Is it psychopath or sociopath? I’m never fully certain of the proper usage.

Wow so much misinformation in the comments.

The only difference is in the names, which came from different psychiatric backgrounds.

In the scientific (psychiatric) community, they are considered the same thing. But for some reason, people on the internet like to think there’s some difference or grade of mental instability that makes you one or the other.

Talk to ANY REAL PROFESSIONAL in the field and they will tell you that they are the same thing, just referred to one or the other depending on the context of the conversation.

I know it’s a disappointing answer, but look it up on Wikipedia or ask a trained professional.

Source: worked in the field.

[–]NotAllThere_67 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Was going to say this myself. I'm no expert, but all the profs in the few psych classes I took in university said the same thing. In the field, there's no meaningful distinction.

[–]hotbox4u 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Psychopathy and sociopathy are different cultural labels applied to the diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder. Up to 3 percent of the population may qualify for a diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder. This disorder is more common among males and mostly seen in people with an alcohol or substance abuse problem, or in forensic settings such as prisons.

Psychopaths tend to be more manipulative, can be seen by others as more charming, lead a semblance of a normal life, and minimize risk in criminal activities. Sociopaths tend to be more erratic, rage-prone, and unable to lead as much of a normal life. When sociopaths engage in criminal activity, they tend to do so in a reckless manner without regard to consequences.

[–][deleted] 44 points45 points46 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

They overlap at parts.

But this is the (base idea) how I remember the main differences - more or less.

A psychopath is someone who has parts of their brain that are missing/damaged/whatever you want to call it when it comes to things like morality and whatnot. Simply put, they can be someone who doesn't realize what they are doing is wrong.

A sociopath is someone who is developed and compelled toward certain actions/behaviors because of things like their environment/upbringing and so forth.

Again, both concepts have elements that overlap and can be interchangeable, but these are the general ideas for me.

[–]prstele01 41 points42 points43 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In the psychiatric community, they are considered the same thing.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's the confusing part for me.

However, I know one does have the distinction of one person having a conscious and the other being out of tune with theirs. As a result, one can kill someone and realize it's wrong, but the other person can kill someone without thinking anything about it morally.

They are both in the anti-social personality disorder spectrum.

The psychopath tends to be the fuck up of the group. They can't learn from their mistakes and sooner or later they implode and either end up in jail or destroy any relationships.

Sociopaths are better able to blend in. They may do bad things but they are better able to get away with them.

https://www.healthyplace.com/personality-disorders/psychopath/psychopath-vs-sociopath-what-s-the-difference

About 4% of the US population fall somewhere on this spectrum. Their preferred occupations are medicine, law enforcement, politics, or business executive.

They make up 20% of the prison population and commit 50% of the violent crime. Despite this we aren't doing anything to detect and or treat these people while they are young.

That may be because so many are in government already.

[–]Cagg 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

TLDR; All psychopaths are sociopaths but sociopaths are not necessarily psychopaths. "Psychopath" is a more severe version of sociopath.

A sociopath is actually a person with antisocial personality disorder. There is no official "psychopath" diagnosis in the DSM, but usually when people refer to psychopaths it's a bit of a step above sociopathy in that as opposed to sociopaths who would potentially feel some guilt if they hurt or cheated a loved one a psychopath does not have any bonds and maybe the inability to form them.

Sociopath Diagnostic criteria:

Repeated violations of the law

Pervasive lying and deception

Physical aggressiveness

Reckless disregard for safety of self or others

Consistent irresponsibility in work and family environments

Lack of remorse

psychopath guideline

Lack of guilt/remorse

Lack of empathy

Lack of deep emotional attachments

Narcissism

Superficial charm

Dishonesty

Manipulativeness

Reckless risk-taking

So informally a guy who is constantly getting into fights and dealing drugs and in and out of county jail and showing no remorse is a sociopath, a serial killer is a psychopath, but also someone very high up like a CEO might be a psychopath as they are in control of their outward image manipulating the perception of themselves by the law and others

[–]MikeFromLunch 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I hope there are way more requirements because i fit almost all of those

[–]Cagg 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There is those are basic guidelines here's the full DSM V and DSM VI listing, but its not as simple as reading a book a licensed practioner of psychology is best.

