Face matters lightyears more than muscles. Trust me
[–]DrixlRey 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Agree! Nothing for you to be anxious about!
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I good face is better than anything.
Muscles. Money. Humor. Smarts.
Face is the 1st thing people see, it is the most important.
[–]DrixlRey 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, but not like end all be all, everything else is a close 2nd as well.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Distant second.
[–]DrixlRey 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I wouldn't want anyone to use that excuse to not work on themselves which saying humor/smarts/muscles/money is a DISTANT second will do.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It isn't an excuse not to work on yourself. Do it.
But don't think that being the funniest person in the room and having big shoulders is going to get you laid lol it won't.
[–]DrixlRey 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If that's how you feel you. Go ahead. I can't relate to how a man feels if he thinks he's judged by his looks and has no control over it like you do. You do you. I'll let you explain. My personal perception of the world is looks are very important, an important part of a whole. I'm no panty dropper but I've had great success improving myself as a whole person.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The most important part of the whole.
Others aren't deterrents or bad, but they're far from the most important (with money being an outlier)

Working out does accentuate facial features tho, especially if your on the leaner side of the spectrum
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If they're already great, it's a great boost.
If your face is average or bad, it IS a boost but nowhere near as good.
A good face is a 100 dollar bill. Muscles are a 20, a 10 and a 5.

Do you watch porn? For me the thing that finally made me conquer my anxiety was to quit porn, if you watch it i would really advice you to try it out. The build up hornyness can absolutely overwrite anxiety and shame.

I guess we all respond different, it made me feel restless and it was annoying, couldn’t focus But! It did make me chase women and escalate much more and care less.

Don’t chase girls at work. Eye contact -> smile -> move on.

Dont be too hard on yourself. If they are looking, its because they like what they see, even if you dont.
Also do exercise, changing your mass is something in our control. Be grateful its not something you have no control over. You are ok. Go for it!
[–]Roamingkillerpanda 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
How true is this? I always hear this but I oftentimes have a tough time fully believing it. I was born without one ear and had it reconstructed with surgery so sometimes I think that may be the reason they're looking.
[–]shakksss1 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Whilst I don’t have the same insecurity as you do I still have insecurities (I’m below average height) and the main thing is with women it’s mainly about confidence and security, really and truly it’s a problem if you make it a problem. Just walk around with your head held high and let your personality shine, she’ll obviously get over your ear issue and if she doesn’t she didn’t deserve you anyway
[–]dust-free2 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly, treat other people's interactions as innocent until proven guilty. In other words, attribute positive reasons instead of assuming it's negative.
She is looking at me: maybe she likes me, wants to get to know me, thinks I am cool, likes my clothes, etc.
Heck when if a girl had a negative reaction to your approach: she was not interested just like your not interested in tons of other girls on to the next, she has a boyfriend so not your fault, she was having a bad day which is not your fault, etc.
Everyone is insecure about something, even super models. The trick is to not let it control you.
[–]OldSoulBiz 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm not the creative type, but coming up with jokes or funny stories (they don't have to be true stories) about your ear will both boost your confidence and enables you to show people that you're a funny guy that doesn't let anything keep you down. How your ear looks like won't matter in the end.
Like think of a quick funny one-liner to say when you notice people are looking at it whilst walking past. You can leave the more intricate funny stories for when you're hanging out with people you don't know.
If anything your ear can be used as an icebreaker. Turn it into a strength my man.
Reminds me of that handicap person on youtube. The dude is fucking hilarious and has millions of followers. EDIT: found him >> https://www.youtube.com/user/Dog264sVideos
Like I said, I'm not creative. Ask people you're comfortable with to help you come up with something funny to say about your ear.

Go the gym and start working out and in the mean time focus on developing your inner-game. If you continually use affirmations and hype yourself up all the time, Women will be able to feel your confidence. Athletes always focus on winning, never loosing. Visualise yourself successful around Women.

[–]ImJustSo 20 points21 points22 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
I look at it as being a good friend to myself. I don't let people be jerks to my friends, I won't tolerate people being mean, or harmful. So then I just do that with myself, as if there's my friend and then there's this asshole who keeps talking shit to my buddy. Anytime he talks shit I say, "Hey dude, cut it out he doesn't deserve that."
I hold myself accountable, keep myself on track avoiding the negative. It doesn't have to be sunshine and rainbows all the time, but there's no reason to let myself be a jerk to my best friend. It frees up a lot of think-space and let's me enjoy life. Also, seems to work because other people describe me as the most confident/balanced person they know/have met.

