I completely agree with your post. I keep seeing postings that espouse arguments that are not found in concrete TRP literature yet are instantly upvoted because they fit the angry and loud narrative. I can't help but laugh when I see even endorsed contributors post ramblings without coherent structure and a core thesis yet are swallowed like TRP truth by members.
If anyone really wants to understand TRP I suggest looking at the suggested readings u/AsianAway posted two years ago and then formulate your own narrative. Taking whatever is said on the main sub at face value can lead you astray unless you grasp the core concepts.

You've got young guys on here who genuinely hate women.
It's understandable and temporary but posting when you're overly emotional is a bad move because as you said people are taking at face value.
It's important that people understand that you have to actually injest TRP; it takes time to understand properly and for it to set in as your default system.
The general rule should be to STOP and THINK, "will this post add to what TRP already provides?" if the answer's no, don't post
TLDR; this is not a place for 'dear diary today a girl pissed me off and now I'm mad' posts.

Since I only stumbled across TRP about two months ago, I haven't yet read all of the recommended literature. Perhaps my observations are biased in that they're based on more recent trends in the quality and subject matter of the discussions. I also understand that this sub has grown dramatically over the past few years, so that probably has something to do with it.

I went through this phase when I was new too. I remember thinking "wait, is this a place to whine about feminists, or a self improvement space?" I've been coming here for years, and I can tell you TRP is the number one place I've found for male self development resources and helpful feedback.
Over time you learn to differentiate what is helpful to your mission (book recommendations, meditation tips, shit test responses, how to hold frame like a calm rational adult) from what is not (anything connected to reddit feminism, politics, sports, fiction)
Yes, this place has its share of shitposts like any other sub, but I feel it is enough of a net positive to keep coming back.

[–]1Entropy-712 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
TRP doesn't do nuance well. Actually: people don't do nuance well and for the masses it is more instructive to give a general rule to follow rather than trying to explain all the complexities of the situation to people who won't get it. Conservatives and liberals get into this all the time. Cons favour clear rules to keep you out of trouble like no sex before marriage. Liberals have an unfounded faith in stupid people to make smart decisions and so they want condoms in high school washrooms and kids (half of whom have double-digit IQs) to figure things out for themselves.
Of course, TRP "truths" are not iron clad but if they explain more than 30%, they beat the vast majority of peer-reviewed sociological studies; and if they explain more than 50%, then they are your best bet. I tend to think it is more like 70% but that is one man's opinion with a mere 30 years experience.
Maybe we need a new flair for anger phasers. I am tired of reading bloopers who cite these guys as being the main stream of thought here.
Keep in mind that outsiders don't understand us no matter how we could reinvent ourselves or explain ourselves in any rational and logical manner.
[–]Pastelitomaracucho21 points22 points23 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Yep. 90% of this place is angry venting, double standards and confirmation bias.
Which is fine. Trp is pure Sexual strategy but this sub is also an open forum where people can come and say what they want. This means that the general quality of the posts is not that high, but we are all open to criticism and we can self regulate the quality of the sub to some extent.
[–]redpill_disciple 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I wish that was the case but any deviation from the hive mind will quickly be down voted. Best advice I can say is educate yourself on the principles of TRP and give honest and helpful advice to those that look for it. I typically tend to stay away from all the negative posts because they're useless. Unless of course I want a good laugh
[–]BluestBlackBalls0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Why is it that posters, throughout Reddit, have this fear(?) of being downvoted?
[–]disposable_pants0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wish that was the case but any deviation from the hive mind will quickly be down voted.
Not really; look at this post and many of the comments responding to it. What's downvoted is:
You can disagree all you want as long as you aren't doing one of those things and you present your ideas in a reasonable light.
Compare it to a sports subreddit. You can disagree about a call, how talented a player/coach/GM is, or whether X rule is good for the game, but you can't A) demonstrate that you have no understanding of the game or B) not-so-subtly tell other posters that they suck and the game they're talking about sucks.
[–]analyticaltoafault1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
While I agree that TRP may be primarily a sexual strategy, it can be so much more in leading a man to finding productive and good virtues in life that philosophers have shared for thousands of years.
[–]perfidiousfish2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Double standards is incorrect. TRP applies different standards to men and women because men and women are different.
[–]Pastelitomaracucho1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The core of TRP does not care about standards. But the majority of posters do try to use them.
Let us be fucking real here. This is a place that deals with sexual strategy, but we bash women for having their own sexual strategy?
Sexual strategy is amoral (apparently), but not when Katy the whore cheats on his balding chubby husband with the gardener.
[–]perfidiousfish2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
We don't bash women at all once we come out of the anger phase, we simply acknowledge that men and women have opposing strategies.
In the last part of your post, you conflate the amorality of sexual strategy with the immorality of breaking a pact.
I'm not really sure what point you're trying to get across.
[–]Pastelitomaracucho1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Breaking pacts, deceiving and lying are all part of the sexual strategy, for each sex. So is it amoral or is it not?
But again, that was just an example of the contradictions you often see here.
Women bashing is seen "during the anger phase" does not free us from freely applying double standards, contradicting ourselves or falling victims of confirmation bias.
[–]perfidiousfish0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They aren't though, they're just immoral ways to pursue the strategy.
A woman cultivating a situation where she has a provider and access to alpha males can be done in both moral and immoral ways. The strategy is agnostic, the implementation isn't.
You keep talking about double standards, but still haven't provided examples of any. At the core of TRP there aren't any, but there are plenty of different standards, which highlight the differences between male and female sexual strategy.
[–]Frenetic_Zetetic8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is unfortunate because it suppresses the level of subtlety that is necessary to capture the essence of real world situations.

