Good morning all, I just wanted to share the story of what got me into MGTOW.

For starters I'm now 25 years old, I was dating a girl for 6 years during and after high school. She got 90% of my time, even when I knew there was other things I wanted to do and could/should have told her no. Any time I finally did get to do something like hang out with friends or magically get to take a trip out of town (fuck, even with my own family) it made me feel guilty. I felt trapped almost, the sex was the only thing keeping me interested or around but I didn't know that at the time, I thought it was her. If I went to bed or woke up and didn't text or call her immediately she made it seem as if life was over and questioned why and what was I doing instead of calling her? Mind you this was on family outings, fishing trips, beach vacations, you know, places you don't exactly rush to look at your phone. I got to the point where I felt like she conditioned me to do these things. If I didn't have something planned by the time I got off on Friday she questioned what we were doing that night, almost as if it's guaranteed that I would be hanging out with her.

I let this happen, it was me who didn't put my foot down. I was the weaker person of the relationship, she didn't only wear the pants but she owned the factory producing them. Once we broke up, it tore me inside for about a day but after that...I felt free. I discovered this subreddit about 5 months ago and MGTOW is what stood out to me the most. It sounded like a vacation from the hell I was once trapped in. It's by far been the most beneficial skill if you will, that I've adopted from this sub other than the obvious healthier eating/exercise.

I catch a lot of flack from my friends, and quite a bit of women who tell me it's not natural to not want to get married or not date anyone. Not only that, but I can almost sense a bit of jealousy when I tell them about all the things I've been doing. I buy things for myself, I enjoy vacations by myself and I've overall learned that yes, I can be happy with just myself. If I could preach anything here, it's to learn to enjoy and be happy alone. I'm not telling you to stop dating, don't get married, but before you do that, learn to be self sufficient alone. It's going to be a long journey going forward from here, but for the time being this is what just makes the most sense to me.

Don't let anyone tell you that this is weird, unnatural, antisocial, or just plain stupid. I've deflected everything that my friends and acquaintances tell me about why I shouldn't be doing what I am, but I can see it in their face and hear it in their sarcasm. They wish they could do what I did. Try it out for a few months, a year, however long you want. It's your life and your time at the end of the day. I wanted to say thank you for having a place like this, I would still be completely lost if I never discovered TRP.