[–]j0sephl 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
This is actually a tool therapist and counselors give to people. It's to personify your feelings. I dealt with a spat of anixety after a severe tragic event. I was told to give my anixety a name and to essentially to tell it off.
[–]LeMaik 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thats smart..so you call your anxiety "john" for example and whenever you feel anxious youre like "fuck off john" and that helps?
[–]j0sephl 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's pretty much it. Not sure why it worked but if I had to guess it was helping you recognize you actually we're anxious.
I remember after watching Iron Man 3 when he has the panic attack and thinking "That's exactly what it feels like!" It's hard to explain it because it's a weird feeling but giving a name to it I guess helps you understand you are feeling something.
Everyone has that voice in their mind that tells them they can't do something. So better give that voice a name and tell it to piss off.
[–]LeMaik 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Awesome! Definitely gonna start doing that, thank you!

Positive thinking is a band aid and not enough for sustainable results, sorry to say. You cant actually be a loser and tell yourself youre winner without first addressing WHY youre a winner. If you dont address WHY, with realistic factors (volunteering for kids, acceling at an activity, never a liar, other real positive traits, etc...) the BS will quickly wear off. Finally, to nail it home, the behavior has to change. If you dont change your behavior it will never be permanent. Action is everything. Not words. Not thoughts backed by nothing. Behavior is key. Dont like or believe in yourself? Change your behavior. Going to the gym is a great first step but theres lots of other productive examples out there that pertain to self growth.
Im getting wordy but thought experiments are just not enough.

What really gives me confidence, since I can't train atm due to football injury, is seeing ugly guys getting girls. This makes me think: If they can get girls, then I can too.
Use your environment at your advantage to boost your confidence
[–]KindLunch 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I would start with asking yourself better questions. Instead of, "Why being skinny gives me a disadvantage towards women?". You can try something a little more productive like, "What gives me an advantage over other guys?".
[–]poppa_daddy 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yup, some girls dig skinny guys, and find "muscular" guys to be repulsive
[–]aiakos 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeaaaah but that percentage of girls is extremely small. If you really don't want to add mass join cross fit, start running, swimming, hiking etc.. Exercise has many benefits beyond looking good for a potential partner and almost invariably helps in finding one. Some people find the body builder physique unattractive, but if you don't currently exercise, working out will also make you more attractive to almost every girl.
[–]Aristox 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not very many though tbh. Much better to go to the gym and actually improve yourself, rather than clinging to mindsets that make you feel a little better
[–]shakksss1 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
100 agree with this! You can’t rely on other people’s mindset to help see you through. Go out, workout and make it happen
It's all relative. You can be slim and athletic and be attractive like many of the boy band guys. Being skinny but can't do push-ups? That's problem. Being skinny has an advantage in that as you get stronger your likely will be very shredded so your muscles will be very noticeable but you won't be bulky assuming you dress well.
Work out to healthy and don't worry about becoming shredded, muscular or anything. Just try to be fit. Even if you don't notice it, others will even if they can't put their finger on it.
Form follows function.

Smile at them. They’re only people. If one of them gives you a bitch face, no more smiles for her then

Don’t shit where you eat. Workplace women will only give you headaches
Approach outside work, get used to the feeling, rinse and repeat.

