fine someday once they get a girl and have some success with her. We all know that, as a youth, nothing boosts your confidence higher than scoring with an attractive lady.

TRP is actually making me more religious
After sharing a lot of time with a muslim friend and reading the Quran, I can confirm that Islam is RedPill.
I will eventually create a post talking about it
[–]Thenextprince0 points 10 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Islam is definitely redpill. It talks about how ungrateful women are, how they make up most of hell, how men are superior, etc.

My friend told me a couple of days ago that most people in hell will be women.
However, women in islam have a lot of rights and are respected but no one forgets that they can backstab you easily
He also told me that it's better to marry a religious woman since they love/fear god (which means they would not normally divorce rape you/take your kids/ so on)

TRP has strengthened my faith (but it isn't a Christian one). People these days are getting:
a) unhappier (resulting in rampant consumerism and media addiction)
b) less Christian/more Atheist (worship of Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens)
c) more spiritual (practicing meditation/mindfulness)
I believe in a higher being but I share a personal relationship with him. It is personal in every sense of the word and not one that I talk about with others. I do not discuss my sex life with others, so why would I share something as personal as my faith? If I enjoy doggy-style and you enjoy reverse-cowgirl, I'd be stupid trying to convert you to my way of doing things.
I am at college currently and make a point of not frequenting any religious societies or talking about religion/feminism/politics with my friends. I do not identify myself as belonging to any religion when asked because a) it is unfashionable b) it's an easy way to create division between you and your friends c) people will always attack and view you differently afterwards.
Faith shouldn't be about putting on a show, it's about finding a belief system that actually helps you maximise your potential. ("Law 38: Think as you like but Behave like others")

I've been a staunch atheist since I was old enough to understand the concept of religion, I was always logical and gods and monsters just didn't make any sense to me. I sneered at religion and thought of the religious as delusional fools. TRP has actually given me a solid respect for religion, having discussed and thought on its role in shaping and maintaining a society - taming the baser instincts of homo sapiens sapiens and turning them towards building something greater than we ever could otherwise.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Not at all, but I don't believe in the western package. I have studied and looked at alot of systems and philosophies. The closest one you get to the original teachings are Yogism / Daoism. They are ironically one of the oldest we have too.
The common thread you will find is that we are creatures with potential of becoming something more. If you want to become that next level being you have to create something within yourself. This is usually done through bodily practices. Western equivalent of this would have to be the mystery schools in ancient greece. (Alchemy).
During the peak of eastern philosophies it was considered a massive privilege to be born as a human, because it meant you had the potential to get to the next level.
Keywords:
Wilhelm Reich (too weird for many, but he gets close to the red thread you find elsewhere)
Carl Jung (massive respect for the original teachings left of Daoism, considered them way beyond our current society)
Joseph Campbell (Hero of a Thousand Faces)
William Bodri
Swami Sivananda
Daoism (Neidan Path)
Kriya Yoga
Zen Buddhism
EDIT:
Among PUA's and RP'ers the school of thought is of course the "religion was made to control the masses, we are biological machines". Once you start investigating for yourself you find that the opposite is true. The most hardcore religious figures/philosophies were rebellious as fuck and often hated by the rulers of the time.
[–]Life_Disciple 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
On the contrary, TRP strengthened my Christian faith. It helped me realise that though I can say and think whatever I want about what I believe in, that belief is dead it I don't act on it. Also, as noted by some members here, the Bible (OT and NT) has some RP moments which helped me see the physical reality of one thing, and the ancient knowledge of the other.
[–]HeadingRed 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
TRP involves giving up on myths and falsehoods you have been told. It also requires critical thinking skill and the abandonment of magical thinking.
So if you are not an atheist when you get her it's easy to see why the idea suddenly occurs to you.
I was an atheist long before coming to TRP and I think it helped with the "no it can be true!!!" phase.

As others have said, religion appears to be something created in order to keep people in check and control them, so swallowing the pill and still being "religious" isn't something black and white, however it's not impossible.
It just depends on what you take from TRP as it has no implicit agenda or motive. Just a informative place to discuss sexual strategy.
If you take from TRP that having premarital-sex with random women is want you should do then obviously there is going to be some religious problems. (at least for Christianity)

