And with the decline in these relationships and sex we see a rise in loneliness which is ultimately not good for society or individuals. I think being hyper focused on sex rather than on companionship causes a lot of society’s current dating woes and ironically has led to less people being sexually active. That is when society was more sexually conservative more people were having sex (rather than just seeing it everywhere) and were less lonely.

Men and women seem to be more focused on sex these days meanwhile they don’t have anyone to live with or spend quality time with. Single person households are on the rise in major cities they make up 40% of households. I think the pain of loneliness is underestimated because people don’t know how to solve that issue and they don’t want to admit to needing other people (it’s a pride thing) our culture is also very individualistic. But it has been shown that loneliness has many negative effects on mental and physical health, of course living alone does not automatically equal being lonely but it does increase risk of social isolation especially if one doesn’t have many friends or family close by. If you are single and living alone it’s important to maintain your friendships and family relationships. When it comes to romance I think more focus on compatibility and less on sex is the best approach.
