Closed mouths don’t get fed. Most men aren’t handsome enough where they can lay back in the cut and have women come to them
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago [recovered] (21 children) | Copy Link
So an average silent guy should aim to change his behaviour to get noticed? I don't think this would work honestly...it's forced
[–]dametime223 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
If you're not willing to put in some work don't expect women to do so for you...
It's not that hard to talk to people and be friendly. You don't have to turn from introvert to extrovert.
Sorry if I'm wrong, but I feel like you are too "scared" to talk to girls and you'd rather remain silent than risking to fuck something up.
[–]8Captcrunch8 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Or he just doesnt have much to say... I go quiet all the time. Am i still thinking? Sure. I just dont feel the need to let my mouth go sometimes lol

I guess I missed the point too, what point are you trying to make? Do you think remaining silent will end up in you getting laid?
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
Is it worth to change your attitude in public (silent to chatty) to avoid looking close or mysterious? Or is looking 'intimidating and loosing some shots the right price you need to pay to stay yourself? This is the point
It never was about not making a move or expecting girls to make it for you. Being silent doesn't imply being still.
You can shoot your shots without being the chatty guy
For those who are still misinterpreting all this just to speak your truth about the one and only correct attitude man should have please abstain
[–]Jaykee808 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
to avoid looking close or mysterious?
Are you sure you don't just give off creep vibes though? If you're not super attractive then no one is going to care about you if you're silent, usually girls have enough guys to choose from.
[–]purpledominator1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Yes this is entirely possible, I guess having a bad or sad expression won't help, but other than that I don't get how if you are not super attractive you should force yourself to talk more. How should this help?
[–]Powdered_Toast_Man3 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Most women simply won't be interested in you if they know nothing about you. And guess what, the only way they can know anything about you is if you talk to them. I understand you're not the chatty type, but I also get the feeling just from reading how you're phrasing things that you have some communication issues. My advice would be just to practice talking. The more you do it the more you become comfortable at it and the better you will be at conveying your thoughts and feelings. It's practice like anything else. In your case, I think you're going to have to go beyond your comfort zone
[–]purpledominator0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I don't know where I said I have problems talking to girls btw the point is not going and talking to the girl you like or anything approach related. The point is staying secluded in group contexts if you feel like it or don't have anything to say or you just don't want to chit chat
I mean of course you can't get to know people (not girls in particular) if you don't talk to them but what if you don't really have anything to add to the conversation, let's say maybe in a group of stranger randomly met. What would you do?
To add my personal experience, if I try too hard to get in the conversation being outgoing I usually don't get that much attention and I feel as a huge weirdo, whereas when I'm being chill and not giving a fuck about having to partecipate, I usually get way more attention and when I do speak sometimes people just shut up like i have something important to tell while other times they just seem to drool over the talkative guys of the group who started the convo and I get completely ignored. Its 50/50 but at least I don't feel like a creep
This is why I'm trying to sort it out
[–]CompleteRetard69 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I see what you’re saying. You have to change your personality to something you aren’t. It’s annoying.
[–]cangero0 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
From one quiet guy to another, don't force yourself to be the party person, it doesn't work, it's forced, and it's not you. Small scale conversation and interaction is where you thrive. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, you just need to be able to captivate one person's attention.
[–]SocialReject101 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You don't need to get noticed. You are trying to find shortcuts and excuses not to be proactive and approach yourself. If you are average or ugly and have no social value you can do almost anything you want to get noticed and women will not approach you or in worst cases you might get reported lol. You have to approach or have high social value. You can stay silent at one spot and enjoy the evening but as soon as you see someone you are interested in you have to approach. You don't need to become hyperactive or a clown. It is way more sexy when a silent average guy approaches someone with confidence ratger than being an obnoxious loudmouth creep