I really encourage you to go to the gym! If you have friends that train you can start by just going with them to a test session. Then if you like it you can go regularly with them. Til you get the habit and will start going alone
[–]Kubiak-- 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Just say hi hows it goin?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Great simple advice. “ey hows it goin?” Has an actually insane success rate for my group of friends who are a lot like what op sounds like.
From a girls point of view, most women aren't that bothered by bodytypes especially if you have a cute face and a nice personality. And you know, like some other people say you can start working out, and cus you are skinny you can eat a shit-ton of food, which is always fun!
Ok, so even if you got to the point of going on a date, you couldn't go cus of your anxiety? I used to and sometimes still do get nauseous when I am anxious about going out with someone I really like, it's horrible I agree. But usually once you are on the date it's ok, it goes away once you get talking, and have a few drinks. Just gotta get past that part! I try to negotiate a type of date where I feel comfortable, like maybe its not even a date, it's just going out with friends and I invite that person to hang out with us, less pressure. Or we do a phsyical activity together, which takes the pressure off too. Or something I really love, or where I feel confident in. You just gotta find ways to work with your anxiety, fighting against it won't work.
And as for eye contact, do you smile when you look at them, do you look back at them as they walk away? Do you do the look at them, then look away, then look at them again and smile? These work nicely, and are fun to try out cus there are no verbal things involved. And you don't have to make a move, just have fun for now! If you show interest in someone and you see them again and again and keep showing interest, naturally things will happen, and it's fun watching it unfold.
Also you know a lot of girls like shy guys! Well you didnt say you were shy....anxious, but I assume also shy as a result of the anxiety.
[–]brackattack27 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Trust me as a skinny guy myself who has put on lots of muscle. Push ups. 30 before bed, 30 when you wake up. Watching your favorite show? 10 on commercials. You will notice a difference within a week.
[–]imageall 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's old school:
https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/does-exercising-at-night-affect-sleep
Sleep can be positivly affected by exercise before bed. The caveat is you can't do vigorous exercise like interval training.
[–]0001none 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Terrible waste of time. If you just do 60 pushups a day you'll improve to the point of being able to do that and then plateau.
Instead, do compound lifts in the gym (benchpress, squat, deadlift) and increase the weight anytime its possible to do more. in other words, progressive overload.
[–]Maggost 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Working out will give you a confident boost, yes. But that will not guarantee you an automatic reaction, you just have to do the approach, not matter what.
[–]Et-got-boned 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I want you to make a list here telling us what you think will happen if you approach a woman to say hi. “Excuse me, good morning, I was on my way to work and your eyes really caught my attention. My name is Benjamin and you are?” She says good morning, probably thank you and her name. (Say her name) “Id like to talk longer but now I’m going to be late for work bc I had to stop. Here, take my card and get in touch if you’d like to get a coffee sometime. Ok, have a fantastic day (her name again)”. What’s the worst that could actually happen?? Tell us please.
[–]AwesomeGothem 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I read you had anxiety and I had to share this https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/f038c0/all_along/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Nah but in all serious. The guys who said gym
Just say hi or good morning! It's that simple. You walk around with "I'm ready to smile" in your mind, rest your mouth, rest your eyes, think of something amusing. The moment you lock eyes, start to smile, then when you're about 5-8 feet away, just blurt out, "Morning!"
You don't even have to stop. Just attach eye contact to verbal contact. You already look at people, that's already an expression of you! Just gotta start realizing your smile and a hello is the exact same thing. You're allowed! Permit yourself.
[–]dHardalternative 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you can give me any idea on why do you think your skinniness is affecting your confidence levels (what do you think is the reason for that) I might be able to help you. I am skinny as well, but I am confident, so aim curious. Also describe the way you walk, talk, the way you carry yourself.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Maybe they've never seen such a weird looking guy.
Just kidding man. If you are self conscious, hit a gym. Try practicing in front of mirror.
[–]TheEudaimonicSelf 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Doing all this other stuff (e.g., gym, self affirmations, etc.) is great, but if your goal is to approach these women and go on dates, there is only ONE way to achieve that goal: approach.
Everyone has approach anxiety at some point. Dont conflate approach anxiety with a lack of core confidence. They can certainly feel similar but they arent the same thing at all.
Heres the thing: the only way to get over approach anxiety is to approach. So, next time you see a woman looking at you and giving you eye contact, walk up to her, smile, and say: "hey, what's up"
Good luck mate.
Also be careful flirting with women in your workplace in 2020
[–]arkadyi 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
First, what you feel is normal and quite typical. If you get this much eye contact from women, this mean that they find your attractive or at least entry enough to look. One solution is to be in a place where they're not moving, but actually seating down, i.e. cafes, public transportation, etc... The key is to make a mom chalant low pressure move just as soon as they look at you for the first time. "How is it going?" can go a long way in these types of situations. Then, you can follow up with something as simple as "Long day today?" Again, the key is not playing the old game of looking back several times and hoping that she's going to look at you again and again. It's not going to happen. You must make a move right away as you would usually only have one chance.
[–]redditgetsme- 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Give them eye contact and a small smile. I bet u get a smile back.
And are u skinny fit? Cuz skinny w a 6 pack and nice biceps is HOT.
[–]pogoli 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Do you also smile when you make eye contact? Can you nod and smile? Can you say "hi" or "good morning" while you nod and smile? Its absolutely terrifying for most people to do this, however... if you can force yourself to do it... it can be rewarding. Even if none of these girls turn into anything more than a friendly hello, a returned smile and hello from a stranger can make both your days, especially for the shy one(s). Additionally it can make the contact with the next person (for both of you) easier and more confident, and it increases the likelihood that someone may someday say more than hello, but most of the people on the street are on their way somewhere. I agree with the other suggestions of affirmations and exercise and any other things that help give you confidence (except alcohol).
Why don’t you just ask them something pertaining to work and give a compliment ? Start small.

The people who are mentioning "working out" are omitting the fact that it's MUCH easier said than done.
Working out entails you keep a strict workout and diet regimen, along with getting the right amount of sleep. If you fuck up any one of those 3, you won't see progress.
I am by no means scaring you away from it. I'm just laying out facts you need to know if you want results. Because at some point you might either get bored or lose motivation.
You need to set goals, and it ain't easy.