DSM-5

The essential features of a personality disorder are impairments in personality (self and interpersonal) functioning and the presence of pathological personality traits. To diagnose antisocial personality disorder, the following criteria must be met:[53]

A. Significant impairments in personality functioning manifest by:

  1. Impairments in self functioning (a or b): a.Identity: Ego-centrism; self-esteem derived from personal gain, power, or pleasure. b.Self-direction: Goal-setting based on personal gratification; absence of prosocial internal standards associated with failure to conform to lawful or culturally normative ethical behavior. AND

  2. Impairments in interpersonal functioning (a or b): a. Empathy: Lack of concern for feelings, needs, or suffering of others; lack of remorse after hurting or mistreating another. b. Intimacy: Incapacity for mutually intimate relationships, as exploitation is a primary means of relating to others, including by deceit and coercion; use of dominance or intimidation to control others. B. Pathological personality traits in the following domains:

  3. Antagonism, characterized by: a. Manipulativeness: Frequent use of subterfuge to influence or control others; use of seduction, charm, glibness, or ingratiation to achieve one's ends. b. Deceitfulness: Dishonesty and fraudulence; misrepresentation of self; embellishment or fabrication when relating events. c. Callousness: Lack of concern for feelings or problems of others; lack of guilt or remorse about the negative or harmful effects of one's actions on others; aggression; sadism. d. Hostility: Persistent or frequent angry feelings; anger or irritability in response to minor slights and insults; mean, nasty, or vengeful behavior.

  4. Disinhibition, characterized by: a. Irresponsibility: Disregard for – and failure to honor – financial and other obligations or commitments; lack of respect for – and lack of follow through on agreements and promises. b. Impulsivity: Acting on the spur of the moment in response to immediate stimuli; acting on a momentary basis without a plan or consideration of outcomes; difficulty establishing and following plans. c. Risk taking: Engagement in dangerous, risky, and potentially self-damaging activities, unnecessarily and without regard for consequences; boredom proneness and thoughtless initiation of activities to counter boredom; lack of concern for one's limitations and denial of the reality of personal danger. C. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual's personality trait expression are relatively stable across time and consistent across situations.

D. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual's personality trait expression are not better understood as normative for the individual's developmental stage or sociocultural environment.

E. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual's personality trait expression are not solely due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., severe head trauma).

F. The individual is at least age 18 years.

Antisocial personality disorder falls under the dramatic/erratic cluster of personality disorders, "Cluster B."

DSM VI TR(TextRevision)

The APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition, text revision (DSM IV-TR) defines antisocial personality disorder as:[40]

A) A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others, occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three or more of the following: failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest; deception, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure; impulsivity or failure to plan ahead; irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults; reckless disregard for safety of self or others; consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations; lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another. B) The individual is at least 18 years old. C) There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years. D) The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or a manic episode.

If you are still concerned, visit a licensed psychologist.

A lot of people who study psychology at Uni start self-diagnosing themselves with stuff all the time its a weird thing that happens to a lot of people. source

[–]AberforthBrixby 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sociopath means that you lack empathy, ie you're not able to properly understand emotions or emotional situations. Emotional behaviour in other people is confusing and things that should make you feel happy or sad don't really make you feel much of anything at all. Moral concepts aren't intrinsically meaningful as nothing "feels" good or bad.

Psychopaths are people who are driven to perform malicious acts for a variety of reasons (power, lust, etc). Generally, psychopaths are also sociopaths, which allows them to commit terrible atrocities without any kind of empathic response to the pain of their victims.

So in short, all psychopaths are generally sociopaths, but not all sociopaths are psychopaths.

Patrick Bateman is an example of a sociopathic psychopath. His emptiness (sociopathy) drives him to commit terrible acts (psychopathy) in the hopes that they might make him feel something.

[–]bonezybad -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Which ironically would make her a psychopath, but not a sociopath... She performed a malicious act (probably for power and because of lust, love, whatever) and because she felt one or more of these things, she would not be a Sociopath.

Realistically, she's probably neither. We're not doctors lol.

[–]AberforthBrixby -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd say that it would put her firmly in sociopathic territory. A normal person would be able to look at this situation and understand how emotionally devastating it would be to the victim to lose this kind of opportunity

In her mind though, she probably thought she was doing him a favor. "His relationship with me is his best opportunity". The idea that he has independent passions or that what she's doing is "evil" probably doesn't register with her or even cross her mind.

You're right though. Not doctors ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]yourteam 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A sociopath is someone using others for gains. He knows empathy and uses it to understand people and use them.

A psychopath is someone that is barely human: has no emotions nor emphathy and will reach his goals without even considering what he/ she did to others.

[–]DrQuezel 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A sociopath is a psychopath that is still able to feel certain levels of empathy and emotion although far less then the normal person to make it easier to get where a psychopath would be able to shoot someone get explained why its wrong and not care a sociopath could shoot someone be explained why its bad and has the potential to feel remorse

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They both are disassociated from their emotions but sociopaths act on impulse and psychopaths tend to plan their actions.