TL;DR:
I attended church regularly when I was young and that was back in the days when we read the Lord's Prayer in school every day. However, I have never been religious. I read a lot, I think about things, I consider the merits of other perspectives and try to figure out things for myself.
I am largely agnostic but I do have a few rules for evaluating claims such that religions and atheism both fail miserably. The choice between an organized religion and atheism is a false dichotomy.
But first, you have to understand the nature of scientific inquiry. It uses procedural naturalism (sometimes called physicalism or materialism) which assumes, for the purposes of inquiry, that there is a natural explanation for observed phenomena. By its very structure, science must be silent on the question of whether a supernatural entity exists because it already assumes that it does not. Saying that "science proves god doesn't exist" is circular logic: it "proves" what is already assumed.
There is another post here discussing the notion that "sexual strategy is amoral". Well, science is amoral too. It can tell you how to build an atomic bomb, but not whether you should build one, and certainly not whether or when you should use it.
Morality cannot be determined with reference to science. Similarly, science has nothing to say about meaning or purpose.
There is a story about a physicist, a theologian and a young child sitting down to have some tea. The child asks why the water in the kettle boils, and the physicist says:
Etc.
At one point the theologian says "The water is boiling because we want to make some tea."
So morality (right and wrong), meaning and purpose are things that cannot be determined scientifically.
Again, science involves procedural naturalism, which cannot itself prove ontological naturalism, which is the philosophical proposition that nature (the physical, material world) is all that exists. Adopting the latter creates a number of problems.
Foremost is the is-ought problem: you can't figure out how things should be based on any examination of how things are. Secondly is that you can look at the implications of Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem (and I am not a mathematician so I am taking some liberties here) which basically says that a logical system cannot prove itself.
So a logical system that provides answers about morality, purpose and meaning - what should these be - cannot be justified with reference to the physical world (due to the is-ought problem) and cannot be justified with reference to itself (due to incompleteness); there has to be a reference point that stands outside of the both the physical world and logic.
For most people, that means some sort of spiritual world. Different religions approach it differently but the point is that there is something outside of the physical world that governs the rules for what is right and wrong, what is the meaning of life, and what is the purpose of each of us being here.
Rule that out and adopt ontological naturalism, and then you have modern atheism. This creates more problems because any standards come from the people themselves rather than any objective reference point.
About the best you could do is to create an intersubjectivist framework on a consensus basis: a system of ethics, a teleology and a philosophy of meaning. The framework could be internally consistent but could never be proven as true because at least one axiom would have to be either free standing or self referential (ie. circular).
It's a good bet that an infinite number of internally consistent frameworks could be built and there is no way that billions of people would all agree on any one of them, and even if they did it is still an exercise in making shit up.
Atheists, for their part, disagree with 95% of the rest of humanity and then even with each other (fucking Rand and Marx were both atheists). They are making up shit all the time under the conceited delusion that they are somehow more logical or scientific than theists and such. They have base assumptions or hidden axioms or unstated premises in their thinking and world view that are ultimately created out of whole cloth.
By their own terms, their thoughts are just chemical interactions taking place between their ears. Their conclusions are either rooted in biological determinism or a result of random fluctuations at the quantum level. Morality, meaning and purpose, as well as free will itself (including the reasoning process and maybe even reason too) are all illusions.
So it's rather rich when atheists talk about religion in terms of illusions or delusions.
If you are going to swallow the Red Pill, don't wash it down with a chaser of Kool Aid. Understand the limitations of science and logic. Evolution does not inevitably lead to a conclusion of atheism (although it has really put the boots to various religious doctrines over the years). Atheism itself is not more logical than not being an atheist. Your view of morality, meaning and purpose are a choice. If you don't believe in free choice, well that was a choice too. If free choice is an illusion, then none of this really matters because we are either programmed to believe what we believe, or it's all a big Monte Carlo simulation involving random particle decay in your neurons.
[–]bottlecap123 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
If are going to swallow the Red Pill, don't wash it down with a chaser of Kool Aid. Understand the limitations of science and logic.
So if we wake up and the is a cow in our yard. Science says the cow must have travelled a distance and ended in our yard. You say let us not dismiss the idea that it could have fallen from the sky. We are limited, for all we know the cow could have fallen from the sky.
I don't mean to get into an argument but i can't understand your reasoning. Reading the books provided here. While someone can feel there has to be something or someone who created this, it is too complex. It is just a feeling and there is no proof someone created it. The kool aid here is jumping into belief based on how beutifull and unbeliavable everything works. Taking it raw would be accepting the complication, beauty and clear knowledge that we don't know. Life looks like and probably is a program but i don't know if the is a programmer and will probably never know.
[–]1Entropy-7 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
You have to keep an open mind, not let your brain fall out.
The cow is a physical entity and it all but certainly got in your yard by physical means.
When we are talking about non-physical concepts such as (and yes it sounds a bit repetitive) morality, meaning and purpose, then that is a bit different.
Nobody has the remotest idea of why there is a universe at all, or a full grasp of the processes that lead us up to now. Sure, it might be a reach to think there is a "God" that has micromanaged everything but it's also seems pretty unlikely that the process is random, like a tornado going through a junk yard and leaving a fully assembled jumbo jet in its wake (or cows mysteriously falling from the sky. . .randomly).
As well, any spiritual assumptions do not require the existence of spiritual beings that are conscious or anthropomorphic or whatever. Early Buddhism was like this but later forms introduced bodhisattvas and some of those ended up being worshiped as deities or described like kung fu jesus superheroes.