[–]Long_Restaurant1931[🍰] 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It depends how you wear it. Quiet and mellow can either come off as not confident and low self value, or it can come off as confident and secure and mysterious and alluring.
It all depends my man.
[–]Then-Compote6185 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Facts, a silent (decent) guy who can hold strong eye contact with a small smile is mysterious,
[–]SocialReject101 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
Have to agree with the other guy. If you are not physically attractive or socially valuable your silence will be taken as insecurity to speak rather than chill attitude. Anyway, women will not approach you
[–]MO_drps_knwldg 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
Concur with this and the other comment. Guys who are gregarious and social typically do the best with women. You have to be physically attractive or have demonstrated social to pull off the ‘silent’ type’ vibe.
That’s why it’s important to never be shy. Shyness is a social inhibition that stems from fear of rejection, it’s not a personality type.
Being an introvert doesn’t mean you have to be shy. Introverts might need more recovery time in social settings with large numbers of people, but it doesn’t mean they’re destined to be shy.
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link
Again, are we just talking about random observations or what? Are you an introvert or you have friends like that?
Who said you can't be shy?
[–]MO_drps_knwldg 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Yes, I’m an introvert but I’m outgoing. My girlfriend even says she thinks I’m an extrovert, but I know this isn’t the case.
I used to use my introversion as an excuse to be shy, but my success with women didn’t improve until I rejected that limiting mindset. I’ve also simply observed in social circles and interactions with strangers that this is the case.
Being shy is the biggest inhibitor to success with women. It’s not being short, bald, or even being fat. It’s being shy.
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