[–]AwareSwimming1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

One enjoys doing harm, the other just doesn't feel empathy

[–]ELTepes 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not the difference at all. Both are outdated terms but when they were in use by experts:

Sociopath. Psychos have no control. Socios do crazy things, but are in control.

[–]MalmoRapinRefugee -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sociopath can be criminal but can be non violent. Lacks any empathy. Psycho revels in others misery , typically violent.

Technically speaking sociopath is a colloquial term that has no scientific meaning. So she is a psychopath.

[–]rebellionmarch -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Psychopath is raging emotionally fuelled.

Sociopath is emotionally disconnected from their actions.

Like opposite sides of a coin.

[+]mechathatcher1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

A psychopath sort of implies you suffer from or psychosis or psychotic episodes. Like auditory and visual hallucinations.

I think a sociapth is just a wanker.

But I'm not a psychologist, as you can tell by how many times autocorrect had kicked in over the last 4 sentences.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

There's no official medical definition of either disorder and both are currently diagnosed under narcissistic personality disorder.

Generally though. Psychopaths are missing or have damaged a part of their brain that causes them to have no sympathy but they are incredibly good at mimicking sympathy when it benefits them.

For example John wayne gacy. AFAIK his brain wasn't examined to see if he was a psycho but he had a wife and kids that he cared about. Yet he raped and killed kids in Chicago and buried them under the kitchen floorboards of his families home.

Sociopaths usually have rough upbringings, struggle with drugs and usually have behavioral issues all throughout school etc. They develop an inability to empathize and are also great at hiding it but they're not typically as convincing and charismatic as a psychopath.

Edit: as /u/Nezsy pointed out both are now diagnosed as ASPD not as narcissistic personality disorder as I put in the above.

[–]Nezsy 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They’re both now labeled under antisocial personality disorder, not narcissistic.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahh. Great. Thanks for the correction mate! I'll fix it.

[–]mechathatcher 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Would it be completely simplistic of us to summerize that psychopath = nature and sociopath = nurture?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It would be but that's the general consensus.

Psychopaths can have brain injuries that cause it too. I dealt with a lot of people like this growing up and one of them was diagnosed with NPD and ASPD and was definitely a psychopath.

He wasn't always like that though. We were skateboarding one day and he wrecked and hit the back of his head super badly. No helmet or anything. He was dazed for a long ass time. I talked to him the next day at school and he was just out of it. After that he was much much more wreckless and did a lot of risky shit. He also manipulated his friends and girlfriends (hence why I've distanced myself from him) which he never did before.

I'm not a psychiatrist or anything but he was legitimately diagnosed by one and I saw his behavior change first hand after a head trauma like that.

So its not totally nature but in most situations it is.

Sociopath isnt a word anymore. It's always psychopath now

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I believe a psychopath doesn’t know what she’s doing is wrong. A sociopath knows what she’s doing is wrong but does it anyway.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sociopath is someone who doesn't know the difference between right and wrong... Basically a lack of conscience. Psychopaths are generally detached from reality

[–]iTimDrake -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From what I remember being told

Psychopath - The first word is psycho so you are just crazy and it’s easy to tell.

Sociopath- The first word is socio (social) so you are crazy but understand how society works and “mold” yourself to fit in.

Serial killers are usually sociopaths. In that they are charming and lure in their victims.

Psychopath would be more along the lines of someone who doesn’t really have charm they just come across as crazy from the get go.

Turned off my adblock to save you a click:

A McGill University music student who impersonated her clarinetist boyfriend on the internet to sabotage his career and prevent him from moving away from her apartment in Montreal has been ordered to pay him $375,000 in compensation.

A judge has found this “despicable interference” in the boyfriend’s musical career was a deep betrayal that robbed him of “a unique and prestigious educational opportunity, one that would have advanced his career as a professional clarinetist.”

Jennifer Jooyeon Lee and Eric Abramovitz met at McGill’s Schulich School of Music in September 2013 and started a romantic relationship almost right away. By October, he lived in her apartment, and trusted her so much that he let her use his laptop, and gave her his passwords.

Both were accomplished musicians, she in flute, he in clarinet, for which he had won several competitions and been featured on CBC Radio 2.

That winter, Abramovitz applied to finish his degree under Yehuda Gilad, a top professor of clarinet at Colburn School in Los Angeles, part of the University of Southern California. This was a career goal for Abramovitz, to learn from the best, and after flying with his parents to L.A. to audition for one of just two spots, he was told to expect an answer by April 1, 2014.