Well noted. I've sent some friends over to TRP that didnt even knew reddit existed, yet i waited until they showed some interest in the matter by themselves before talking aboit TRP and then pointing them here. And i always highlighted the fact that they should take their own conclusions and use TRP info tailored to suit their personas.
[–]disposable_pants6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A lot of people resort to flaky reasoning grounded in evolutionary psychological concepts that they clearly don't understand.
Completely agree. And there's really no reason to use shaky evo psych reasoning when just about any idea on TRP can be reasonably supported by behavioral economics (i.e. social incentives drive how men and women act).
The culture of TRP is quite "binary", wherein ideas are either embraced 100% as the golden truth, or viciously denigrated and stamped as "Blue Pill".
Eh, I see a solid number of nuanced posts/comments as it is. The binary thinking that does exist here is mostly an inevitable mirroring of the absolutist language of safety -- always do X, never do Y, and you'll go home with all of your fingers. If you want to keep people from accidentally shooting somebody you don't go into a bunch of possible scenarios where pointing the muzzle at someone might or might not be acceptable; you tell them that all guns are loaded and they should never point the muzzle at something they aren't willing to destroy. Similarly, if you want to keep men from winding up financially, emotionally, or legally damaged you offer equally binary advice.
Their frustrated venting falls upon the sympathetic ears of others whom have equally terrible experiences. This type of emotional environment clouds good judgement.
I a largely agree, but venting does have at least some value. First, there aren't that many places where guys can get stuff like that off their shoulders, and doing so is often cathartic. Second, it reminds guys who might become complacent that they need to keep sharp. It should be reduced, but not eliminated.
Quality post. Self-reflection is positive.
[–]Eric21610 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think you're wrong, but the "binary" nature of TRP is quite helpful in providing a simple framework for a lot of men that didn't have red pill fathers and didn't study evolutionary biology at university. Hell, a member of my family was a psychologist for 30 years, and he was the furthest thing from red pill.
Similarly, I've heard people, especially psychologists, criticize Myers Briggs as being overly simplistic (slippery slope where confirmation bias takes over). And yet, I've been subjected to Myers Briggs testing several times (military, gov't contractor, corporate executive) and I find it very helpful for understanding myself and teammates/colleagues. I don't believe it contains all the answers, but it is quite helpful.
Fact is, guys that understand a few simple concepts like hypergamy, AWALT, AA, IDGAF, etc., are way ahead of their peers in the world. We live in a world where political correctness prevents even elite educators from seeing these "truths" about interactions between men and women.
Sometimes the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle just works.
[–]darkstout9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
People want quick fixes. They don't want to spend years reading and studying evolutionary psychology. They want ANSWERS... like go lift, stop being a beta bitch, spin plates, AWALT, make money, etc. If this is "binary" then so be it. And yes, we are emotional, we've lived with a false conscious, spoon fed lies from everyone on what women want and how to be a man. I'd rather see passion than cold academic logic that doesn't inspire.
[–]BareFistEmpiricist[S] 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I would like to make a distinction. TRP offers a lot of advice about how men should strategize in order to get what they want in life, whether that's spinning plates, getting rich, jacked, or whatever. For this type of content, quick and dirty tips that are easy to follow work fine. With respect to the "understanding the truth" aspect of TRP, people should be more discerning about what they accept and why.
[–]darkstout0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Can you give specific examples of the concepts you are talking about that aren't covered in the sidebar?
[–]BareFistEmpiricist[S] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
"Treating a woman like they are the most responsible teenager in the house" and "being a closed book" are both examples of solid TRP advice on how to govern yourself around women and the underlying reason why they work isn't of the utmost importance.
Hamsterization is a frequently discussed phenomenon in this thread, often in overly simplistic terms. Yes, women do rationalize their shitty behavior in an attempt to minimize cognitive dissonance, but often I find that people lean on hamsterization as a one-size-fits-all explanation, which can sometimes lead to misdiagnosing the situation in question.
[–]redpill_disciple 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Passion quickly dissipates without reason. Go lift, stop being a beta bitch, spin plates, AWALT, make money all seem like passionable advice but they're useless at face value without explaining the why of it all. This is why understanding the core TRP principles is important.

