You may feel that you don't want to get into some hurtful conversation, but ghosting is really rude and disrespectful move and may confuse and make harm far greater than straightly saying "no".
You do not provide the feedback for the person why you don't want to make contact with him anymore. You show no respect to the fellow human being or even person that you've once been close with. You try to go an easy way and don't improve your communication and confidence skills.
First step is just to make it obvious, don't leave people on "Read" or make up some crazy story.
[–]IAmCalhoun 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I guess I don’t get what else needs to be said. If you call me twice and never hear back…you really need a breakdown that I don’t want you? I could not want you because you live over 36 minutes away and I like chicks who closer.
Do I really need to get into that? Me telling you I don’t think you are worth a 36 minute drive will make you feel what?
[–]T_biologic -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Closure.
[–]IAmCalhoun 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I guess I don’t get how that is closure. Closure is when they don’t pick up. What else is there to wonder about? People who like you show they like you. If you wonder, will he ever call, unless something drastic came up, even if he calls, it’s because he didn’t have anyone else.
Asking them to give you a breakdown for thing that they didn’t like, but might be totally acceptable to someone else is a setup for failure.
I don’t look for the girl who I like. I look for the girl who I like and who likes me.
But I get the point of not ghosting. I just don’t get what it gets you. I’ve been ghosted. I’ve ghosted. That last talk didn’t change anything more than the last call going to voicemail and we didn’t speak again.
That’s my experience though. I lived as a man whore for many a year, so the idea that people you date are replaceable until you find the one is my train of thought.
[–]T_biologic 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A simple good bye is better than nothing. It helps others move on. Even if it doesn’t work out you still had something at one point. Even if it was just a little something, it was something. A mere text, saying good bye is better than nothing. Thank you, Good bye.
[–]IAmCalhoun 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I can respect that. Different stroke for different folks. Once you decide I’m not it, I’m cool only speaking if we see each other in Publix. That random, awkward eye contact is the best.

[–]Snakehead004 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I agree but why call it "girly" and make so many gender generalizations? It's a bitch move for a man or woman. It's not respectful or mature but why drag women down in the process? It's this mentality that brings about the shitty side of feminism...
[–]Minute-Lie-2287[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
You're not wrong. For women I just view it as their prerogative. Theyve got safety, feelings, whatever to worry about. So I guess I feel like they have more right?
Or maybe I just expect avoiding confrontation from them...idk?

Nah I think general decency is the social contract we all sign when swiping right.. Or at least after meeting irl or lengthy convo

In my case, girls move on quickly to the next guy so i personally don't need explanations. We both have our own assumption of things. And i just find it easier to move on with out having to explain my self or require an explanation either. Ghosting is def a bad habit but it does save you emotional energy.
[–]Minute-Lie-2287[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I could see that but that sounds more like things just naturally tapering to a halt than it does ghosting.
[–]powersv2 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just been Ghosted after 9 months. I'd rather him have told me rather than me trying to figure out what's going on. Much harder for me to move on. Thanks dick.
[–]elliottrackhe 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Did he ghost you after 9 months of dating? Do you know if he’s ok, as in feeling well or even alive? A little known thing is that deeply depressed people can ghost you and everyone else they know (social withdrawal).
Otherwise, if you know he’s moved on but just didn’t want to tell you, then consider it a blessing you have such a prick out of your life, and know that it’s extremely rare for anyone (man or woman) to do this to someone after dating them for 9 months. So don’t lose hope in humanity, you unfortunately just met a rare POS.
[–]rayvin4000 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ghost is a great movie.
The ending with Patrick Swayze and Demi Morre gets me every time.
[–]theseoulplayer 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Ghosting is the preferable move when safety or security become a concern. I've had more than a couple of girls make threats that they seemed quite able and willing to follow through with. At that point, the best thing you can do is block them and never respond. Anything you do or say after a threat is made will only work against you. You might call me a bitch, but when it comes to girls threatening to show up with a knife, file frivolous lawsuits, make false police claims, and the like, I personally think it's best to just cut your losses and peace out.

True that, can't feed crazy and if we get drawn into that kind of drama we're more than likely to be the ones in trouble one way or another. Can't say I've ever been given that treatment before expressing my disinterest though.