I knew that something underhanded was afoot

As it turned out, Abramovitz won the spot, and a full scholarship to study with Gilad. School officials emailed him to say so, but Lee intercepted the email. Posing as Abramovitz, she wrote back to decline the offer, saying he would be “elsewhere.” Then she deleted the offer email.

Abramovitz would likely have eventually followed up with the school, not having heard anything himself. But there was another step in Lee’s deception. She created a fake email account in the name of the famous clarinet professor — [email protected] — to send a new fake offer email, purportedly from the professor.

“In this fake email, Ms. Lee wrote that Mr. Abramovitz had not been accepted at Colburn,” the judge wrote in his decision. Instead, the email offered him a different spot at USC under Gilad’s direction, but with only a modest scholarship of $5,000. Abramovitz would still have to pay fees of about $46,000, plus living expenses, which Lee knew he could not afford.

“She apparently did these things so that Mr. Abramovitz would not leave Montreal, and instead would stay in Montreal and remain in his relationship with her,” Judge David Corbett of Ontario Superior Court ruled.

Abramovitz was “completely taken in by this deception,” the judge found. He accepted the missed opportunity, finished his bachelor’s degree at McGill, and eventually took a less prestigious graduate certificate at USC, in which he had some interaction with Gilad, about an hour a week, but far less than he would have had under his original scholarship.

Professor Yehuda Gilad YouTube Gilad swore an affidavit in support of Abramovitz’s case, explaining how Abramovitz’s career path was disrupted. After getting a position in Nashville, Abramovitz has recently taken a position with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

“I am certain that had Eric not been robbed of his opportunity to study with me two years earlier, he could already have won an audition and been commanding this respectable salary two years earlier,” Gilad said in an affidavit. “I am very frustrated that a highly talented musician like Eric was the victim of such an unthinkable, immoral act that delayed his progress and advancement as an up-and-coming young musician and delayed his embarking on a most promising career.”

In an interview, Abramovitz explained how he discovered the ruse months later, long after his relationship with Lee ended in September 2014 for unrelated reasons.

It was at his second audition before Gilad, in which they had a brief and strange interaction, when Gilad said, “Why did you reject me?”

It was a fair question. As Abramovitz put it, “You don’t reject him.” But having done nothing of the sort, Abramovitz asked in return, “Why did you reject me?”

They could not sort it out then and there, but over time, the wonder lingered. Another student of Gilad’s asked him about it. Eventually, Abramovitz forwarded the fake email to Gilad, who replied: “I’ve never seen that in my life.”

“That’s when I knew that something underhanded was afoot,” Abramovitz said. One day in 2015, he and a friend set about trying to gain access to the fake email account, and because Abramovitz and Lee once shared a computer, he knew one of her passwords, which he tried.

“Miraculously, it logged right in,” he said. Her email was listed as the recovery email, her phone was the recovery phone. “We felt like Sherlock Holmes.”

Abramovitz also said she did a similar thing involving fake emails with his successful application to the Juilliard School in New York, causing him to decline it.

He said he is not certain he will be able to collect his damages, as he does not know where she is and she has blocked him on social media.

Lee could not be reached. She did not appear at the proceeding that led to this default judgment against her. Much of the ruling is taken up with the judge’s decision on why the case was properly heard in Ontario, Lee’s primary residence, and not Quebec.

The damages she must pay him are for “loss of educational opportunity and loss of income caused by redirection of Mr. Abramovitz’s career resulting from Ms. Lee’s wrongful conduct,” the judge wrote. Ambramovitz also sued for loss of reputation, and although the judge decided there was some, he decided his scathing ruling would more or less solve that problem by pointing out Abramovitz was found worthy of the opportunity to study with Gilad, and it was entirely Lee’s fault that he did not.

“Imagining how his life would have been different if he had studied for two years under Mr. Gilad, and earned his teacher’s respect and support, requires more speculation than the law permits. One hears, particularly in the arts, of the ‘big breaks’ that can launch a promising artist to a stratospheric career. I cannot speculate as to how high and how quickly Mr. Abramovitz’s career might have soared, but for the interference by Ms. Lee. But the law does recognize that the loss of a chance is a very real and compensable loss.”

I found out my ex was stalking me using basically the same method. I was with my ex for 6 years. She decided to cheat on me, I decided whatever I gotta focus on finishing up my degree so I try to move on.

I got my degree like 3 months later and I joined up on one of the online dating sites I can't remember which one. I wasn't having any luck at all and then one day I match up with this girl that's way above my league. I thought awesome! So we start chatting and she's really eager to talk to me....also kinda set off a flag for me for some reason.

