My SO wears skirts all the time and I LOVE him in them! His are all ankle length and plain black. Very sexy with his t-shirts and combat boots. He won't wear kilts, though, because he doesn't like showing off his knees. He also wears sarongs when the mood strikes. Strictly about comfort for him and not a "statement" about anything at all. he just likes his junk to swing free.

A few months ago, he decided to say "fuck it" and wear a skirt to work. To say it was well-received would be an understatement. The gals swooned and the guys commended him on his schutzpah. From that day on, he wore a skirt to work once or twice per week. It got to where the skirts went virtually unnoticed by most of his coworkers. But then last week a notice went out that "Skirts and blouses are to be worn by women only". Well, shit...

Fortunately, he now works from home so wears skirts (or anything he wants) whenever he feels like it.

This article says that pants became commonplace because of horses.

We no longer ride horses, so there's no longer a reason to wear pants exclusively.

Here in Seattle we have Men in Kilts cleaning company. Apparently they experience a lot of sexual harassment from women.

There was a post a few months ago about a guy who wore a kilt to a party. He said that a lot of girls came up to him and actually lifted it up to peak underneath. Haha, all in good fun, right? Now imagine the genders reversed.

i don't know if this means anything but i lived in seattle for a bit and saw many dudes rockin' utilikilts. i think they're kind of neat.

swift edit: i also saw many men in seattle wearing regular skirts. struck me as unusual at first because it's not something you see often but never bothered me because who cares.

I have worn them before. It did not lead to any direct harassment but alot of people did not like it. Everyone will assume you are gay (I am bi). I am a big proponent of men wearing skirts. No one questions the symbolic of women wearing pants.

I also wear a kaftan in the summer (only at home, anti-muslim (and anything that has to do with them) sentiment is sadly fairly strong where I live).

I own a long, black skirt for Halloween and for jokes, I must say, it is remarkably comfortable. It feels considerably less restrictive, in the summer, it allows airflow and in the winter, it can keep warmth in. I get disapproving looks when I wear it (for a joke/dare/bet), but I don't really give a shit.

Some people have gone so far as to heckle me about it. I generally just shoot them the bird or command that they mind their own damn business.

my son wears long t shirtsand calls them dresses, he loves pink and purple, i am going to make him some awesome pink and purple kilts, he looks great in "girls colours" and "girl fitted clothes", if it makes him happy why not.

i still get attacked by my family about "making him gay" by letting him play with "girls toys" and pick flowers, they are still stuck in the nineties i guess, but being himself and not being ashamed of what he likes is encouraged.

I would wear a skirt. But it has to be suitable for the things I choose to do on a daily basis, and most women's skirts are not. I wear hawaiian shirts any chance I get, because I like the style, fabric, and design, so it's not about women's clothing being too colorful or flowery or so forth. If I wear a skirt it needs to be as strong as my pants, fit properly (and not restrict movement), affordable (I will never pay more than $20 for a pair of pants), and it would help if it didn't make my ass look fatter than it is (so the cut has to be tailored for a man's body, with respect to how clothing drapes over men's genitals and hips).

I'd wear a kilt if I could find an affordable one that fit that criteria (utilikilts is the only one I know for sure aside from the price) but that's been next to impossible.

I think it should be acceptable in a casual context, where one would be allowed to wear whatever they want. I do not think it should be acceptable in, for instance, a workplace situation, where an (un)spoken dress code is applied.

Another thing to note is that a kilt would be much more socially acceptable than a skirt, because it suits the "masculine" look of clothing. A man wearing feminine clothing in general would get mocked by women, regardless of whether it's a skirt or a shirt.

If a man wants to wear a prom dress, I'm perfectly okay with it. I like the look of kilts now, which are the most commonly accepted form of "male skirts". Tried to talk my husband into wearing one (he's of Irish heritage, great figure, I thought it would look great) but he's hesitant. Maybe someday. :)

Honestly, I'd wonder what's the deal with you if you were a guy who wore a skirt or dress. Is this right? Maybe not, but gender conventions usually don't bother me too much, so I really don't care about this issue.

I like being a man and I want to feel like one in the way I dress and act. What you do is up to you, but people will probably treat you differently if you violate certain conventions. Personally, I don't think our conventions on clothing are a big deal, and as I said I even like them, but that's me. Some men may feel very strongly the other way about it and that is their right.

I'm not a dude, but all my friends think I'm a dude, so I can talk about my experiences in that way.

I've also never worn a skirt (I wore a kilt once, but this is Scotland so there isn't the shame around it), but I've had an experience involving other feminine items of clothing.

So I had my hair in a scrunchie, because that's my style, and I was at a friends house with some mates. And two of them just cannot get over the scrunchie, it made them really, really uncomfortable. I asked why, and they just told me that boys shouldn't wear that. Clearly this bit of gender-fuckery deeply disturbed their sensibilities.

Plus, everyone stares at me while I wear it, so there's that.

Edit: More on kilts though, since I'm in Scotland not only is it acceptable, it's accepted that a kilt is basically the manliest piece of clothing there is. Especially when you see someone in military kit with a kilt.

With reference to Scotland the Kilt (be it a dress kilt or historical style) is an exception rather than a rule.

A man in Scotland wearing a skirt would be in for the same stares and no doubt a fair bit of piss taking, either to their face or behind their backs as in most other places.

I would rather no one wears skirts. They're not really useful compared to other clothing. They don't keep you warm, the wind pushes them in all directions, they tear easily, etc. I never saw the point of anyone wearing them when you could have a good pair of pants.

In all honesty, no. I'm not saying it should be illegal for people to wear whatever they want, but I don't like the idea of everyone wearing the same exact thing.

Men and women are different. I greatly fear that there is a time coming where people will call for gender to have no play in anything. I don't want to have to walk down the street wondering if the person I'm walking behind is a man or a woman.

Men's rights is not about allowing men to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Feminism IS about allowing women to do whatever they want, whenever they want, no matter the consequences, and look where it got us. There are sensible traditional sex roles that result in a functioning society. These do not include men wearing skirts so they can get erections from the additional airflow and dwell on their sex appeal to inflate their fragile egos, like women do. You know why women wear skirts? Because it makes them feel horny/slutty and it gets them attention. Men who want to wear skirts do it for the same self-absorbed reasons. If you want to wear a skirt once in a while in the privacy of your bedroom (and I know I do) then do that, but don't expect society to embrace you wearing one in public just because you like attention and want to feel slutty. Might as well be a slutwalker if you're going to do that shit.

Down-vote away, clowns. I'm a guy and I wear a skirt once in a while, and the only reason to do it is to feel like a slut and get horny, to be self-absorbed about your own sex appeal. It's not healthy for men, and I sure as fuck don't want to see it in public because it looks repulsive.
