Not that this is permissable, but social media (especially Instagram) is kind of dominated by women. So what were you really expecting to find? I got into a Facebook discussion which turned into multiple fat ugly feminists with shit for brains calling me trash. I never spoke in even a remotely insulting way. The post was a share from a woman who was sexually assaulted posting about her horrible experience and then saying “men are trash” at the end. Facebook removed the post and suspended her for a time period because the “men are trash” got flagged as hate speech.

What i said was “should victims of sexual assault or other violent crimes get a pass to speak however they wish about the identity group that belongs to the person who attacked them, or, should we treat men with separate standards from other identity groups?” I was told men should be treated differently, that I was ignoring the sexual assault component (even though my point was saying, should being the victim of such crimes give privilege to be excised from “hate speech”) that I was trash for suggesting as much, and when someone said men are more protected on Facebook than women, I asked for examples of this being the case.

At least 3 people called me trash. One demanded money for her “labor” of googling and cherry picking articles which supported her position. One of them actually said they literally believed white men should not be treated equally to others, and when I called them out on not supporting the 14th amendment they scoffed at me.

The best part...?

I’ve literally run stem events in the Middle East which were historic, more co-ed than almost any other events held in the gulf coast countries. I have been to segregated women’s only campuses in the Middle East, worked with female engineering students in multiple gulf coast countries, and personally awarded the WISE female engineer award to one of the women participated. (Women In Science & Enfineering).

But yeah.... I’m an awful white male, who hates women.

Self-selection bias comes into play in these things and even google searches. Most men don't care what others think. I don't think most men are sitting around googling things or hashtagging things, whereas women are very much more likely to do this. In addition the type of person likely to attack men on these things is also more likely to tag, hashtag, or google search these types of things.

The rest of us don't care and go on with our lives. You're finding the results of self-selection bias from a select group of internet users.