[–]SocialReject101 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Not if you start approaching instead of taking OPs route of just sitting calmly and doing nothing. Average guys havd it on hard mode. Want to procreate? Act !
[–]TooMuchJibberish 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm aware of this. But I'd still argue average and below average guys are still generally screwed
Generally yes. That id how nature works. Persistence and perseverance will prevail. That is why you have to work to spread your seed or be left in the gutter for everyone to forget.
[–]TooMuchJibberish1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I'd argue even after perseverance some guys are just meant to be weeded out due to their looks.
I'm one of those guys, good thing I won't be weeded out since I'll have a kid with a surrogate mother perhaps 5-10 years down the road but those who don't do what I'll probably have to do are going to be weeded out either way no matter how hard they try.
[–]ZealousidealPlane248 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
What is the point of even asking a question in a forum if you’re going to disregard every response that doesn’t confirm what you want to hear by asking if they are giving advice from the exact same situation you’re in? If you want a pity circle jerk you’re probably in the wrong place.
Now with that said, I am similarly quiet when I don’t know people and talkative when I get to know them, and yeah that’s basically a deal breaker for women. It’s because the reason you’re quiet is shyness not a lack of interest in small talk, if that was the case you’d just ask interesting questions to strangers instead of waiting for them to be friends first. And yes, I know this from personal experience as an introvert since you need that to consider the point valid.
So now you have two options to fix the situation. Put a lot of work into your appearance, so that you’re attractive enough not to need to talk to women. That’ll be hard and take a long time most likely and if you’re still not decently sociable that’s only good for hooking up. You can also take some the advice given here already without asking for one to one anecdotal evidence to your situation and work on social skills so that you learn how to have interesting conversations with strangers and approach women without waiting for them to do the work for you. Good luck with either one you choose, or if you think you’re perfect as is and the women should approach you to get to know you anyway, good luck there too.
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Read the comments dude, I disregard general assumptions (as yours) made as if they were axioms
You are assuming too many thing here and I just don't want to quote every single thing
How do you know the reason I'm quiet? You are projecting your thoughts (about yourself) on me
Where's the evidence? "I know that from personal experience" doesn't mean anything dude, I'm sorry.
Knowing it means you tried fucking being a clown, you got x results, then tried other ways etc etc
If you have this kind of experience I'm hapoy to hear it in details but don't just make assumptions on subjects as wide as human relations
(Just edited the title)
[–]ZealousidealPlane248 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Velociraptor2018 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
This is one experience so it probably doesn't translate to much but I'm usually the quiet one and I haven't really gotten anywhere with the the ladies, but a few nights ago I auditioned for this play and was being loud, and funny and goofy, and this girl I was there with friended me on fb and messaged me a bunch, even FaceTimed me the day after. I think confidence is the sexiest thing, not being quiet vs loud, though it's much easier to be confident where you're putting yourself out there
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
Thank you man, finally someone talking from experience, I think we must discuss things from a concrete perspesctive and not just theorize
I usually try to get as fun and "loud' as possibile but it just isn't my style and It takes me out of the game quickly. I mean, there must be a middle ground in our approach
[–]Kennymacdougall 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
No middle ground. When you act differently than you are, it might get a girl's attention.
But after a while she will ask you why you aren't that funny guy you used to be when they met.
It's all up to you. Do you really want to put up an act or just be your own natural self?
It's hilarious that people find silent people insecure and more energetic people confident while the great leaders in the past were always quiet and reserved men.
[–]Jaykee808 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Who are these quiet reserved great leaders you speak of? Good luck being a politician if you're quiet.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, my fear is to attract girls who just aren't my type because of a mask which will eventually fade under my true self
[–]Kennymacdougall 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. Eventually that mask will fall off and she will move onto another guy.
Always best to be honest right from the start
[–]U1tra1ightBeam 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It depends. You most likely won’t pull a girl every night, but it doesn’t remove you from the overall equation. Some girls prefer the quiet guys because they seem more reliable than the “life of the party” kinds. However some people have correctly commented here that it really depends whether you look insecure or content with yourself and “mysterious”. The first one pretty likely won’t get approached. The second one will.
Is it your experience?
My point wasn't about being approached, I wonder if being my truly self would result in less successful interactions than acting loud and fake but
I must say I got random success in both ways, even if "acting loud" exhausts me. It's just that I get the feeling that being silent can be intimidating, resulting in lost opportunities
[–]RobbyRock75 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You can consider a “chaos” theory for the world or you can consider the “alpha” theory of the world but in the end it comes down to you just being happy being you and that’s that.
Join social activities you like, hang out at places you like, consider work that you like and focus on that because it will keep you happy and people are easy to be around when they are happy with their lives.
This is exactly what I think but strategy-wise I'm still very open to new approaches
[–]RobbyRock75 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I worked in the entertainment field on the west coast for 20 years. I saw woman taking a different guy home 5 days a week and I saw guys trying t take home as many women as possible as often as they can. The people who were ignored this and focused on being happy with themselves were in the best place in their lives, always.
[–]cronasminate 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
In American culture, you can't be too silent. You need some form verbalizing your presence or you'll just seem too passive. Also it's not very realistic to expect to communicate without using the most efficient medium of communication.
This coming from a dude who is naturally introverted. You need to have some ability to utilize your extroverted side or you won't get anything done dating-wise or career-wise.
It's the same thing for extroverts. They can't just talk mindlessly and expect people to respect them. They need to develop their inward reflection that is natural for introverts.
Both spectrum of the extraversion scale that need to step out of their comfort zone to progress.
[–]purpledominator 4 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
This is food for thoughts, you really hit the point. I'm wondering how much you can align to that spectrum without having to fake behaviours
I mean, we are not talking about math, so hitting the optimal "amount" of needed extroversion must be achieved with slow little changes unless you want to end in the loop of faking
What's your opinion on that? If you are an introvert how did you sort it out?
I appreciated your point of view
[–]cronasminate 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Fundamentally, there is really no "fake behaviors." Some behavior feel fake because they are not rewarded. You just need to do some of these extroverted behaviors and be rewarded for it by changing your perspective.
Like for example, an introvert goes into a room and feels weird if they say something to the people inside because they think talking to people is unnatural. So you get rewarded for not talking and punished for talking. In the extrovert world, going into a room and not say something is just awkward af. With this perspective, you feel weird not saying anything and feel normal saying some base level social interaction.
This is the primary difference that I've seen with me and other introverts. It's the perspective that talking is unnatural. It's the most natural thing in the world. The start would be rocky since you've spend so much time not refining your articulation skills that it will take time to actually feel normal.
Now I'm at a point where I can flip a switch to be an extrovert when I need to. It's not fake, it's just a different vibe.
[–]focus_flow69 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nice explanation, I agree 💯. It's not about being fake, it's about being flexible, open minded, not fearing rejection and willingness to have different perspectives.
[–]Rico-Savage88 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Gotta say you can not think it’s easy to pick up women if you don’t say nothing. I personally don’t chase and I believe they’ll come but I’m not totally silent. I usually am goofy so I’ll laugh and crack a joke which most women like laughing. Try singing new and don’t seem thirsty. Big turnoff
[–]f1_77Bottasftw 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It can make things difficult, I'm a very quiet reserved person myself. However, I play in a band and have a lot of people that know me, so I can find success from this because I seem approachable and interesting(particularly after a show). It's not like I have women approach me all the time but usually at least one or two after a set and in other situations I can go out and approach a group with someone I know in it start talking to them and then introduce myself to a cute girl in an easy way.
Yeah of course being quiet doesn't mean not taking shots. When I'm chill I just wait for signals and then I introduce myself as you said
[–]HooperSinger2001 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I understand bro! No doubt. My answer is No it can’t ruin you. Honestly depending on how old you are. It’s actually an advantage. You are not trying to force the vibes or anything. You just being yourself. When I’m in a crowded place I.e. party or concert, I just enjoy that moment and turn up and everyone else follows. After awhile I get comfortable and talk to the strangers around me and Conversate and whatever happens after that happens. Only disadvantage would be beating yourself you up about your personality. There will be opportunities that right in front of face and you’ll miss them. That’s just how it is. They will be opportunities and you won’t even think about it. Moral of the story is continue to be you, build yourself up(not saying you have a confidence issue), go with the flow. Accept it and make peace with it. You sound like you are in your Late teens maybe early 20’s like myself so don’t even sweat it🙏🏽.
Great attitude bro

