I never get phone numbers anymore. It's way too boring of a communication method. With Instagram you can let the conversation fizzle out if it's not moving into date territory and pick it back up by replying to her stories. It's way easier than texting because the conversation starters are built in. The other huge benefit is you can use it to see when girls become single who had a boyfriend at the time when you met them.

edit: just poking fun and exaggerating the concept with the image. There are people who have had some kind of connection with a person that is taken, but nothing comes out of out it rightfully so. Women statistically do not make the first move, so to reignite that little connection to see where it goes, can sometimes be worth it (assuming the woman is ready for that step). This could be a long period after the end of her relationship, not immediately after.

People don't really think things through. I was in this situation, my wife was fucking around with other people, we're getting divorced, but she and the people who got involved in the divorce think they're in the free and clear. What she never seemed to understand, and clearly didn't communicate to her little posse of shitheads, is that I am an incredibly patient person with means, and I am just waiting for the agreement to be signed. Once that's done, I'm dropping the packages I, my PIs, and digital forensics guy put together in the mail that will. Fuck. Their. Lives. Up.
Was it worth the cost of a used car to pay for that much surveillance? Probably not, but it was barely a rounding error for me. That said, it will cost the idiots who got involved careers, marriages, and in the case of the guy my people caught dealing, probably his freedom for a couple years.

Maybe reframe it to not everyone you have long conversations with have to be a potential gf/hook up. Maybe that's how she is - some people are "super friendly" or they want attention/followers, some people wear their wedding bands and others don't. Sure you can judge, make assumptions, "I've known/seen/are friends with people like this", and it may or may not be true but probably healthier/better mindset to not think too much into it, but good to be aware.
Though it's understandable to feel or think that way! People can come off a certain way and especially if there's interest, we have expectations and it's disappointing when it's not met or we feel slighted

It's not bad, preferabe to ask for phone numbers with more of we should hang out sometime vibe. You're reading too much into it. You know what worked for me? I went from being a dude who couldn't get laid in a whore house with a $100 bill, to banging damn near anyone I wanted. You need to be able to screen out the peole who will "waste your time".... you need to do some escalation - gentle flirting and some physical escalation ( however mild and subtle) if they are not avaliable they won't respond, if they are not interested in you they won't respond, then you can tell they are just a friendly person and either move on or just continue the freindly vibe. But at least you know where you are. ( this is also called man to woman communication rather than platonic....)
Edit - the best PUa have said 1/3 people don't like you , 1/3 like you on a friendly level but are not avalaible ( like this one) and 1/3 will like you and very avaliable to be chatted up. So you need to screen them out to not waste your time if you want to pick up.

Remember if you feel wierd they will feel wierd and pick up on your awkwardness killing any vibe you had.... , some contact is very normal, start of small and during an interaction increase the intensity/types very slowly, this is all very subtle and back off if they are not conformable with you at that moment, its the same principle for verbal escalation and how you flirt/talk to them.