So we chat for a couple days and I keep getting this weird vibe from her and I get paranoid and start thinking it's my ex. I don't know why that thought came to me, it just did. Anyway I decide to do something crazy. I try to log into the girl's account using the girl's username and like literally the only password my ex would ever use for anything. IT FUCKING WORKED.

I realized she had been stalking me and other things that had been happening to me started to make sense and she had been stalking me.

Pretty ridiculous. She cheated on me, then decides to stalk me.

Here is how it worked out for my roommate a few months ago:

Broke up with his girlfriend, they lived in an apartment that had previously been his. They moved out, she immediately collected and kept the deposit. He correctly stated that it was entirely his, she screamed at him until he left.

Then he moved into my apartment.

A few months went by. He got stupid enough to keep in contact.

They began seeing each other again. After a few weeks of her hanging out, sleeping over, one Saturday morning, while we were all having breakfast he brought up the possibility of her returning the deposit, since he had just gotten laid off from his job.

She blew up and left the house.

That night, at 1am the cops showed up. I answered the door, but they asked for him. Cuffed him in his boxers and dragged him out the door. Stated to me that "he'd been threatening and stalking his ex girlfriend."

Bullshit. She'd been at our house that morning entirely by her choice. I packed up clothes for him and took him to the local station, where I was told he'd been booked into county jail, and I couldn't send him anything.

Facts didn't matter. They could hold him 48 hours, and did. He got out on Monday. They released him in his boxers, no wallet, no keys, as arrested from his bed. Walked home in boxer shorts, about two miles.

No charges. No evidence. No real cause for arrest, his only crime was asking for money that was legally his.

He finally learned his lesson and stopped trying to get back together with her.

[–]Tauposaurus 55 points56 points57 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Meanwhile, one of my closest friends (a woman) has been stalked and threatened by her ex and the police have done nothing! He even posted a “tell all” about her on a slander website that shows up immediately beneath her LinkedIn when you search her name. Nothing. A police officer visited him recently after he’d sent my friend something in the mail (that could constitute harassment) and said she’d “be surprised if he contacted her again”. I dunno. These stories of women telling police about abusive ex’s and the police acting on no evidence seem far fetched to me. I’m legitimately afraid for my friend’s life. We live in Canada.

[–]Siganid 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Tell her to buy a gun.

Also, here is where a feminist would accuse you of whataboutism.

Instead, I am going to state that I agree that police do not do enough to protect victims of domestic violence. I am one, and I know first hand.

This all goes to show that only very naive, stupid children expect society to take care of them. Only you care about your safety, your health, and whatever else is important to you. Handing those off to some government agency is a personal failure.

Seek to reduce the amount that you depend on your government, that's the only way.

[–]dl4125 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

We live in Canada. I have my PAL (possession and acquisition license - to own an unrestricted firearm, for hunting) but I wouldn’t think for a second that a gun (especially a hunting rifle) would help her. How is it whataboutism pointing out that, in the majority of cases, the police would not protect the victim in the absence of concrete evidence? (I.e. an email from his main account that spells out that he intends to physically harm her)

I think it’s fair and right for us as a society to expect our government to protect us from those who unlawfully threaten our safety. We live in a privileged nation - this is one of those privileges. I suppose that’s where our opinions differ.

[–]Siganid 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You've said where you live. I'm trying not to feel sorry for you.

Yes, a hunting rifle is a terrible choice, choose better.

I don't think we'll agree here, you'll just keep insisting that serfdom is superior to self reliance, and I don't agree.

Have a good day anyway, please vote in your own country, and don't ask for help when your country's money laundering scheme reaches it's failure point and can't subsidize it's policies anymore.

[–]dl4125 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It’s not like we, in Canada (clearly not getting the point), can walk in and buy a handgun - that requires a restricted license on top of the unrestricted license (required to purchase a rifle, etc), which amounts to over 20 hours of class time. Plus, if she were caught with a handgun and was not en route to a shooting range, she would be fined and have her license removed. Your solution of telling her to “carry a gun” is absurd.

I can agree that we will not agree on this matter. Take care.

[–]Siganid 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I understand very clearly that your human rights have been violated.

The fact that you very likely voted against your own rights doesn't escape me either.

The consequences of gun control are always higher rates of violent crime, including murder. You chose that, and blaming it on cops is rather silly.

Take care.

So in the States it works like this: hire a lawyer, they research ssn and potential bank accounts, they find either where they work or bank, you pay a nominal fee and some paperwork and start garnishing. If he's smart he'll find a good collection firm and let them do the leg work while taking a cut.