I learned that being quiet and mellow can be okay for building friendships but it's going to hold you back for anything seduction wise UNLESS you are very attractive or have high social status by being a celebrity.
As I said before, these black and white views on human dynamics are pointless. I'm sure I can talk for most people but taking my experience this is just false
I'm not crazy attractive and I still managed to get attention when I acted naturally being silent

You are the one who started the "handzome" bait, ok dude, I'm sorry this is your reality and you are projecting it on everybody, but it's not like this out there and you should not adopt this mentality
Just the fact that you are trying to define if a random dude on the internet is physically attractive or high value tells me you can't really see outside your box
There are no opinions here, you just think you are spitting facts and I'm ok with it but please stop giving your perspective out as if it's an absolute truth
If you were happy with yourself and you got results from being passive your post would be encouraging others to do the same. Instead you question it obviously because nothing of importance has happened to you that would justify this type of approach. Now you seek encouragement here from people that will tell you to keep doing this (and keep failing). Maybe someone will approach you. But you are really missing out on many options while sitting there and not being proactive because you want to live in your fantasy of "beeeeing yourself". You know you can upgrade yourself as well? You weren't born that way. But it takes time. As I said good luck but there is a high possibility that genetically you will be left on the curbside.
You must be really in a dark place dude, I feel really sorry for you
Your entire belief system is based on appearence and you think you are stating the obvious just by letting your mind wonder about what a random dude on the internet wrote
By the way I don't really consider your point of view valid but thank you fo using your time to comment. 👍

Shyness is a social inhibition that stems from fear of rejection, it’s not a personality type.
Being outgoing comes more naturally to some, but introversion and shyness aren’t one in the same. Introverts may need more recovery time and distance after social situations with large numbers of people, but you can be an outgoing introvert.
Agree 100% with the other comments. Women typically don’t like shy guys. They’re seen as insecure or uninteresting. A guy has to be very physically attractive or have demonstrated social value to pull off the ‘silent’ type initially
Even then, a less attractive guy with amazing social skills and demonstrated confidence will do better than a good looking, shy guy the majority of the time.
Good looking shy guys put women on edge. They wonder why a guy who should be incredibly confident is so quiet. Makes them wonder if he’s ashamed of something or has a lack of confidence.
Guys who are more social and gregarious typically do better with women. Some guys here may disagree with that, but that’s my experience and observation. I’m a naturally introvert, but I’ve had to work at becoming outgoing and social, even when it’s not my natural inclination.
90% of this comment is internet biased assumptions
10% reality, ok you are an introvert, are you getting more results being outgoing? Women are noticing you more?
[–]MO_drps_knwldg 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not saying their word, is gospel, but look at the other comments that are essentially saying the same thing. I would say the vast majority of men who have success with women would say that being shy/quiet will impede success with women
[–]Kennymacdougall 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I am also an introvert but not shy. I don't talk to people because:
I also approached hundreds of girls. They did not find that sexy at all but rather creepy and all of a sudden they have a boyfriend. It didn't matter if I was silent or acting a bit more talkative.
I have been approached by women before and one friend of mine told me that when she looked at me she became completely calm and she loved it.
Lastly, if people think you are insecure because you don't speak, then fuck them man. Who needs prejudiced assholes like that anyway?
Silence does not equal insecure. Whoever thinks like that is a complete idiot and does not even deserve to be approached.
Stay strong, brother
Comments like yours are gold, this is exactly what I was searching for, not for the hype (thank you bro) but for the trial and error
I find deep in my soul creepy as fuck to talk more than I need to or to talk when I don't give a damn about the subject (or being ignorant) and as you said I hate when people start talking about nothing just to fill voids
But I still don't have the (your) attitude to don't give a fuck and accept it. I faked being chatty a lot of times and it hurts
You're welcome brother.
I also didn't have the attitude at first. I invented mantras and repeated them over and over to help and eventually it did.
What might help also is to copy a few things such as clothes or attitude from your favorite characters in a videogame or movie/tvshow.
I adopted Hank Moody's IDGAF attitude from Californication. Really helped me.
I am a teacher and my student from Cuba almost undressed me in the club. (Long story. She is also married) She kept texting me that I had this power over her. She said that she just couldn't penetrate (no pun intended, haha) my silence and calm nature.
This happened more than once and even another student who seemed to be Lesbian invited me to her place while she would cook for me and couldn't take her yes off me.