I had a discussion relating to this subject a couple days ago in a different sub. I'll piece it together here.
MetaCanada quick poll- Your thoughts on the MRM/TRP/MGTOW?
...TRP advocates a degenerate lifestyle but their philosophy about attaining that lifestyle is fundamentally sound.
How/why is TRP a degenerate movement?
I prefer to ground my ethics more rigorously in game theory using the concept of a stable equilibrium or evolutionarily stable state but lets look at it from a deontological perspective a la Kant's categorical imperative (Act only according to that maxim whereby you can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law). What would happen to western civilization if every man adopted the values and methodology espoused by TRP? In short order you would have plummeting birth rates, a female population totally unable to pair bond, and general societal collapse. It's a philosophy that can only exist by exploiting a generally healthy society. It's parasitic as, practiced as preached, it produces no future citizens while reducing the capacity of women (divorce rates rise in proportion to a woman's n-count prior to marriage) to live in stable marriages, the optimal social configuration for creating and rearing children. That's the main reason I call the philosophy "degenerate"; it is anti-civilization. The other reason is the nihilistic undertone.
The nihilism of the movement is on display with the motto of "enjoy the decline". It has a defeatist colour to it in that they justify their hedonism with the assumption that civilization is doomed anyway so you may as well have fun while you can. The possibility that, were millenial men to begin taking responsibility for Western civilization, the decline could be averted is dismissed in favour of a lifestyle that actively hastens social decline.
I see, but you assume that if every man adopted the values of TRP it would just continue in perpetuity, but I don't think that's accurate. If all men adopted TRP, in reality society would change over time and there would eventually be an adjustment. TRP is a response to modern women/feminism. If every man adopted TRP lifestyles, then over time women would change the way they behave. Add that with simple changes in the legal system so that men are actually treated equitably, then you'd see something closer to 1950s (or earlier) style of mating and pairing which would then make men more interested in marriage again. There would no longer be a need for TRP. TRP is just a reaction. The slogan you mention "enjoy the decline" is referencing the decline of Western Civilization due modern 'feminism'. If every man adopted TRP like you said, then the decline would cease because the fundamental flaw of feminism is that it only works if men choose to go along with it. In the state of nature, feminism cannot exist.

TRP doesn't advocate for all men to adopt the philosophy as a general strike to effect social change. The thought experiment about TRP as a categorical imperative is to illustrate that the lifestyle is unsustainable on the macro scale and therefore unethical on the micro scale. Consider an analogy:
Six nations border a sea with a population of fish. If all six nations enforce a sustainable fish harvest, the resource is a renewable one. If one nations assumes that everyone else is going to overfish the resource, then it follows that they should adopt a policy of overfishing. Seeing that the social contract is broken, the other five nationa follow suit. The end result Is that the shared resource is destroyed for everyone and it only made sense in the first place if one group accepted the nihilistic premise that decline in fish stocks was inevitable and therefore proper husbandry of the resource was pointless.
This is the TRP mindset. Decline is inevitable, therefore we have no responsibility to make things better so we might as well make things worse because it's fun. Even if one accepts the nihilistic inevitability of decline, it doesn't follow that this translates to a license to become part of the problem. Doing so is anti-civilizational; which to me is synonymous with degeneracy. You don't have to be part of the solution, but at a bare minimum: do no harm.
That's as far as the discussion went. I stand by my arguments and assertions.
[–]guyinokc1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You know son, you used a lot of fancified thinking and writing there. But, I can't rightly reckon that I agree that TRP is nihilist. I see it as a way to understand women and men. A way to give them what they want, thereby making a better relationship and subsequently a more stable life for myself and society.

What a blooper troll. You are using communist tactics. Take the argument and reverse it. You are either brilliant or stupid.
Feminism and liberalism is responsible for each and every negative consequence to society that you enumerated, yet you've managed to try and flip the argument such that TRP is responsible for these items. What you posit is not even statistically possible given this sub has existed for 5 years and doesn't even have 200k reach.
TRP is an immunity response to the spreading cancer of society-destroying liberalism and feminism.