[–]Mussoltini 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Do you not know how the legal system works? He got a judgment. Now he has to enforce it - there are different ways that it can be enforced. All he has to do is hire a skip tracer to find her.

It would be the same for dude getting a default judgment against him.

[–]Siganid -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No. I don't.

Please explain how hiring a skip tracer will magically make her pay up?

[–]Mussoltini 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

You find her (or any judgment debtor) and serve them with a notice of examination in aid of execution.

Obviously she will not show up to the examination so you would get a certificate Iof non-attendance.

Then you would bring a motion to compel her attendance at another examination.

If she does not show up for that one, you can bring a motion to have her held in contempt of court with remedies which include a warrant for her arrest to force her attendance before the court as well as longer periods of incarceration.

If you actually examine her, you have free reign to discover any and all information that could be relevant to paying the judgment. So if you found out she owned any substantial property, say a car for example, you could have a writ of seizure and sale issued and the “sheriff” (some police officer) will attend to posses the vehicle. It will then be sold and some of the money will go to the police and the rest will towards your judgment (unless there are many judgment creditors. In that case, unless you have a priority interest, you will have to share the proceeds from the liquidation of the judgment debtor’s assets with all other creditors (pari passu)).

[–]Siganid -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Now let's see what happens in this case.

[–]Mussoltini 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I am also very skeptical that she won't at some point simply accuse him of rape and be encircled by a herd of white knights who see her as oppressed.

I'll admit to being jaded.

[–]Mussoltini 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Possibly but that is irrelevant to enforcing a judgment of the court. The only real options are to appeal or bring a motion to set aside (if she meets the legal test). Even if she was successful, he should request that the Court order her to pay the money into court before she can make any other submissions to the court.

It really sucks for those of us who do have true feminist values, ie; feminism meaning equality and not the “I must hold doors open for the poor oppressed women” or the “men are shitbags and scum” views that get tossed around quite a lot these days as “feminism”.

I always wish I was born a decade or two earlier, before the PC culture came in. I already have the moral barometer to treat people right, but now you can’t have fun as well.

Any and all feminist can fuck right off. There is no true feminists I have come across. The name it self is a joke, you want equality between genders call it something that reflects that. If you didn't know what feminism was and had to guess what it meant it wouldn't be equality between genders.

And feminists are 2 faced. They say one thing but it's the complete opposite. They say they are oppressed, I'm looking around and seems to me men are oppressed. We are demonized at work, home, school, public, on the road, even fucking getting groceries. Women say we live in a patriarchy, bs, we live in a matriarchy society. Men are getting fucked in court, in social issues, at work, and with their families.

How long before men say fuck it and things turn violent? If men can't get justice in the courts they will get it by vigilantes.

"Feminism" is a stupid term. It should be like "gender equality campaigner" or something.

I'm a "feminist" in terms of wanting the world to be gender blind, but I'm never gonna say that one gender needs additional help or rights just because they're that particular gender. Because that's got another word for it: "sexist".

When you beat a horse long enough it will rear it's head and make a run for it. I'm not advocating for violence but I'm giving you food for thought. How long are men going to take this shit and how long before they suddenly say enough is enough.

What will it take to get people to realize the bullshit going on around us, false rape accusations, calling men perverts, creepy, useless, raping them in court taking their money, car, house, monthly payments, child support, throwing them in jail if they can't. Child custody? What about male work place deaths? Suicide rates? Homeless shelters? How about help for men in abusive relationships? How about in general appreciating men and celebrating all they do? How many women plan anniversaries? How many women get their man flowers on Valentines day? Father's day? Women all cry that it should be about them too. All the shitty hard labor jobs they work that society forgets about? Garbage collection, construction, climbing up huge towers and shit or down to the middle of the earth. Boy scouts? Ruined. All male spaces are being invaded. Even gyms and other places are telling men that there are women only hours but they don't get the same men only hours. Hypocrite much?

Men don't feel appreciated anymore. We feel like fucking walking ATM machines that at any second can be thrown in jail over a lie and have their lives ruined.

I don't know what you think slavery or second class citizens look like, but let me know what other criteria we need to meet to get there. This isn't a pity party, this is real life issues that men and boys are facing. We shouldn't feel like criminals for existing.

This is pretty much what I was saying just more extreme. I will say that in my 28 years I have not faced anything as bad as you’re taking about. But I have definitely felt the PC culture change everything.

Perhaps things aren’t as bad in the UK (presuming you live elsewhere). Still, things have gone too far the other way.

