Brilliantly put. I think a lot of the attempts to silence/shut down advocacy for men are tied to the idea that it will prevent resources from being put into helping women.

Once again I have to say it: Hanna Rosin is on the side of MRAs, not against them. She titled her well known book 'The end of Men' to draw attention but the book itself is about how society is hurting men.

She was pretty clear about that in her reddit AMA, where she indicated that she thought men did need a movement analogous to feminism to challenge the societal problems that disproportionately impact them.

Just because she disagrees (on basis of STD transmission rates that are not statistically relevant in western countries) with our position on circumcision doesn't make her the enemy at all times.

For example, of juveniles reporting staff sexual misconduct, 89 percent were boys reporting abuse by a female staff member. In total, inmates reported an astronomical 900,000 incidents of sexual abuse.

Don't forget though, these instances were not rape because the boys were "ambivalent about their own desires". Thanks, Mary Koss!

Does male rape deserve more attention? Yes! Should it be a feminist vs MRA debate? No! For fucks sake it doesn't matter who is getting raped let's just fight against the rapists not each other.

This is misleading. What's happening is that men are now more likely to define being sexually assaulted as rape... we still don't know the relative percentages of men or women being sexually assaulted. When men start consistently defining women forcing them to have sex as rape, likely that number will skyrocket again. And if it's at 38% now...

This is a remarkable change but most likely it's just the beginning.

In a few years the sheer scope of female sexual predation of men and boys will take our breath away and we will look back at the efforts to conceal it by feminists as crimes against humanity.

No one will be able to say we live in a "patriarchy" with a straight face.

David Hume would disagree but the sentiment expressed in this quote from the director of the study is admirable.

We need people to realize that it isn't the Oppression Olympics and everyone can suffer in various ways and that it isn't a choice between "address X's problems" or "address Y's problems". We can address EVERYONE's problems.

For years, the FBI defined forcible rape, for data collecting purposes, as “the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.” ...Finally, in 2012, the FBI revised its definition and focused on penetration, with no mention of female (or force).

So before 2012, according to the FBI, a man could not be "forcibly raped?" I must be misunderstanding, or else this is the most alarming and perplexing fact I've ever learned from this subreddit.

Hmm.

The study referred to in the article is paywalled, but according to the linked National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, lifetime prevalence of sexual violence in general, and forcible rape specifically is far higher for women. The one mostly-equal category I could find is "Other sexual violence" over the past 12 months, which includes:

being made to penetrate
sexual coercion
unwanted sexual contact
non-contact unwanted sexual experiences

It's odd that the numbers are so different for lifetime and so similar for past 12 months. I doubt that there's been an exponential increase in sexual violence against men in the past year.

One possible explanation could be a small subgroup of men who are vastly more vulnerable to sexual violence. If the same 5% of men were assaulted every year, then the last 12 month rate would be 5% (similar to women), and the lifetime rate would also be 5% (far lower than women). GLBTQ men might fit that role, as they're always at risk of sexual violence perpetrated by bigots, as well as the tendency of some straight women to get drunk and aggressively "seduce" gay men, in ways that would be considered blatant sexual assault if a straight man was acting in the same way toward an uninterested woman.

Unfortunately, I don't see any of the linked stats broken down by sexuality, so this is all just conjecture.