Keep reading. My interlocutor made the same misunderstanding and I explained the point in my reply.
[–]Hillarysdilddo_20162 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Dude, every thing you wrote is wrong. Posting a follow up doesn't make it right.
Feminism is a parasitic movement. You don't see feminism practiced by Amazonian tribes because there is insufficient excess to sustain it. Only in civilized societies wit excess time and production does feminism become viable by parasitizing labor of others. It's literally a cancer that eats its host.
Thus every thing you've attributed to TRP is fundamentally incorrect. TRP is the response. It did not cause degeneracy--social decline--it arose from it.
[–]Elodrian0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's not a complicated analysis: does a culture of promoting perpetual bachelorhood, childlessness, and upping women's n-counts make society better, or worse? I never argued that Feminism was a sustainable position. You wish to frame TRP as a reaction? You're very likely right. But it's a reaction that works hand in glove with feminism to exacerbate the decline, not to arrest it.
You've probably tuned a feedback control system at some point, right? The action a control system makes in response to a detected error should be to adjust the input to bring the system back to its set point. A control system that reacts to an error by amplifying the error is a shitty control system. This is what I see as the problem with TRP. We have identified an error in society and our reaction is to make the error worse by exploiting the situation for personal gain.
[–]JackGetsIt2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
The redpill only dissuades men from marriage because of the current condition of female entitlement combined with terrible divorce laws. Even then I wouldn't say RP is 100% against LTR's or private marriages; there's just a tone that they are a trap in the 'current' climate.
I think you've created a bit of a straw man. It's not one body of writing with one clear message. It's a collection of tools that men are welcome to take or leave.
There are also a portion of TRP users that advocate for more active MRA approach that's less nihilist. Men didn't create the situation we are seeing today a combination of factors created it. Men are just forced to live in it and survive it.
My personal take on the future is that things are going to need to get much worse before people actually do anything about the core broken relationship between the genders.
I think you need to post your thesis to Purplepill debate and you also need to come up with solutions as well to the redpill narrative if your going to get a healthy debate going.

You wish to frame TRP as a reaction? You're very likely right.
It is not framing. It is FACT. This is why I responded harshly, because to try and change first premises is deceitful.
TRP has existed for ~5 years, how could it be responsible for 60+ years of societal decay???
Maybe TRP is not "corrective" as a feedback loop, but is that really the point? MRAs attempt to be corrective and they are basically yelling at brick walls. TRP simply teaches men how things are. It is up to you if you choose to continue the decline or attempt to fix the problem. From that standpoint TRP is agnostic.

This is a great, thoughtful, well grounded post, and it is much needed. It's 100% accurate.
However, the best way to sway minds is through emotion, and the best way to stir emotion is through the things you described.

The problem with this place is that there are a lot of users that take every post, at first glance, as gospel. They just equate it being posted to TRP with being 100% fact, when in reality the post might be completely retarded.
I might make a post about not reading TRP. I think there's a point where all the things posted here is just stuff you've read before, or stupid shit, and it's best not to constantly visit unless YOU have some wisdom to impart.
I should know, I used to visit a couple times a day and just read any jackass post like it was the bible. But I realized some time ago that isn't too smart of me. It's really easy to unzip your pants and start waving your cock because things don't conform to what you learned at your libcuck university. Hurr durr this argument doesn't conform to the logical format that I was taught in my anthropology class. I need to see some sources!
Here is something to consider. The Red Pill is written predominantly by and for young men. Its not a research paper and it's not going to be graded by your African Transgender Studies Professor. The purpose of Red Pill is to be Interesting and spark discussion. However it is up to you to do your own research and decide for yourself what ideas you choose to accept.
People enjoy emotive rhetorical pieces much more than logical dissertations. Which is why the former is superior to the latter for convaying information. However if you personally don't feel that way no one is stopping you from submitting logical snorepieces.
[–]Endorsed ContributorJamesSkepp2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
However it is up to you to do your own research and decide for yourself what ideas you choose to accept.
IOW the author can post anything he wants (even lies) as long as it is within the posting rules b/c it's not the author's job to be accountable for what he posts (the worst that can happen is NOT-getting upvoted, becaue TRP has negative scores turned off), he only has to be accountable for the rules that might get his post removed (as long as the post gets approved, the worst that can happen is not getting upvotes).
You basically said that one can say anything without being accountable, b/c it's the reader's job to do his research and find out what the real truth is. Keep that in mind next time you complain about mainstream media, femnists or liberals skewing the data, lying or manipulating the public opinion.
This is why I have decided to finish the last of my "snorepieces" that are in the works and switch to using a simple framework (vaguely along the lines of your quote above) of how to write a post a day. After all, it's better to be first than to be right.