Well if you don’t want to be a talker until you’re comfortable, get good at asking questions that keep people talking. Ask about things they seem interested in. Less talking, more listening for you, and at least you come off as engaging.

I noticed where a girl might be attracted to me and showing IOIs by sparking conversations, having a more feminine voice when talking to me but as soon as a I let one ‘friend’ talk shit about me few years back I noticed her behaviour change, which is probably because I became timid
[–]premedchunsa 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Okay bro. It’s all perception. When you’re handsome and silent, you’re “mysterious.” When you’re average and silent, you’re “shy and reserved.” When you’re ugly and silent, you’re “anti-social or a creep.” In a society where first impressions matter a lot, it’s better to come off sociable than the opposite both in the professional and romantic scene. You want all the advantage you can get. I don’t know if you’re still in college, but once you’re out, it’s harder to make friends without engaging in a bit of small talk. There’s really not much opportunity to bond over activities after college if you’re the quiet type.
[–]focus_flow69 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You already know the answer to this.
Being a quiet and reserved person will not do you any favours in life.
I was this person before and still am in certain ways. But growing up I came to the realization that to succeed in this world, you need the help of others. And to get the help of others, you cannot be quiet and shy and reserved.
My girl is also very shy and quiet when around new people, but not when she's around me, friends and family. She is very outgoing around people she is comfortable with.
She rationalized it to her just being shy and part of her personality. I have noticed that new people that don't know her well can interpret that shyness as being standoffish and disinterest. As do I actually when I see her in a public setting, if I didn't know her any better. As a result, she has a hard time making connections with new ppl. And this kills me because I know she's bubbly and sweet, but bevause of the way she portrays herself to the world, people don't see it that way and as a result, she misses out on a lot of interactions.
And that's for a girl. In a world where men are expected to lead and initiate, if you are shy and passive and reserved, you are at a severe disadvantage.

I think you are 100% correct about succeeding and needing the help of others , in most cases nobody is gonna help you, you just have to help yourself and if this implies asking strangers or getting out the bubble you must do it
But I don't know if this applies to dating success too, I mean, trying to be outgoing at work to get a better relationship with colleagues can serve a bigger purpose, but doing the same with strangers in a context when you shouldn't need anything from anyone like dating...you get what I'm saying?

Every friend you ever had in life was a stranger before they gave you their time, interest and affection.
Why did they give those things to a stranger they just met?
Because you bonded and connected and share details of your life over a period of time. You realized you relate to each other and enjoy each other's company on some level. If nobody shared anything about themselves or opened up, no one would be friends.
You aren't hoping to get anything from anyone, don't think so far ahead. You are just meeting people and connecting with people for the sake of doing so. Why do you do this? Because you recognize that in order to succeed in this world you need the help of others. And to get the help of others, you need to provide yourself the opportunity to meet and build relationships with strangers. That's it. More people in your life = more opportunities.

This is eye opening. I guess I understimate the importance of being friendly without a reason. When you see things like you presented you actually feel more curious about others.
Thank you brother

You are right, being curious is actually the key. Be curious about everything and everyone. It's not always about gaining or losing something, you are just curious for your own amusement.
I'll give another anecdote. I attended a martial arts class when I graduated school and was job searching. And one of the guys there was very helpful in coaching me on my technique. Very friendly and made it a fun time for me. We got talking and realized we were both engineers and he helped me land a job interview at the place he worked. Would this opportunity have presented itself if I was closed off with a resting bitch face, which may have discouraged this person from helping me or maybe let him think I was rude and standoffish, which he then wouldn't be as inclined to help me. I didn't go in thinking to be friendly because I wanted a job. I went in and was open to meeting cool new people while doing an activity that challenged me. The job just came up as we shared information about our lives.
I'm sure you have come across someone who is really friendly and social and when talking to them, you talk to them as if they are a friend you've known for a long time. If you haven't come across someone like this, then just trust me people like that exist in this world.
Strive to be this person. Read the charisma myth for more insight. Feel free to dm anytime for more perspective.
What kind of work have you done to embody this way of being? You just switch to friendly mode when you feel like it or you still have some kind of resistance?
Thank you for telling me your experience!

Yes. You’ve got to put yourself out there. And you’ve got to make your intentions known. Having women approach you out of nowhere while being the cool aloof guy only works on rare occasions. You can play hard to get but you have to at least be social to a degree.
