Here's the thing: you don't actually have to play a musical instrument, you just have to LOOK like you play a musical instrument (and dress and act the part accordingly).

STORY TIME: one of my best friends is a beautiful blonde STRIPPER (as you can imagine, she's basically a walking TRP masterclass). Looks like Barbie, does very well for herself, endlessly entertaining to be around for sure but God help the men (and there are many) that try to lock that one down...

So yeah, I'm meeting her (and a few of her stripper friends) out at dinner one night. I show up, it's like her, a few other girls, a few other guys, and me. Basically everyone is coupled up (it's like 3 couples), I'm sort of the "seventh wheel" at the table but whatever, I take a seat, food and drinks are ordered, and I start chatting up the guy that my stripper friend is draped around (for that night anyway).

Dude is the classic skinny bad boy musician type: covered in tatts and piercings, funky hair, got the whole look down. Looks like he just stepped out of a late 80s music video (with perhaps a touch of classic punk to boot). Seemed like a cool enough dude at first glance (though my stripper friend cycles through so many guys so fast it's hard to tell them apart, sometimes).

So we start chatting, I ask him what he gets up to, and he's like "I'm a musician. A guitarist. LEAD guitarist, actually. Yeah. I'm the LEAD guitar player. In a band. LEAD. I'm the LEADER." No kidding, he says the word "lead" about 4 times in a single breath. I'm like: I get it bro, you're oh-so-fucking alpha, let me bow to your awesome alphaness right here right now (the guy clearly saw me as some kind of potential competition, and I was just as clearly saying right back "Dude, this chick you're with is like my friend, my BRO, she's all yours man, have at it."

But at the same time now I'm a little bit curious, I studied music myself (I was a composer and a producer of electronic music for years as an undergrad, took my degree in it), so of course I'm like "So, well then, who are your big musical influences?" I wasn't fucking with the guy, I was genuinely curious, and just thought it was the easiest way to keep the conversation going, to get the guy to talk about himself.

He says "What do you mean?" I say "You know, you're a guitar player, who was the guy that got you into music? Like who was your big inspiration starting out?" He just looked at me blankly. I pushed on (stating the question very slowly, as if talking to a child): "Who... Is... Your... FAVORITE... GUITAR PLAYER...??" He just continued to stare.

And then it dawned on all of us at the table (at the exact same time):

The guy actually didn't have one (a musical influence), because he actually wasn't a guitar player. That was just something he told strippers, so he could fuck them. (And of course he got all the requisite tatts, piercings, and leather odds and ends to look the part.)

So now the silence is stretching out, and stretching out, and getting very very awkward, but I'm just sitting there laughing, realizing: wow, this guy's been running this schtick for years, and all this time, seriously, all this fucking time, at no point has even one of the (I'm sure many, MANY) strippers (and other random girls) he's fucked, not a ONE has every actually asked him about his music. HE LOOKS THE PART, THEY CAN INTRODUCE HIM TO THEIR GIRLFRIENDS AND SAY "I'M DATING A MUSICIAN", THAT'S ENOUGH. He said he's the lead guitar player, they can pass that info along, that's all that matters. So what if it's not true? It's not a woman's job to verify. He said it, so it's true. They now have plausible deniability. All you need.

So finally to kill the silence I'm like "Dude, JUST SAY THE NAME OF A GUITAR PLAYER. Anyone." Another awkward pause. And then I'm like fuck it, after choking down a laugh I bailed the guy out with "You know I always really liked Prince, myself, as a guitar player..." (knowing one of the girls would jump on this), and sure enough one of the other strippers piped up with "I LOVE PRINCE!!" and the conversation got diverted (with the onus having then been taken off the other guy). But yeah, that was when I realized: holy shit, it really isn't about what you do at all, is it (when it comes to picking up girls), it's just about what you TELL the girls you do, and whether or not you look convincingly like the character you're currently pretending to be.

Rollo has a great post on this, I think it's called "GET A LOOK", in it he references an Adam Corolla quote, where Adam says: "Women are like Casting Directors, casting characters in the movie of their own life." So you have to PICK A LOOK and run with it, play that character archetype all the way. You don't actually have to develop the requisite skillset that comes with BEING that character (much like an actor playing a musician doesn't actually have to learn music, they just have to learn how to fake it).

Remember: for women, APPEARANCE AND REALITY ARE THE SAME THING. If you look like a musician you ARE a musician. And, hilariously enough, even if you ARE a (real) musician, if you don't dress the part, then as far as girls are concerned you aren't a musician (despite the fact that you might have spent your life playing an instrument, studying music etc). For girls it's all about the outward appearance, not the internal reality.

I was saying this in another thread too. Being half decent at an instrument, if that's a time investment you want to take works. Couple that with working out regularly and it's a serious winning combo.

I'd like to think I'm half decent at the drums (play more metal stuff usually) cause I go in to every gig with the full intention to of course play my heart out, but to admittedly outshine the other players there with skill and showmanship. Go at it with that innermost feeling that you're a badass and it'll really show.

