I'm in the age group, and am very put off by the modern woman's idea of a 'housewife' that consists of hanging around playing candy crush and doing the bare minimum, I am in love with the idea of a traditional homemaker in the same breath though.

If she treats the management of our household like a real job it's perfect, not just cooking/cleaning, but balancing the finances and dealing with appointments and so on, currently I have to take a sick day just to go to the bank.

I had the same arrangement with my previous SO, I don't mind working my ass off and making all the money as long as I don't have to pay the bills and someone's always excited to see me when I get home, nothing is worse than coming home after a long day to an empty house and a mountain of chores.

Surveying highschoolers is a pretty stupid thing to do, they know nothing of real life.

Not to mention surveys can say one thing but reality will say another. If you give a survey to someone asking whether they support some PC measurement they will say yes, even if when push comes to shove they don't agree. Just like all the polls about Trump were wrong.

Men may like the idea of an extra income, but end of the day they like a supportive wife ready with dinner when they come home, not a wife that is working late and is tired and frustrated when she comes home.

Of course this varies. If a family is struggling to pay the late fees and just got their car repoed, a man will get frustrated with a wife that is just sitting at home doing nothing.

When women entered the labor market they effectively increased the supply substantially, thereby driving down the cost of labor. I'd argue this is a big part of why millennials have flat wages and less buying power when compared to their boomer parents/grandparents did. On top of that, when you do have kids you're paying someone else to take care of them, so the dual income phenomenon isn't really as great when everything is said and done.

The traditional family unit allows for greater efficiency. One focuses on matters within the home the other focuses on matters outside the home. We went from having efficient specialists to having generalists who don't excel at either. Plus when people make an argument for duel incomes it seems like it's often less about necessity and more about being able to buy more shit or to "have a career"....most interesting part of this is that a lot of it is done in the name of equality/feminism yet studies have found that women are continually becoming less happy since the 70's (while men are more happy).

In terms of the increased trend of millennials preferring a traditional family unit, I'm not surprised considering we're a generation that suffered through more divorced parent situations than any generation before us.

Men and women evolved over millions of years to be complimentary to each other and to specialize in certain tasks, this constant pressure to become androgynous generalists can only hurt us

Honestly I don't think a "stay at home wife" unless the husband has a GOOD job is practical in today's world. I think a "stay at home mom" is way more practical. Not always doable but practical. I hope I can be one when I have kids.

My fiancé loves the idea. I may be a college student but that's only because there's a lot of value in a college education and that helps provide more opportunities. However, I am going to be a homemaker when I am done. It's only because I am traditional and that's what I was taught. Honestly, I think men are happiest having the women of their lives taking care of them and giving them love and affection. A true man shouldn't be threatened by a woman that wants to work though. I agree with Kojima_Ergo_Sum that if the woman agrees to be a housewife, she shouldn't be lazy and playing candy crush all day. Me personally, I can't wait until we're both out of college and married. I will happily cook and clean for my guy and have dinner made when he comes home. This is something I am looking forward to and excited about, but everyone is different

I was born in 1980 so I'm just slightly out of the target age but I'm young at heart.

My wife is a stay at home mom. I asked her to stay home. Sometimes she feels guilty about not making money and i tell her it's not something she needs to worry about. We have one little boy who is 15 months old. I take a huge amount of pride from the fact that my wife stays home with him. It makes me proud to know that I'm able to support us with my single income and I don't know how you can put a price on the peace of mind I get from knowing that my little boy isn't being raised by strangers who will never love him as much as mommy does. I've never seen her happier.

I flat out told her that my goal is for her to only have two things in life to worry about. Raise our little boy and make an effort to look pretty. Anything she does beyond that just makes her amazing in my view. I manage our finances.

I don't make a lot of money. It's just enough to pay our bills, have some fun, and still be able to set some aside for retirement planning. We live small these days in order to make it work and we have zero debt. My wife is a certified medical assistant. She could easily be employed and make more than enough to cover day care and still have plenty left over.

I had a hard time finding a man who wanted to settle down with a woman who has no career aspirations. Before I met my husband I worked at a checkout because it was compulsory. I have never wanted a career and I have no education past high school. I didn't do well at high school and I hated every moment of it. My goal was always to find a man, settle down, get pregnant and quit my job. I would get very patronising comments from men like "I want a woman who is strong and independent" or "I think women can be more than wives and mothers" or "I want a woman who is intelligent and educated". It's needless to say that most of my dates went nowhere fast. I ruled out men who were not clean cut and who drank regularly, or who were unemployed. I think most of the men interested in me were in those categories. I'm also quite homely looking. A lot of the women on here have mentioned that they are hot, I'm sure that helps a bit. I have always been kind of pudgy and sorry looking and a lot of men have complained about my voice. Apparently I talk like a retard. In the end I met a vitenamese man who was interested. He had been raised by his mother who stayed at home and thought nothing of it. I would advise any woman who is struggling to seek men outside of Western culture. Although I refused to date black.men or men who were too big or too macho. I'm not trying to be racist but I found them physically intimidating. I grew up around a lot of domestic violence and I didn't want that to be me.

As a man, I hate the modern housewife perception. They spend their day exercising, getting coffee, getting their hair done,...its bullshit.

I would be all for a wife who acts like the household manager. Not only cooks and cleans but manages everything else too. Appointments, oil changes on the cars, taxes, managing my rental properties and other investments, kids activities, planning vacations....and all I have to do is focus on my career and excel as much as possible. And I come home to a nice home and a well run family.

I'm 32 (technically a millennial but my values more resemble Gen-X). I'd be happy with a working wife until we had children. From birth until the kid goes to school I'd prefer that she be a stay at home mom. While the kid is at school I'd be fine if she worked.

If she was always gonna be a stay at home mom then I'd have some pretty old-school expectations: house mostly clean, dinner ready sometime shortly after I got home, etc.

because we look back to our grade school days, and i can tell you sharply, the kids who stayed for "after-care" ended up as losers. school gets out at 2 or 3, kid has to stay because parents are at work.

it's not just this... it's the mounting studies that say a parent who takes off two solid years for their child's initial infancy massively improves that kid's life. the more time parents have for their kids, and actually instill not-shitty-behavior is huge.

i absolutely want an SAHM wife. i just don't want her to be a fucking cunt who is going to divorce me and take my kids away.

I guess the definition of "Millennials" changed, because I swore the last batch graduated last year". But anyway,

As a millennial myself, I pray that I find a husband who understands and supports the idea that I stay home (and I'd like to homeschool). SAHW? I don't know about that. But if it happens, I guess that's okay. I was thinking I'd quit in the middle of my pregnancy. I have met a few millennial guys who are in total favor of wives being a stay-at-home-mom, but that stems from the fact that they had a SAHM.