What is "supposed" to be is clearly outside of the physical world. The best science available does not point to anything in particular being "supposed" to happen. There is nothing to suggest that this nucleus is supposed to decay while that one isn't; that this molecule is supposed to move left while that one is supposed to move right.
It's sort of like going back to Aristotle's physics where things do what is in their "nature" (like air rising and rocks falling).
If there is a plan to the universe, the best science we have tells us that the plan is not in the physical universe itself. No plan means unplanned which is essentially random.
[–][deleted] 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
[–]1Entropy-7 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Nuclear decay is random as far as science knows. It's a matter of "faith" that science will figure that all out and mere speculation that there is a grand structure preordained within the physical universe itself, speculation on the level of religious speculation.
"Outside the physical world" = not matter, energy or force manifesting and measurable in the physical universe.
I don't "know" that it exists anymore than anyone "knows" is doesn't. It's an assumption either way that is not supported by evidence.
And what scientists are suggesting that there is a plan for the universe? If you want citations then you have to offer some scientific source that things are "supposed" to happen. There are none that I know of.
[–]1Entropy-7 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
I don't think you understood what I meant by "supposed" to. A rock is not "supposed" to fall because it is in its "nature", like it has a personality that drives it towards falling and that being close to the ground is where it is "supposed" to be because that is the good and proper place for it. Air is not "supposed" to rise (it actually falls just like the rock but for buoyancy and such).
I am using "supposed" in a normative sense. As I pointed out in my first level post, you can't make normative judgments based on empirical observations. Science might figure out all the ins and outs of quantum mechanics, although it is looking doubtful, but it will never be able to say what is the good and proper state of the universe. It's the is-ought problem all over again.
A cop out on your part?
If you "trust" that science can describe a deterministic universe, do you trust that there is no such thing as free will?

I was raised to be a Christian but never believed it, even as a little kid my bullshit detector was going off. Then I was a so-called atheist (once i discovered that was a possibility) for about ten years. After taking a bunch of LSD in college, and reading a number of books (Thich Nhat Hanh is a genius in his own right), I would now call myself an agnostic Buddhist, I guess?
I don't see much of a connection between TRP and religion, because I believe in TRP, (The only thing you can really know is that which you experience). And it is impossible to really experience a so-called "God". Some people say they do, I call bullshit. Our brains are pattern recognition machines, we will make connections all the time between things that have nothing to do with each other. (I know this seemingly contradicts Interbeing, but that's different) But I can see how believing in the evolutionary psychological aspect of TRP can lead one away from Xtian teachings.
TL;DR: Checks out.
[–]sorceryofthetesticle -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Evolution, and basically the premise of TRP itself disproves the existence of god as religion knows it...if god really existed or if the supposed god was a benevolent god, he wouldn't have created such a miserable despicable creature as the human female.
Why project your idea of what a god should do onto the god? That's such a weak argument.
Also, the bible is chock full of the 'miserable, despicable' behaviors of women (and men) alike. It does nothing to pull the wool over your eyes. Think about Adam and Eve: Eve gets tricked into cursing humanity with the knowledge of Good and Evil by the serpent. She disobeys God and drags her compliant man into the mess, and then tries to weasle out of it. If that isn't a clear statement about the nature of women (and men), I don't know what is. There is stuff like this all over the Bible. Look up Samson for another easy example.

You're saying that God may very well not resemble what mass-market religions sell us : the mix of a benelovent saviour (Christianism) and a vengeful assessor (Judaism). I agree with you, but this is NOT atheism : remember, Atheists believe that God does not exist and they have to disprove its very existence. You are not doing that; instead, you're positioning yourself more as a "questioning agnosticist".
Personally, I think it is very probable the entity called "God" exists (the probability of something as complex as the Universe popping out of the blue is close to zero), but that it is very different of the Abrahamic meme. The whole Alpha, Beta... thing can be summed up by "survival of the fittest", just as whole life can be ; God is probably more concerned in the evolution of its creatures than their personal well-being, let alone their "souls". At worst a rat lab scientist, at best a very lazy game designer.

So to explain it you imagine a supernatural being? Where did the creator come from? If the god doesn't need a creator why does the universe? Ect.
[–]Okynrom 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Supernatural ? We cannot know. Maybe it creates its own rules, or it obeys a subset of the natural rules we know of... Creator origin ? Motives ? You're going too far, we do not even know its very essence, these questions are unanswerable.
When I say "God", think of it as a closed box, with "Created the universe" written on it. You cannot open the box, but it was required at some point. The box may even have disappeared in between, with the universe now running entirely on its own ;).
