Hi Subscribers,

October is LGBT History Month, and we want to encourage our subscribers to branch out a little bit for 31 days.

It isn't a requirement, but here is what we thought we might do as an experiment: We are going to hold two competitions - a logo competition and a karma whoring competition. Hear us out.

Logo Competition:

For the next week, we will encourage people to create a logo that is LGBTQ themed. After this message, another will be posted as a Logo Competition thread. Anyone who wants to take a stab at creating a logo can post it as a reply. Voting will be done based on reply posts rather than upvotes, so if you like one of the logos, reply to the comment thread with something like "This" or "Vote" or whatever that makes your views clear. (Negatives will be ignored.)

At the end of the week, the logo with the most number of positive replies will be added as the r/MR logo for the month of October.

Karma Whoring Competition:

For a change, we are going to encourage people to karma whore. We want to get people to branch out and consider more than just the specific issues that affect them, and look at the broader aspects of rights in our society. But since this is the Men's Rights subreddit, we are looking for those issues where the rights of Men intersect with LGBT rights.

Kill_The_Rich has given us a list of possible topics that would qualify for this:

  • Homosexuals cannot donate blood.
  • Men can't marry men.
  • Many places won't let transwomen use the women's restroom.
  • Gay couples can't adopt (in many states/countries) and lack the requisite uterus (and its associated reproductive rights) to procreate.
  • Gay men in some other countries are put to death just for being gay.
  • The intolerance specifically for gay men, with greater social acceptance of gay women.
  • The gay male suicide rate being much higher.

This list is not complete. And posts don't have to be either critical or supportive - they can take any position you want, as long as the topic is on one related to LGBTQ and Men's Rights. We recognize that there are some issues where activists may go too far in supporting causes, and we also recognize the difficulties that many gay, bisexual, transsexual and/or queer men face. Both types of arguments are valid topics of discussion, since we support free speech.

At the end of the month, anyone who is participating can send a message to #MensRights with links to all of their threads on the topic (have to be submitted to r/MR), and the person with the highest combined karma for only those threads related to LGBTQ issues will win a Flair message (what the flair will say will be determined through discussion between AnnArchist, myself and the winner - we wouldn't just stick someone with something they don't like).

During this time, we encourage all people to remember Reddiquette - don't downvote things you simply disagree with, downvote things you feel don't add to the discussion!

Try to use this as an opportunity to branch out and explore a side of rights you may not have otherwise.

EDIT NOTE: There seems to be some confusion - posts do not have to be pro-LGBT, but can be critical of aspects of the LGBT movement. r/MensRights is a free speech subreddit, and we will not force members to take one side or the other.
