Just yesterday I passed my checkride and became an instrument rated pilot. It’s generally considered the most difficult. I passed with flying colors, no less.

I started work on that rating in 2012 but college, work, and (most importantly and with most effect by far,) my slide down that very slope you speak of put an end to that.

After a year at a lucrative but soul-sucking job I realized I was probably not gonna make 40 if I didn’t change something.

I left it, and in the skies, my home all along, is where I forge that better man. I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long, long time. Since I became a pilot, really.

I generally just drink black coffee for breakfast and maybe have eggs, some meat, and vegetables.

The weight is sliding off little by little, and I could happily keep this routine up for the rest of my life. I should start lifting to really top it all off.

These posts are the best, tbh. Women can only fill one void and it’s not nearly as big a void as will be left if you focus only on women. Focus on you.

TLDR: Rise from your ashes. Make the effort. Have hope that the difficult-to-see, incremental changes and improvements will accumulate. One day you won't recognize your old self anymore. There are still challenges, but to you it will just be the normal routine. You have changed. You're the man you want to be.

Really well written. However, I'd interpret the end differently:

The coward is alive. Even though he may be starved until bare bone and covered in thick chains. He is watching you and feeding on leftovers, unfullfilled conquests. And he constantly begs you to stay just a bit longer. He isn't trying to escape by this point. After all, he didn't change much - sitting around, doing nothing, powerless. You may ask "What could it hurt to listen to him a bit longer?". Until you realize: The prisoner always talks about being free, happy and having no responsibilites, as he sits there alone. The difference between you? You are standing straight as you saw past the first hill. The key was never the issue.

People can be pretty fucking gay on this sub. but this isn't gay, or shocking or offensive. Maybe it would be to those who want very much for you to keep yourself (yes yourself, if anyone else was holding you down they stopped a long long time ago, confident that you were irrevocably vanquished and locking your own leg irons, forever,) in a prison loop. I can see why certain types of people would wish to "quarantine" posts like this, because let's face it: if every born leader beaten down by the slow drip of mediocrity and disappointment, were to suddenly all start moving forward with purpose again, the smug ratfucks of the world would be revealed as useless and false as everyone already knows they are, if only subconsciously.

The description of the first part is very similar to a dopamine deficiency, that could be the cause of that way of living or the result of living like that for a long time.It shouldn't be views as a crutch but raising dopamine can help one get away from that vicious circle.