[–]Pie_021 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm in the US and it's getting pretty bad. I stopped doing anything at college and got tired of hearing about girls who constantly did stupid shit and wanted to blame other's for their stupidity. Even at work now I am super cautious about women, a friend of mine was threatened over a dating app that she would accuse him of rape because he wouldn't go on a date with her. Just over stupid shit. A lot of guys I know are fed up with women's bullshit and complete lack accountability and responsibility.

[–]baronben666 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I am so very confused by all this"

Yeah, Ive noticed a fairly large group of people read a post but read it angry because of a triggering subject. Then all reason and nuance is out the window, like the whole left / right utter bullshit going on.

Fear is posion, blind anger is the side effect.

Lot of these men make really valid and compelling points but shroud it in hostility and aggression.

Shooting themselves in the foot as the opposite side just switch off, pretty normal reaction when your feeling attacked or mocked,

If they actually hope to bring a new understanding to society about the injustice against men , which I sincerely hope they do, they would serve themselves well by treating the opposition with a modicum of social respect.

I personally find politeness contagious and rewarding. I'm into dignity.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thankfully no-one actually called me that, I think me using that term is actually detrimental to my point but the person attacking me was literally going to take absolutely anything I said and reword it to say I was against him and could “fuck off”.

I’m not “part of the problem” when I’m saying the same thing as you but with a lot more patience and actual thought.

Yeah music is something I've been doing my whole life, and I think a passion is created when you can express emotion through a physical object that other people can see and understand. [–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Uh no, almost everyone in the english speaking Western world knows that "White person" and "White people" refers to people from around Europe, regardless of their actual skin colour. It isn't meant to be a 100% scientifically correct term based on the empirically observed hue of people's skin, it's just a convention we have developed to refer to different races.

[–]Jehetma_Dominion 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're reaching with this, this is what Americans think (Americans think giving guns to teachers is a good idea so honestly the world doesn't really care what America thinks) and not what Europeans think.

"White people" refers to people from around Europe, regardless of their actual skin colour.

So a black european is white?

I might be ignorant but I'm not a wall when recieving arguments.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TL;DR Asians are diverse as fuck.

Asians have skin tones from super light (northern Chinese and Koreans) to more tan (Vietnam, Japan, some Malay people) to dark (Indians, most Philippinos)

Then you have countries like Pakistan or Indonesia or Afghanistan that have super light skinned and dark skinned people.

Races are distinguished by skull shape more than any other characteristic. Like a lot of terms in this area, definitions have become more muddled for the sake of feelings in the last 20 years or so but, if you remove yourself from that, there are 3 races - white, asian, and black. Before you call me names, at least take the time to do some googling.

[–]mechathatcher1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Asians have completely different eyelids I can tell you that much. I've never actually scalped one and examined the skull.

[–]DrPoopNstuff -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

The genetic difference between races is like .03%. Skull shape has nothing to do with jack shit. Go measure skulls in Auschwitz, Nazi!

[–]FancypantsButtercups -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

There is a similar variation between a Mastiff and a German Shepard but that doesn't mean the veterinarian goose steps to work. You have any sources to support your claim regarding the irrelevance of skull shape? Because I can provide thousands that refute said claim. Ever pick up an anthropology textbook? Tell me more about the Nazis that claimed germans and jews are of the same race because that is the contention of the source I provided.

Your entire comment history is name calling and low-end dick jokes. Nazi seems to be one of your favorites. There isn't a single line of thoughtful discourse in the entire canon. Who are you to pass judgement on anyone?

[–]DrPoopNstuff 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I pass judgement on nazis and idiots alike. (Usually they’re one and the same!) Skull size or shape is irrelevant to racial genetics. It was literally used by the Nazis to justify the inferiority of Jews. It’s not science, it’s racist horseshit.

[–]FancypantsButtercups 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

No, it literally wasn't, as they have the same skull size and shape. As there is no difference between the two it cannot be used to suggest the superiority or inferiority of either. Similar arguments have been made to suggest that blacks are inferior but I'm not making those arguments and the fact that shitty arguments have been made using good data doesn't taint the data, only the shitty argument.
The Attorney General from the previous administration once said that we are a nation of cowards in part because "we, average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about things racial.” Fuckers like you are why. You don't actually read what people write, you don't check the sources provided, and you don't do any research or thinking on your own. You just take something you vaguely remember some other cunt saying and paraphrase it for the sake of pointing a finger at somebody who is having an honest conversation. You add nothing and everyone who interacts with you comes away with less.