You would do well not to underestimate GLO. Intellectually he is something of a dark horse in my humble opinion.
Style. This is the key around TRP. There are a variety of styles around the various endorsed guys on TRP and each style will appeal individually to different people. GLO has a particularly flamboyant style that appeals very strongly to traditionally masculine male bonding. It's not remotely surprising that he is as popular here as he is. That said, there are people who are here to learn that simply aren't drawn to that style. For those people you've got the... shall we say, more dry, style of someone like illimitableman who is more like a lecturer in class. You've got guys who behave more like drill sergeants, others like mattyanon are a bit like a good mate you've gone to for advice. I'd compare Copperfox3c to be a bit like a laid back tutor in university.
These different styles suit different styles of learning. It isn't a weakness of TRP, it is a strength.
As for your post, your criticisms of the sub basically just apply to those who haven't fully grasped the pill. It's similar to why the Blue Pill sub hates us so much... the only examples they can really find lack nuance or they've strawmanned something because they are literally incapable of comprehending it. Ignore the noise and go for the signal. From the collection of endorsed members, just see which class you want to attend. This isn't like school. It's university and you get to choose your professors, so just pick the ones you'll learn most from.

An Adhomim attack would be me insinuating that your mother is a Tijuana street hooker and that you are her pimp. I have not attacked you personally.
What I did say was that your logical strategy is a poor fit for this community and that a rhetorical strategy is a better fit. If you have any doubts as to the veracity of this claim take a stroll through Rollo's or IllimitableMans submitted history and see for yourself how little upvotes pure logic gets.
As for my bold brash style, it is my personal belief that the only ones getting offended are limp wristed sensitive betas.

logical strategy is a poor fit for this community and that a rhetorical strategy is a better
That has to depend upon what is the goal of this community. Personally I see it as a hub of information. That is what the red pill is: knowledge.
The "rhetorical strategy" mostly only seem to accomplice one thing: to fill the community with angry omegas, who sit on the internet trowing acronyms around, which they don't really understand, because they haven't read Rollo or IllimitableMan, or any other valuable source of information. Thus we get a lot of impotent anger flowing around making newcomers stupider than they were before. The shit some people will post is so fucking retarded. I've seen heavily up voted threads about how women who ride the cock carousel are therefore alpha widows, and every married man is a cuck who isn't really the father to his own children because AWALT...
The rhetorical strategy succeeds in pulling a lot of new guys in but at the detriment of the quality of the sub. It seems that the only messeage, that has gotten true undistorted is: "lift".

Why are you so condescending to someone giving you a pretty valid counter-point?
An ad hominem fallacy is an argument that seeks to discard an argument by attacking the person. GLO did not tell you "your argument is moot because of this or that aspect of your person". He attacked your argument (in his first post at least). If anything, it is your comment making fun of his username that is actually a good example of ad hominem fallacy, because you implied his argument is unvalid because his username is ridiculous.
What GLO told you is, in his own politically incorrect style (depends on tastes), what a lot of other people just told you:
Even if we pride ourselves to be rational, humans typically respond more to emotions than logic, so that a more accurate red pill theory would fly over the head of everyone if we insisted at keeping it academic.
The result of this human nature about the communication of information is that we're facing a trade-off. Do we want to insist keeping red pill accurate, open and rational with the price to pay being that the information would be then limited to a very underground club that includes just a select few with the intellect to understand, the drive to learn and a passion for logic? OR do we allow ourselves to let the red pill be open to any anger, partisanship, exaggerations and approximations, so that at least we reach a larger number of men who needs it so desperately? You're in one camp, GLO and the red pill mods are on the other. As a perfectionist scientist who would have stayed beta if it were not for the sheer size of this sub that allowed my stumbling on it, I am balanced.
[–]BareFistEmpiricist[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
GLO did insult me ("limp wristed sensitive betas") and he also didn't attack the argument that I was made in my post. He just said it's boring("snorepeice") and made it seem like my post was invalid because it's an argument characteristic of classes of people ("your African Transgender Studies Professor") and institutions ("your libcuck university") that are frequently discredited on TRP. So yes, it's an example of ad hominem. The only way GLO criticized my point directly was by saying that other authors (Rollo's or IllimitableMans) haven't been successful using a logical strategy and that posts like that don't get many up-votes, which is frankly a weak counterargument.
You know what, this post has been interesting to watch unfold into a lengthy conversation, but I honestly didn't put any effort into it, and it's based on ideas that I didn't spend much time thinking through. I just wanted to see what other people would say. I don't really give a fuck, I read TRP occasionally to stay balanced, its not some super important defining aspect of my identity.

Insulting is GLO's style. It grows on you. But even if he insulted you and linked your argument to that of a group of people he despised, he still made an interesting counter-point that you only now finally acknowledge ("The only way GLO criticized my point directly was by saying that other authors (Rollo's or IllimitableMans) haven't been successful using a logical strategy and that posts like that don't get many up-votes.").
I'm not defending him as much as telling you it was too bad that because of GLO's insulting tone, you did not even consider his point and discuss it. And quite frankly, I see that based on your answer here ("which is frankly a weak counterargument" and your last paragraph), I understand that you were only willing to propose a thesis but not defend it against counter-arguments. Fair enough, you don't have to and there's a good debate going on.