Peoples feelings are complex and ambiguous. If there was an easy way to not ghost matches, be honest, and not hurt peoples feelings then maybe. But there really isn't. Plus, until I meet you in real life there really should be no reason to not just trail off a conversation that is going nowhere..
That's reasonable. Level of investment is always a consideration. I wouldn't even consider it ghosting if there's not some level of investment on both ends.
[–]br0wnhippy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
As someone who ghosts men & women, I finally realize it IS feminine behavior.
[–]GordonGecko69 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Cmon man. There’s no honor amongst thieves. If you about that life and are using game to get in a girl’s pants, becoming self righteous at the end does not change anything. You don’t get points because you dropped her the “right” way. If you don’t have the stones to do it right. Do it how you do it. Better to rip the band-aid off than let that ish linger because you can’t sew things up.
[–]stanthemilkman88 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In a world where people behave like adults and have mature conversations, confront and solve their problems whenever they arise, yes ghosting would seem like such a silly thing to do and would be a big red flag, since that reveals the level of investment your SO has put into the relationship which is very low. But in today's world, where women's ego are ballooning, why would I waste my time on someone who is not willing to reciprocate the level of energy I'm putting into them?
See my last reply to Theriverofdyx....that's why IME

I'm fine with someone ghosting me if we only went on a date or two or hooked up once or something, but I've been ghosted by women I was full-on dating for months, with no explanation. That's just childish.
Yup. And with that mentality you'll be happily alone with nothing owed to anyone.

Unfortunately, this generation is the entitled generation . Desensitized generation. No compassion no empathy. It’s so sad! The way people justify “ghosting” very different world we live in now. The “I don’t owe you anything” attitude seems to be the way of the world. I guess people aren’t capable of handling situations like mature adults. In many situations, one person will have a totally different perception of that relationship. If you’re not interested in pursuing a relationship, just tell that individual (that’s for any relationship).
[–]MeandMyPelvicfloor 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As advice for men.... Women are flaky we all know we all understand. I never knew a respectable guy growing up that just ghosted out of any situation. They all at least say f u I quit. Didn't just leave at lunch never come back.
[–]welpnah1999 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Nah, there are flakey men as well as flaky women. Just gotta know how to keep an interesting conversation. As well as choosing the right people dude. But in either circumstances, no means no, if it is someone not responding, they don't owe you anything.
[–]c4993 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
“Owe owe owe” its such a lean for entitled douchebags with no accountability
If you like making the world a shittier place that’s on you, but thousands of people ghosting one person and each thinking they’re the only one doing it is a big part of a lot of neglect-turned-violent issues facing us today, and people being brought up/encouraged to ghost while the suicide and shooting numbers keep steadily rising is no coincidence
So yeah, fuck people like you dude
[–]welpnah1999 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So you're saying that it's people who ghosted others that caused shootings? Not the shooters being f*ucked up individuals?
[–]c4993 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Contributing factors that no one takes any responsibility for because they aren’t entitled to because no one is 100% directly responsible for it happening. It’s easy to blame the individual without accounting for the sickness and build up that can be systemically and socially contributed over years or decades without the person even realizing what’s happening. It’s never just “one person ghosting” it’s usually a lot for people with which this is a real problem. Even a simple “here’s why I’m ghosting you: you’re ugly” can do wonders compared to making the person stew on what they might have done wrong. I don’t like how people are being brought up and encouraged to ghost when that sets a dangerous precedent
I’m not asking people to be someone’s psychiatrist but damn even a little nudge helps and it’s not hard.
I’m also mostly only applying this to when you’ve been talking to someone for a while and not just casual shit. If it’s been less than maybe like a month it’s not ghosting to me unless I guess you’ve been talking constantly for weeks. I probably should’ve clarified that.
[–]Goku-m 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Environment (society) can make the most sane individuals crazy or seem crazy. You act like people are born school shooters. Ghosting can definitely be a contributing factor although a small one
[–]Minute-Lie-2287[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You really can't even fathom the viewpoint of it's not a good thing for you to do. You're so hyperfocused on taking it as if it's someone doing it to you.
So for more clarity
Women do it to you=ok
Men do it= only if you want to act like a woman
Imo

