around me, it is a 5ft10 stoner dude who is into a sport, cheer one team sport or two, play some type of a bit competitive vidya, go out a bit, mostly hang out with the same dudes since he is in high school, he is between a 4 or a 6, depending on if the girl is interested or not lol, go through dry spell and mostly have 5 gf and 5 hookups (fwb or ons, mostly relationship who never panned out) during his lifetime, make 40k to 60k, have a dad bod as 22, learn how to style just before his first "serious job" etc etc etc etc lol

To understand women’s ideas of average you need to understand their idea of “choice.” Men are happy to go to a bar and leave with a 10, women want to go to a bar full of 10s and pick their favorite 10 of all the 10s. When they say a man is average it means datable but not perfect.

Depends on which "average" you're referring to.

If it's the median average, it's the "middle" of every guy in the group, which could be around the average but not exactly. The modal average is the most common type of guy, which is also going to be around the average. The mean average is probably what everyone refers to when they mean "average," so take all of the average numbers and put them together. That will give you a picture of "the average man," which is around 5'9", average build (maybe slightly overweight or "skinny-fat"), and "uncanny valley" features.

It's easy to be above average, but it's hard to stand out.

You're bascially my age, so personally I'm focusing on my education and my career. I think that is the best way for any man to stand out. Especially these days where men are starting to be less educated than women, a well educated/successful man is of higher value in society. Do it for yourself, live a kickass life. You don't just want to be winning with women, you want to be winning at life.

Since the question is about looks, I think you have two averages - one is the actual average of all men (perhaps within a certain age and location), and the other is "averagely attractive". Averagely attractive is something that falls perfectly between ugly and attractive, regardless if in the group observed a greater number of men are below average. I think that's usually what we mean.

If you mean it in more general sense, it also often means the most stereotypical representative of a certain group, physically and mentally. An average guy can be a bald dude who is into sports, beer and never read a book. But it can also be a typical "philosopher" with messy hair who always just discovered Hesse. Or, a typical geek who uses English phrases way too much and loves Star Wars, comics and cosplaying. It can also be a guy with long hair, Iron Maiden shirt and a guitar who will shit on you for liking Metallica because it's commercial. As soon as you realise that you know his patterns, you know what he has to like, hate, support, be against etc, you know you're talking to someone average.

Ah guy going 5 times to the gym, is serious about his diet and nutrition, max 12-15% bodyfat, clearly visible abs, also confident because of this, but normal face > avarage guy in the eyes of women.

A girl going 3 times to the gym, nutrition is somewhat healthy but is slacking 2-3 times a week, no visible abs but her body is ok, the butt is little bit rounder, the stomach has only a small bulge > deserves a model tier guy because she is going into the gym right?

I don't think anyone means "average" in a strict mathematical sense or in any way that can be quantified, really. It's just "average" in the sense that there's nothing remarkable about the person, i.e. nothing that makes them stand out. They're not rich or famous or exceptionally talented or smart. They don't look like a model. They go to work for 40 hours per week and then come home and watch TV.

The essence of it can't be boiled down to just one physical feature. You might say "I'm average because I'm 5'8"", but there are guys out there who are 6'2" but still viewed as average. One trait doesn't separate you from the pack unless you're in the absolute statistical stratosphere.

Moreover, everyone's definition of "average" in this loose, non-mathematical sense is shaped differently based on their background and social circle. It's inherently impossible to reconcile your idea of average with other people's ideas of it. "Not remarkable" or "doesn't stand out" is as precise as we can get.

There is no average guy. There are average attributes. But if you were to take the average of every attribute and put it on one guy...that guy is probably a very unique creature lmao.

But I get what you mean so I'll play along and say what I think the life of an average dude is imo in the social circles I run in.

College

He's anywhere from 5'7 to 6ft tall. He loves talking about and analyzing sports and drinking with his buds. He went to college, got ok grades, maybe a degree in business. He goes out with his mates, drinks fairly often, works out occasionally somewhat consistently, but not seriously. He isn't a wimp, but he's not that strong. Maybe he can bench his bodyweight and squat/deadlift like 1.5x it. He's a lil chubby, but not really fat. He's not a model, but he has hair and his face isn't like crooked or anything. He's not the kindest guy in the world, but he isn't a jackass. Generally speaking he does the right thing. He's probably had a handful of girlfriends, maybe 1 hot one most of them pretty average looking.

After College

His life starts to suck a little bit. He has all this debt and no one is taking him seriously or giving him a shot. His dating life and career are in limbo. He is at one of the lowest points in his life.

1-2years later.

He has an ok job, maybe anywhere from 50-70k. He will likely top out at 100k a decade or two down the line. Life is pretty neat. He hasn't made it by any means, he's not in love with his job or anything but he is proud of what he has accomplished. He puts in his time and has fun on the weekend or every other weekend. One weekend with his mates, he meets a girl. They have a good time they have fun together and he thinks she is great. They have semi-frequently and laugh together. A few years later, they get married.

After marriage.

The excitement and happiness they had together as a couple dies down a lot. They don't hate each other and the bedroom is not dead by any means. But, both of them seem to not put as much effort in as they used to. Neither have been hitting the gym as much as they were, which is saying a lot because even when they were they weren't really lmao. They both put on comfort weight and lose some muscle. Life has stabilized. Neither feels like they are progressing or regressing in their life.

Best Case Average: Maybe they have sex a couple times a month if they're lucky. They still love each other and all that, it's just kind of stale.

Worst Case Average: Dead bedroom, they grow to resent each other, they get a divorce and get financially fucked and also feel like they wasted years of their life.

Solution? Focus on increasing your SMV as much as possible in your youth. Never ever let yourself go. Fitness, health, and appearance are massive not just for sex/relationships but everything in life. Focus on your career while you can afford to focus on it, not when you are juggling a million shit in middle age. In some aspect of your life, even if it is fucking finger painting, try to be the absolute best you can be at it. Ideally it is your career/sidegig/sport/hobby like singing/dancing etc, something useful in your life internally, socially, or economically. Don't waste your 20s on a relationship...The second your girlfriend starts getting lazy on you or showing signs of wanting sex wayyy less than she used to, leave. It will only get worse. Ex: she never dresses up on dates anymore, yoga pants everyday, doesn't care if you see her doing embarrassing stuff, doesn't really compliment you anymore, jokes about you to friends...

This was so shit I'm so sorry to anyone who read this lmao, but I think this is the most average scenario for people I know that I think are average. It's not a terrible life but def not what I want lmao.

I think it's referring to a state of mind when it comes to internet lingo for most people. A way to say that one is part of the dissatisfied unremarkable masses no matter the actual specifics. I sometime label myself average even though if I go by specific metrics I am quite above in most of them.

First off, understand that those are anomalies. Most average men are single or virgins in LTRs with attractive but high mileage women who have a lot a psychological problems and usually have nothing to offer other than looks. Trust me, dont envy these men.

Secondly, these women are cheating on them. The guy provides money and emotional validation. But she isn't having sex with him. In fact, she actually doesn't like them at all. They are pretending.

"Average" involves a bunch of metrics and measurements, but the sum total of these things doesn't determine who you'll be able to date. They may factor in, but there's obviously more to it than that. A guy could be average in most ways, but be very driven to be successful. So when you "see an average guy with a beautiful woman," are you sure what you see is an average guy? Or is he just what you perceive to be an average guy?