The hivemind here is pretty ridiculous at times. I cherry pick the good stuff though, rather than questionable things that align with my beliefs (or hopes).

You've outlined (and partially demonstrated) the underlying problem in one of your own comments.
TRP is a (loosely) free market of ideas. Ignoring the great work done by the moderators, people are free to post their hypotheses, analyses, and opinions -- all with varying degrees of quality and insight -- and just like a free market economy the quality of the products is regulated by the consumer.
The quality of posts and the ability of the community to regulate this quality are both generally proportional to the individuals' understanding of TRP theory (ie how much of the literature they've read).
Now this is where the problem lies.
The bigger the community grows and the less people read the sidebar, the more the quality of posts declines.
This is why I personally recommend people avoid reading the forum until they've digested most of the reading material; not only because it will enable them to contribute with a greater degree of quality when they do enter the forum, but also because it will make their own use of the forum more productive -- now that they can regulate what they read more effectively.
[–]Stythe1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is true and generally the case with any group of people with a certain set if circumstances or beliefs. There's a cult-like aspect to it. It's not really the fault of anyone but the people following and the only way around it is if thr people are self ware enough to avoid it. Most people don't want to think, they want to be told. This is true everywhere. Take what you want from TRP but don't think everything is gospel.

Keep in mind that in male communities you need to 'earn' your right to critique.
I don't think you've spent enough time on this sub. I've read posts that directly cite the literature you mention, granted they are not as upvoted or extolled as more rhetorical posts.
Writers that can wrap up the scientific literature in a palpable way for the masses of RP users get upvoted to the moon.
Sounds like you have some of that background. Why don't you contribute your expertise and do some quality writing for the sub instead of 'critiquing.'

The lenght of someone's presence on TRP is hardly a metric of "how much TRP did he internalize or how much repill is he in real life."
The lenght of his presence on TRP has nothing to do with the points he raised.
The gist of his arument is (would love to see the original post to be sure) - "the core TRP principles and ideas are good and working, but there are negative trends I see in how the content is written, upvoted and commented".
The point itself is either valid or not, regardless if he's is a newbie or a TRP Vanguard.

Certainly, as the size of this sub increased, the quality of the posts have decreased. This pretty much happens with any community - as it gets larger, the core message gets diluted and distorted by the masses.
This happens even more strongly when the masses don't read the core material for the ideology. In this case, it's the sidebar material. It's also some of the major blogs for the Red Pill: Return of Kings, Illimitible Men, The Rational Male, etc.
I don't spend as much time on here as I used to because honestly, I've learned the core material. It's turning into a bunch of re-hashes.
To re-iterate things said by /u/GayLubeOil and many others, you need to think about what's said here, see what seems most true to you. You also need to apply it to your life. A practical understanding of something is far more powerful than just a theoretical understanding.

True. I'm curious of your opinion. What do you think of the rule "leave them better than you found them" and the existence (and effectiveness) of dark triad tactics.
[–]BareFistEmpiricist[S] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
"Leave them better then you found them" sounds to me like a moral decision. Its a matter of personal preference how much you want to take the well being of others into consideration.
Smarter and more socially conscious adults don't generally like others who exhibit a palpable level of any of the Dark Triad personality traits. Braggadocio for instance may be acceptable behavior among truck drivers get hammered at a bar, but among more socio-economically advanced people, it will come off as brash and make you look dull. Using Machiavellian tactics to get ahead is great if nobody else notices, but if they do and start gossiping about it then it will backfire. That's my short answer.
[–]moontripper12462 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with your reply. Haha maybe I had an intuition I would and that's why I asked it. Anyways, this is especially true "Using Machiavellian tactics to get ahead is great if nobody else notices". It is a moral decision in the end, and I think a healthier decision all around, which I don't think has anything to do with socio-economic positioning, just with regular human ethics. A rich man an be just as amoral as a poor man.
"Smarter and more socially conscious adults don't generally like others who exhibit a palpable level of any of the Dark Triad personality traits" Actually, I'd say its completely irrelevant, the connection between intelligence and moral decision. Again, there are many incredibly intelligent people who are immoral (in a general sense) and many idiotic people who are moral (in a general sense). It really does just have to do with which way you personally swing, and trying to rationalize it in socio-economic class dehumanizes poorer people needlessly.

