Only way to find out is to put it to use. If you've got the material it probably means you have thus far not been very successful with women. How much worse could you get?

I can say it works, but more importantly it opened my eyes to how social interactions work. It made me more aware of body language, it made me more aware of the differences in how males and females communicate. I made me realize how important it is to kino (touch) to emphasize my points as I talk.

That is more value than repeating a bunch of lines to get a girl to get her pants off. Now go ahead, take that first step.

You mention that you've read and listened to the material, but have you actually tried to put any of it to use?

You need to get out and practice to actually learn pickup.

First, you are right to be asking if it actually works. Its important to see if the original claims match up to the results. And it is possible it's all a scam.

I think the important thing is to approach it with an open mind. Treat it as an experiment, give it an honest try and see what happens. If you don't like the results then you can stop.

This isn't about PUA material specifically, but it is about a book that helped me years ago -- Intimate Connections. It's not a PUA book exactly and it focuses on inner game, but touches on a lot of the same themes. I found it extremely helpful, and I'm certain that I have far fewer girlfriends if I didn't read it. I've had some HB10 girlfriends (models, boxing-ring girls, a stripper, a girlfriend who looked like Nicole Kidman, one who looked like Liv Tyler).

It helped me to be more comfortable with myself, which has made a huge difference in my life.

The answer depends on what you would consider "actually working." If you think the goal of studying PUA material is to get laid, I can't say it's actually worked so far. But I'm still fairly new to this game, and have had a long dry spell before that.

If, like me, you think that PUA material is designed to get you out of your rut and start improving your attitudes and having fun with social situations, I would say yes, it works well enough.

I would say yes, it does work... but it's not magic. Like others have said, you have to work at it. What I learned the most from it was just being aware of what my body language was saying, the importance of humor and confidence, etc.

A year ago or so, there was a VH1 show, The PUA, and mystery taught a bunch of AFCs how to get girls. Most of them did quite well and learned a lot.

Its good tips and pointers to set you out in the correct line of thinking. Personally, it only reinforced my natural behavior around women. (I'm naturally cocky/funny) and added to my arsenal as well as helped me where I struggled (DHVs).

But I can say after reading a Mystery method I used some of his openers word for word (beta, I know, but an experiment nonetheless) and it lead to phone numbers as well as my friend meeting his ex-gf (she was crazy).

The point is to practice these methods, and understand why they work and not just follow them step by step. Adaptability is key in an pickup attempt as unexpected things happen and each girl is slightly different in her responses.

It works, but you won't see immediate results. Once you get to the point where you actually don't give a fuck, all of the sudden you will find that most women want to fuck you -- and many of them will.

Err yes, my life is completely different from before I ever read "The Game".

When I was 23 I read the game. I had previously slept with 3 different girls in my life. Three years later that number is now 28 (I think, it may be 29).

I have bags more confidence than I ever did before, I feel happier in my day to day life, I'm doing more random non-work activities, I have more friends, I'm fitter, eat healthier. Reading "The Game" then further self improvement material pushed me to improve in so many different areas that I no longer even feel the need to use any of the standard PUA games/tricks/lines, I only ever use "natural" game now.

If you've already read the material, then you shouldn't be worried about being scammed. Either you already paid for it, and the "scam" already worked, or you read it without paying for it, and you're in no danger of being scammed.

Unless you think hundreds of people you don't know are all part of some elaborate plot to make you personally look like an idiot.

I don't know what you're afraid of, as far as trying this out.

I think it'd be good to get a study going. Grab maybe 60 random guys and split them into 3 groups. Group 1 you just watch, you don't tell them anything. Group 2 you tell give them all the PUA material etc and you let them run riot. Group 3 get none of the same PUA material but have to talk to as maybe girls as the PUAs.

Ask all the groups the same questions. How many girls have you slept with during the experiment. How many relationships? How many kisses?

In fact, any PUA confident in his system would be happy to let people use it so he could have proof his works.