The last gig I played I had a few girls opening me (some were taller too, so fuck worrying about height) asking me to dance and people stopping me to just to say how much fun they had watching, which was hella flattering anyway. The trick I found is once you finish your set, immediately go start chatting up people and walking around. You're not much at someone else's party, but when it's your party, you become the guy to talk to.

Acquaintances sure, hot people you know - even better. But women cannot be friends with men. This is not some neck-beard talking. They want the male comradery with female prerogatives. They are flaky, unreliable and make up excuse faster than a liberal gets his EBTs, and this is the group of women-friends who are not actively squeezing you out of your resources.

I've played guitar for five years and I'm pretty fucking good at it. I'm gonna keep doing it forever because I love it. It has barely gotten me laid at all. A few times yes but not enough. You have to be atleast somewhat of a performer. You can't just be some dude who practices scales in your room. They have to see it. I lift and I'm 6'3 and athletic as fuck. I've banged chicks but I have a serious tool that I'm not using more and it really bothers me. I Have no way to get into a band or anything like that. I don't even know another musician. Im gonna write my own shitty songs and play those bitches on the street. I do have stage fright like a motherfucker and this has bothered me for a very long time that I'm not using my guitar playing and music skill to bang sluts.

As a guitarist (used to play lead/vocals in a few bands). Tell girls you want to show them your guitar (plausible deniability) once you get them back to your place don't actually start playing for them. Show it to them and start making out.

Years ago I would play girls entire songs and never made a move. Escalate and make a move, don't actually sit down and play on and on. If they insist, things are going well and you're just testing them to see if their ready to get down, play with them next to you, to the right if you're right handed, so you can lean on them, touch them, etc.

My older brother plays the battery, charango, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, etc. Most importantly he plays the electric guitar really good, and he used to play at bars and clubs, he used to get women on a constant basis, i have seen some photos, some of those girls where 5 maybe 6, but he also used to get some 9.

Part of it has to do with the fact, that women like hard working, dedicated men, men have a passion, and have huge goals in life, and if you think about it, learning to be pretty good at any musical instrument takes a lot of time, practice and effort.

First, I love your story and have always been a fan of the "Wild World of Animals" and the documentaries of their behavior.

I too love women and love observing them, even in their worst stupidity and ugliest of mood changes/prerogatives/women's whatever excuse to do whatever they feel like doing right then.

Playing music/singing will buy you a few pounds too skinny and too fat, but only a few. it is the "I don't care about your face" card. it is also a "don't shower if you don't want to" card. it is kind of gross how just mud caked and bacteria covered some musicians can be and still have women gravitating towards them like a caught meteor. it is also the "hey, if you want to dress like a douche .. go ahead" card.

but it is not the free lay card. the lead singer from the Blues traveler was getting the nightly treatment even when he was on tv every hour on the hour. but once again, that is all about the bod. As I said above, there are too many fit enough, but ugly as hell musicians to prove the face doesn't matter. Gene Simmons comes to mind immediately.

so I wonder, how many "points" do you think being a musician is worth if it negates the face, negates hygiene, and negates just really bad clothing choices. I know it is probally more dynamic than this and in need of a breakdown.

A buddy of mine is a guitarist. Super hipster area. Hes fine to party with and shoot the shit with, but he lives in a fantasy world. He walks around dressed up like Russel Brand, and Ive almost been arrested and killed because of him. Great stories, but hes a hassle to be around. For some reason women find him attractive, but he has no game so he flounders every time.

Asking to of general curiosity.

I go to music school. The past 4 years of my life have been surrounding by almost 100% musicians, with random breaks 2 to 3 week breaks in between.

Almost 100% of my friends are musicians and study various fields of music, be it composition / performance / business.

Every single one of them is Really or Extraordinaly good at their craft.

It may be just because almost 95% of my interactions daily are with other musicians... but I've never viewed musicians as some type of magnet. The atmosphere completely changes when at home from college; Suddenly being a musician is Super cool.

Just seems... rather normal to me. Even observing my female friends at concerts with objectively attractive musicians, the response is moreorless "Oh cool. More talented musicians! Well this is inspiring and cool. Time to work more on my craft." as opposed to wanting to immediately fuck them. The amount of girl friends I've gone to concerts with is pretty high. Unless they just don't talk about shit like that around me. It may just be the people I surround myself with though.

TL;DR -

95% of my friends and interactions are with musicians so my reality and perception to all of this is overwhelmingly biased.

Other than being talented... can't really see how instrumental or vocal ability gives one a +1. Well... I can see how it does... just doesn't seem all that special to me, probably because me and all my friends are all musicians.

This. I tried to explain this to someone once, but they weren't having it. I know this one girl who is somewhat attractive, albeit a complete bitch, and a pisshead to boot. Rosie, I'll call her, always used to fuck guys who were either fat or funny-looking, though. At first, I was confused by this, until I released that she loved the ego-boost. These fat/ugly guys weren't used to female attention, so they'd actually feel grateful that a woman who "outranks" them would show them attention, and as a result, they'd do anything she asked. I actually took it as a compliment that she never tried it with me. This was a few years ago. Now, I'm told Rosie's with a guy who comes from a rich family. This guy lives in one of his parents' spare houses and I'm guessing she lives there completely rent-free with all her other expenses paid for, too. Great work if you can get it.