Do women, in general, try to live by that rule?
[–]moontripper12463 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If the contention here is that "women are irresponsible" and "men need to be responsible" why would we ever try to emulate their behavior? It's not a matter of whether women do it or not, it's only a matter of whether you can pull it of (from the perspective of ability) and whether or not you can sleep at night afterwards (personal moral implications).
[–]3whatsthisgarg1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
the rule "leave them better than you found them" Do women, in general, try to live by that rule?
the rule "leave them better than you found them"
That is such an outlandish notion that I never even considered to wonder why they couldn't, and I mean literally couldn't.
Even women who pretend that they like to take on "project" guys and "improve" them don't do this, because they won't leave them until they drain all the value they can from them.
[–]88Will88 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
TRP is a tool kit, not a cult. It uses generalisations and bro talk to get points across. I think TRP will evolve into something more subtle in due course but for now it remains a toolkit for sexual strategy, a place where angry guys can vent and swap stories, and an aggressive backlash to the stupidity of feminism. For now I am quite happy with TRP the way it is and I do not think we need to go all peer review paper level on our posts just yet.
[–]gjs6280 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I can at least say that TRP doesn't claim to be the be-all and end-all of everything. It boils down complex ideas to core principles and the only way for it to develop is by a number of people throwing ideas into the pot. Some are great and are adopted, others are BS and are discarded. This is the only way for the "philosophy" to grow.
Plus, not everything will apply to everyone. Spinning plates won't apply to married guys (well, unless your wife is a complete bitch...) and not every woman is identical in every aspect.
I came here because my other half cheated on me before we were married and I honestly could not reconcile cheating with a healthy marriage inside my own head, I was an absolute mess. She has dedicated herself to being the best wife possible ever since and I truly believe that she's a good woman. That doesn't mean she's incapable of doing it again. I was a textbook beta putting her on a pedestal and I lost out to Alpha Al but in the process, was broken and remade into a DGAF hardass. Took up Krav Maga and got to instructor level. I mean seriously, if you're threatened in the street by some thug and you "be the bigger man and walk away", she says she'll respect you - she won't. Real men don't walk away. They don't fight. They swiftly destroy their opposition and move forward. Otherwise why should she expect you to protect her when the badass in your face could do it better?

What this sub completely fails to understand and appreciate that Women also follow the Laws of Nature. There laws are not "logical" as the Minds of Minds think they should be, a lower level of simplistic cause and effect. Women and Men represent Yin and Yang, and both are incomplete without each other.
1) Getting Kills Wanting. The more easily you get something the less you want it. The most precious things like good food, a vacation, would rank very high if you were not able to get them so easily. The same with women, if you were able to get them with relative ease, romance wouldn't be mysterious and precious like it should be.
The Look by Sara Teasdale Stephen kissed me in the spring, Robin in the fall, But Colin only looked at me And never kissed at all. Stephen's kiss was lost in jest, Robin's lost in play, But the kiss in Colin's eyes Haunts me night and day.
2) The mystery of life is its unknowability - if you were able to get a woman with a few series of skills or methods or even by being someone, romance and love would be predictable. Instead life is eternally magical and worth living because we never run out of challenge, we can never fully discover ourselves and this journey is worth it till 80-90 years of life.
The Magic Never Ends.
3) Yin and Yang are united at a higher level of consciousness. When you try to reconcile men's rational nature with women's irrational whimsicality for a long enough time and are not able to relinquish either, your consciousness expands to realize there is a higher level of "superconsciousness" where opposites can co-exist as different manifestations of the same force. Anger and Sadness is the same thing. Love and Hate is is the same thing. Happiness and Misery is is the same thing.

You actually described the bulk of MGTOW, on youtube and other places, as well.
I distanced myself from MGTOW some time ago by referring it to a culture rather than a community as the infighting got worse and worse. I knew about MGTOW ideas, some evo psych, gendered psychological differences, old school and red pill PUA, and Rollo Tommassi's ideas. I went on my own to look into theories on Red Pill Women, the work of Sue Johnson, Laura Doyle, Gary Chapman (The 5 Love Languages), and now more recently the books NO MORE MR. NICE GUY, and the book MODELS which I'm reading right now. I have learned to study human beings on my own, apply evidence and logical fallacy avoiding thinking (rational thinking), and let no individual or group override that rational thinking with logical fallacies or poor probability arguments.
I feel alone. I find people with truths, but I never find truthseekers. The people calling themselves truthseekers always hit a snag based on past trauma, and then I feel like I surpass them in some way, and my intellectual loneliness continues to grow. Though that's not to say that my past isn't manipulating me as well, I'm well aware of it and regularly examine it for how it might be affecting me. Honestly I'm optimistic though because I think male self-development hasn't been streamlined yet, inclusive of making relationships work with women without trying to run "game" or be someone you aren't; I see that streamlining happening in the future as a byproduct of a greater understanding of human beings, which is the bigger goal that will cause the most fulfillment in society.
People in MGTOW, PUA, Red Pill circles care too much about evolutionary psychology/gendered differences and what that means for self improvement and relationships. For me, fleshing out attachment theory, and what human attachment and perception means for the formation of a personality, is the holy grail.