[–]DrPoopNstuff 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Go F*** yourself. Your “science” is shit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Stop trying to re-enforce your pseudo-science amerimutt. Just because you aren't really white doesn't mean you have to make yourself "superior"

[–]FancypantsButtercups 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Not sure what to tell you. Maybe try rereading what I wrote? The best I can offer for my own heritage is half Alabama hillbilly and half Michigan hillbilly. I suppose mutt is fair but a careful reading will reveal that I have made no claims of racial superiority on behalf of any group. I'm not sure how that factors into your analysis but it looks like race is pretty much the only topic you ever care to speak on so I'll be interested to hear.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Again, you are stating false facts that puts one race above the other, discrimination, racism. Simple as.

[–]DrPoopNstuff -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Idiot.

[–]FancypantsButtercups 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is nothing evil or hateful about my answer. How can you be offended by something so basic as a correct answer to somebody's question? What answer would you prefer? There is no such thing as race, it's a social construct? Should I have confused race with ethnicity and said 5,000? Those answers are incorrect.

He's not talking about phrenology. He's talking about the three early migration groups of humans which became known somewhat anachronistically as caucazoid (european), mongoloid (asian), and negroid (african). It's basic physical anthropology you learn in high school.

[–]iCodeGamesIn5Minutes1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe you can tell me, because fancypants says he's a little naiive on the subject. What about: hawaiins? Or, indians, middle easterns, italians and mexicans and the spanish are they all europeans as well?

What about the turks and jews? Or the gypsies? the more i thought about it the more i thought this "3 groups of humans" thing was too limiting for me. I think there has to be more to this than 3.

[–]iCodeGamesIn5Minutes1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link

Huh, interesting. 3 is kind of limiting no? What about polynesians like hawaiins? Or, indians, middle easterns, italians and Spaniards?

[–]youhavenoideatard 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some of those places are in this place called Asia. Some are in this place called Africa. And a couple in this place called Europe.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ukraine? Wtf? This is geography news to me.

FYI, 90%+ of Russia’s population lives in the European side.

It’s like saying that US is Asia when we had the Philippines.

[–]iCodeGamesIn5Minutes1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Woops, not ukraine. But yeah that's basically supporting my point. It's silly to categorize someone by region, and the other two by color. Because of the reasons you stated, but others as well.

These are the asian countries: Afghanistan Armenia Azerbaijan Bahrain Bangladesh Bhutan Brunei Cambodia Cyprus Georgia India Indonesia Iran Iraq Israel Japan Jordan Kazakhstan Kuwait Kyrgyzstan Laos Lebanon Malaysia Maldives Mongolia Myanmar (formerly Burma) Nepal North Korea Oman Pakistan Palestine Philippines Qatar Russia Saudi Arabia Singapore South Korea Sri Lanka Syria Taiwan Tajikistan Thailand Timor-Leste Turkey Turkmenistan United Arab Emirates (UAE) Uzbekistan Vietnam Yemen China

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On a high level, Asian can be broken down into a few easy groups: Middle Eastern, South Asian, Central Asian, and East Asian.

It’s gets more complicated where these lines overlap.

[–]FancypantsButtercups -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm just a layman on the topic, this has some details sorting that out.

[–]iCodeGamesIn5Minutes1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Ah, he doesn't really mention egyptians, isrealites, either. Guess he doesn't want to touch on the subject yet.

ALthough my opinion of this, is that I think there needs to be more scientific support for a lot of the stuff hes presented. I never found any articles on google that aren't pushing some sort of narrative - on other side.

Do you have any articles that are less opinionated and just states more facts / scientific papers?

[–]FancypantsButtercups 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I went looking I'd just have to muddle through google searches, same as you. An anthropology textbook is probably your best bet.

[–]FancypantsButtercups 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ah, he doesn't really mention egyptians, isrealites, either.

Semites, they're in there.

[–]iCodeGamesIn5Minutes1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, but he kind of separates them under a white. Do you really think jews and middle easterns are white?

And Moari are asians? These guys are asians? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI851yJUQQw I don't know if this is the complete picture... i think we're missing something here.

[–]FancypantsButtercups 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Compare it to bears.

They are all bears

Some are brown bears(akin to a race)

You would never mistake a Grizzly for a Syrian brown bear but they're both brown bears.

You wouldn't mistake a black person for an asian person nor a polar bear for a black bear but we're all humans and they're all bears. It's all pretty trivial but as long as we all spend so much time talking about race, it's helpful to at least know what a race is.

do you guys think this really fits this sub's description, i mean is there a situation where you imagine this happening to some guy and then he confronts his significant other about it and she says 'well i'm a girl! i get to do things like this!' and then the guy says under his breath 'insufferable pussy pass, curse you and your inequality'

oh wait no none of that makes any sense you're all just braindead ogres