[–]Goku-m 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup being a decent human and taking the extra time to show compassion usually is a “waste of time” for someone that doesn’t care. You could use that precious time to watch another Netflix show, or another YouTube video. Please it was never about wasting time it’s comes down to selfishness.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I know you're coming from a perspective of self-ownership and that's a great thing to develop.
Also, don't you have any friends? You don't owe anything to random people, but it should be pretty easy to think of social connections where you do build a mutual commitment to each other.
It happens in dating too. Ending that commitment with a simple "This isn't going to work out" or whatever is the respectful and assertive way to do it.
[–]welpnah1999 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Building a friendship is great. Building a relationship is fantastic. I don't expect a response out of those relationships though. I've gone months without talking to my good friends. When we start talking again it's as if no time has passed. When I go to visit my family for a week or so, I don't Expect replies from my partner of 2+ years. The main thing with this is that No One in my life owes me anything. I give my friendship freely, which means that I don't expect a thing from anyone else.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's all great, but you're exaggerating greatly. Or you're a fully enlightened Buddhist monk.
Are you seriously trying to tell me you don't have any expectations? If your partner disappeared for six months, you wouldn't have any feelings about that at all? And you'd just welcome her back no-questions-asked when she returned?
It's great that you're not treating relationship as tit-for-tat transactions, but no expectations at all? I highly doubt that. If you were in a bind and your entire social circle blew you off, you wouldnt be even a tiny bit disappointed? If that's actually true, you're one in a million. The rest of us are nowhere near that zen.

I don’t think ghosting applies to y’all fuckboys, more for the people that have been talking for a while and they vanish. It’s wasted time and no lesson learned for them and a person left to stew over what they might’ve done wrong…it could fuck them up

Interesting topic. OP does have point. Although, did see another comment where someone's saying that since girls would do the same, why bother treating them anything different? Can see the point there, treat people the exact same way they treat you.
[–]AssistanceMedical951 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But that’s projecting. That’s treating all women like a woman who would ghost you. Do you like to be compared to awful men and have women say “screw them they’re just like all the other fuckbois”?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Of course, I see your point. The problem with that is, there's a significant amount of anti-men rhetoric that goes on. Although, fair point, fairly taken.
[–]big_clout -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Personally Im fine with it. I do it too.
If nothing's going to happen and one or more parties seem to lose interest, skip the pleasantries, stop wasting time and move on.
If you get ghosted, then you shouldnt take it personally. It wasn't meant to be and it just saves you time to pursue someone else or something else.
[–]uglyandIknowit1234 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Are you a woman posting this as a man so you hope men will change their behaviour? Because I don’t think its related to gender. People ghost because they have too much options and are being rude. When people get too much attention they will automatically see others especially ugly people as below them and not worth reacting to. Sometimes its impossible because of the sheer volume and will not be worthwhile, most of the time its just a combination of arrogance, maybe disgust and laziness imo. They have nothing to lose by doing it, but they lose time if they need to take the effort to reply.