Part of the 'binary' nature of TRP I think because it is so fiercely resisted and criticised. Every single tenet has to be fought and pushed for because it not only goes against the mainstream, it is actively suppressed by it. You're right this doesn't leave much room for nuance or theoretical debates, but to some extent TRP doesn't have that luxury. If it was widely accepted, sure, maybe that subtlety can occur, but it isn't, so it can't be. From an academic standpoint this is bad, you're correct, but we don't have time for academics because so many men are too busy drowning.
As for the broader critiques of accuracy, I ignore (and recommend others do so) any 'Red Pill' approach to international relations or higher level politics. As someone who is an expert in the area, TRP's take on IR theory and international relations is literally laughable. It varies from those whose only goal in life is for Putin to let them have his babies, and a bunch of 'roided up half-wit 'realists'. But then again, if TRP is wandering into IR debates something's gone wrong and you should turn back.
This smells very strongly of concern trolling, or at the very least someone choking on the pill.
Take point 2 for example - TRP is deliberately binary. When we say AWALT, we don't mean they're literally all exactly the same, we mean that they have the same basic programming, and to treat them as such. A great analogy someone made on here is that "all guns are loaded". They're obviously not, but you treat them as if they are as a basic precaution.

Then why do you care if the theories are well researched or not? They are simply conclusions from seeing how things behave irl.
Because, based on my (admittedly) limited experience here, people sometimes like to make TRP theories seem like they're grounded in evolutionary psychology(or some other scientific discipline) to give them a facade of legitimacy by association with "science". I like TRP theories, but dressing them up like "science" is misleading. If they work, thats great, but there is no need to make them seem seem sciency.

.1.
What's the point here? Use search and most likely there's an in depth TRP-post about nearly every topic. Working knowledge is sufficient to make a point.
.2.
The core of TRP is in the side bar. Practically every facet has its own dedicated thread. Responses in those threads and most new posts are nuances of the core concepts.
.3.
Whats the point here? The anger phase is real. Guys have this space to vent, see their emotions in words, and receive feedback on how to work through it. Some guys have experienced the worst misandry and emotional turmoil. It's devastating. But, guys that have survived are helping the new guys either are in it or never experienced it. The beauty is that reality is ugly and therein lies its beauty.
These are my criticisms...
Thanks. If you haven't read the sidebar, please do so.
Here's an interesting perspective I believe:
1 - new guy shows up at TRP 2 - new guy glances over front page 3 - new guy cherry picks posts and topics which fit cognitive bias 4 - new guy feels empowered to save the world (TRP) 5 - new guy makes post criticizing TRP 6 - new guy gets offended when senior TRP members point out fallacies 7 - new guy gets offended 8 - frustrated new guy finally reads side bar 9 - frustrated new guy becomes enlightened dude 10 - enlightened dude brings nuanced view points back to main forum to help others 11 - new guy shows up at TRP...
Pattern recognition FTW
Here is the reality, no need to speculate Mr. Red Pill Endorsed: 1 - new guy shows up at TRP
2 - new guy glances over cover pages
3 - new guy reads a few articles at random, not cherry picked
4 - new guy doesn't have any intention of saving the world
5 - new guy reads TRP Handbook
6 - new guy reads a few more articles from TRP and some from Illimitable man
7 - one day whilst drinking a beer and checking Facebook, new guy sees an annoying feminist article and thinks of TRP and decides to post this stupid shit post
8 - post gets kinda popular, sqerl notices post, makes assumptions, and posts some silly little response to defend his territory as a TRP endorsed contributor

Yet, before one comments on pseudoscience one should defer to the nuanced knowledge of PhD's. Because, a sociology PhD really has the requisite knowledge to educate us that penis is a social construct. Or perhaps a women's/gender studies PhD can educate us on the nuances of the Patriarchy. Or perhaps a Male Jewish communist with a PhD in community organizing can educate us on Straight White Male Privilege.
You see, that is why one should reject nuance, because it is a trick used in a weak attempt to bamboozle you into believing absurd premises.
One should evaluate the truth on its merits, not on credentialism.
Credentialism is what leads to the Iraq war with perhaps 1,000,000 casualties because one subscribes to the belief that the New York Times is "reputable." That is but one example of many.

This can't be a serious question but I'll answer it as if it were. No, as captured by the concept of mosaic evolution, human cognition has benefited dramatically from encephalization resulting from changing selection pressures (i.e from female to male kin bonded groups) during the miocene.
Bashing you is easy but time consuming, go read a book kid.