PUA stuff is all about motivation. If it motivates you to go out, talk to people, and work on improving yourself, then yes it works (quite well). On the other hand if it motivates you to stay inside, read books, and watch video's, then no it wont work.

As for myself it motivated me to loose over 50 pounds, put on a good deal of muscle, improved my style, improved my social skills (Because I went out and talked to people!), and over all improved MANY aspects of my life because I gained confidence.

There is no guarantee at all that you will get laid with this stuff. None of the material has been proven to get you laid. But, the basic idea of trying something new, failing, and learning from failure has been proven over and over again to raise your self esteem and self efficacy. I think that's really the main reason to do it, not simply for getting laid. That also has a major positive effect on your mental and physical health. If you try it and you don't get laid on the first try, that doesn't mean you've failed and it doesn't work. It just means that you have a new opportunity to learn from the experience and try something else. That's really where the opportunity for growth is.

By the way, yes there are tons of things they will say to do that won't work or won't work for you. But until every little thing is put to the test scientifically, you'll just have to experiment and find out on your own which ones are BS.

I am pretty sure even if you didn't have the material, went out consistently and tried to improve your interactions with women you would get better. even if you made some large mistakes. the material itself... the concepts... is just something to play around with out there to see if you can shorten you learning period.

i think what all this material does is point u in a direction. it gives you a lil' bit of confidence to go out and talk to random people. it's not like all the sudden u read these books and u get instant knowledge of how to keep a conversation going. it gives u a lil' push to get the ball rolling, once you start u make your own judgments and learn how easy it is to just talk to another human being instead of worrying about your anxiety.

I don't think that following all of the PUA methods verbatim would be really effective. But using bits and pieces of the material, and applying it to my personality I think has been somewhat effective. (Knock on wood)

Downloading a bunch of stuff illegally, browsing through it, catching a few "Huh, that's not bad" and being honest about how many girls I was actually approaching was enough for me. The most effective questions you have to ask yourself are "Am I approaching girls?", "Am I making my intentions clear?" and "Am I backing off even though I'm sure that they're intested?". Change those three things and you will see huge changes, and from there, it's all about details.

Here is my experience, and some of this will sound like bragging but it's not I'm just trying to share my perspective. I've always been what most was consider a very good looking guy. I'm very tall, built like a line backer, and I have very masculine features. Even in high school I was good looking. Despite this, I couldn't get laid in high school if my life depended on it. I didn't even kiss a girl until I was 18. In college I joined a fraternity and finally lost my virginity to what I would no consider a 6 when I was 19. I slept with a total of 6 girls in college, and ended up with one long term girlfriend (6 years) who at the time I thought was a ten, but who in retrospect was maybe a 6. So, I wasn't totally helpless, but I relied totally on my looks, alcohol, and waiting around for girls to approach me. My confidence sucked because of my past failures. Fast forward to grad school, my long term girl and I broke up, and I started working out hard, got in great shape, my confidence went up and I started hooking up with pretty hot girls, but I still couldn't get them to stick around. I would attract them just by being good looking, and I could usually get them to fuck, but they would flake on me after a week or two.

So, up until this point, I had no knowledge of game. I was doing ok with good looking girls, but I just wasn't living up to my potential. Then I read the Game, followed by most of roissy's stuff, red queen, and a few other books, and started to make conscious changes in the way I deal with and respond to women. The difference was dramatic. I have girls doing crazy shit for me now, they call me constantly, and I literally have to weed them out because I just don't have enough time for them all. I still suck at the cold approach, but if I get an intro to a girl, it's over. So for me, game hasn't necessarily made me better at approaching, but my close rate when I get an opening has gone through the roof, and my ability to control women has improved so dramatically I can't believe I ever did things differently.

So for me the community has not improved my cold approach skills, but has improved the quality of relationships I have with the girls I meet. I think if nothing else, even if you suck at the actual pickup, it will prepare you so you dont fuck up when the hottie actually just falls in your lap.