She’d do the same, why give your heart out so early? Be as selective as she is. Cut the rope to the bridge at the first sign she starts swinging to cut her rope.
Follow people’s intentions
[–]Minute-Lie-2287[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I follow your logic....but personally I'd feel petty trying to beat her to it.
One of the hottest girls I ever hooked up with was a damn cover girl for a low production but nationwide magazine most people would know the name of.
She was playing little bullshit games and I was like " I'm trying to get know you here but if you're not interested I'm not going to waste my time"
Two messages later she asked me out.
[–]TheRiverOfDyx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, you prepped for a swing when she was messing with rope on the post. Untying it rather than chopping it. She was playing games, doing fuckery to the rope. No deal, so you readied for a swing - you communicated you’d cut it off. This scared her away from “ruining such a good thing” when she was fucking you about, and she stopped. She was gonna lose an option, and that happening is not an option to them, the option can’t just leave. Who does this man think he is? …it’s all bullshit mind games.
Adapt to it, watch how people operate to strangers there’s even mind games there too in a sincere conversation because the mind games will be internal for the person, and their self concept, not based on others. It will deal more with their own confidence and self assuredness than a mental sparring with another. Though you can see when becomes an ego battle between two, now it’s an external mind game between people instead of one’s own self-concept.
Watch and catalogue people, there’s only so many archetypal personality traits of people at their foundation and these build into created little buds and flowers of nuance. But the roots are similar or the same.
Game people, bruh. The only important one here is you, all the regrets you’ll have in life will be made worth it once your life is worth living when you’re older. When you’ve built your kingdom in this little slice of Hell we call Earth
[–]Goku-m 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Sounds like you’re reacting to someone else’s behavior instead of behaving your own fucking way independent of how others behave towards you. Basically you’re a bitch/puppet
Love it
[–]TheRiverOfDyx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
If people are cutting you off, cut them off first. If you can see an iceberg coming your way, move out of the way. This isn’t a hard concept. Live your life for only you, filter through who you want. You don’t even need to interact with the person for a long time, if they show signs of not wanting to interact but they say how much they enjoy interacting, they’re just tryna keep you around.
Why waste your time? It’s more hassle free, and you become more selective of who you hang around. Not an asshole move in the slightest, it’s just having basic respect for yourself.
If you see the doors of the train are already almost closed, why rush to it? Wait for the next train, give up on this one. “Ohhh but the train’s feelings might be hurt I let go so easily because it’s doors were closed”. Yeah, that’s its problem, not yours. Worry about your feelings, not someone elses. ESPECIALLY when they disregarded yours first and jacked you around like a dog adopted solely for a day at a carnival, then set loose to the streets after it served it’s purpose.
Stop wasting time on people who were never gonna waste their time on you, and simply wanted the attention. Being nicer to them despite the fact only serves to detriment yourself by foregoing basic self respect
[–]Goku-m 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
I’m not saying not to cut them off I’m saying cut them off like a decent human would, and to your example of an easy to understand “concept” you really can’t compare a potential loss of life to getting your feelings hurt, even if it seems that way to some.
[–]TheRiverOfDyx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
To the ego, it’s a loss of life. That’s why it hurts so much to be rejected. It can’t distinguish between mortal injury and emotional injury. In a way, it’s similar. At least to the mind. It’s still pain that the mind is trying to avoid.
I was definitely not talking about a figurative comparison but I guess that’s where spirituality comes in, or inner game. How big of an ego someone has, how accepting they are of their circumstances. To not accept is to suffer. I can only imagine how much it hurts for narcissist or other co-dependent personality types.

Blah! A bunch of bullshit. You’re posturing.
A high value member of the dating scene (regardless of gender) who is in demand will have tons of people wanting their attention from all directions. If you take the time to write out thoughtful and polite responses to everyone you don’t want to see again, you will have no time left for the things YOU want in life because you’re giving all your time to what other people want.

[–]letsgetrandy 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Responding to someone gives them every reason to believe they have your attention — and they do! Many will continue to try to change your mind. Some will even argue. Your time gets monopolized by people other than yourself.
Who said anything about "responding"?
The point is to tell someone when you're breaking things off instead hiding from them for weeks until they figure it out in their own.
[–]letsgetrandy 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Who’s hiding? You just tap “block” and go on with your life. No further effort needs to be wasted.
The fact that there's a handy technological tool to help you hide doesn't change the fact that you're intentionally dodging an awkward conversation instead of being direct with her so that she can quickly move on with her life too.

Lol. I get your point OP, but really more often than not it was because I had completely lost interest, already moved on, and didn’t think it was worth the time or conversation.
I don’t owe anyone anything, and they don’t owe me. I’m looking for the one woman I want to keep. Unless there is a professional reason to stay in touch, why do I need to talk to someone who is a non factor just so they can feel better?
I guess it makes me whatever.

Meh, for the purpose of seduction I'm just saying it can help minimize loss if you confront issues instead of bailing.
Lost interest, eh, personally I try to stay polite.

Ghosting in what situation? Im not gonna explain why I ghosted a girl when I have to do that to 200+ girls. Too much effort for what
Mainly if youre just avoiding bringing up something you didn't like to someone you're seeing.
Also I see a lot of " should I just give up" posts. I'm like nah, if you're concerned enough to ask that question here, you should have no issue just telling her what's up instead of running away. You probably already lost anyhow, what are you scared of that point?

I hate to do this but I’m going to see if I can pull off ghosting this 41M pastor. He would text me every single day. But, after date #2, he texted me to let him know if I made it home ok and I told him I got home and he hasn’t texted me for the past 2 days now at all. I’m crushed but hoping to slowly fade out of his life at this point. I know this is bad but I don’t want to confront him right now. My heart is so broken and I will probably break down over this. 💔❤️🩹
