Animals are animals. Women do this to men too and I'm not even denying that men do it. I know we do it.

[–]AaM_S 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, I agree, women haven't moved too much outside of animal kingdom.
Edit: Men too, alas.

[–]TheNerdWonder 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, even a basic biological anthropology class will explain that these behaviors between the sexes isn't really misogynistic or misandristic. At least, not intentionally. The intention is so clearly for both to identify a biologically compatible mate to produce kids and continue the species.

[–]riverview_man 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But it's never a problem when women do it apparently

[–]hisoka1759 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahh the staring game, it's so easy for these hoes to say anyone creepy for that but they would themselves do it and expect the guy to give them attention or make first move

Once I was in a class, I noticed a girl was staring at me daily, Once I caught her thrice in 10 seconds but everytime I caught her, I just intimidated her with almost a death stare

That girl didn't had guts to stare at me after that

[–]BitingBalisong 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is why I bury my head in my phone between sets at the gym. I don't give people validation with my eyes, just for them to accuse me of some bs. It's a bait and switch tactic that I'm not going to fall into. Guess I'm lucky that I find people who dress like this to be repulsive so I'm more drawn to go to the other end of gym (or turn my back to them between sets) rather than stare.

I was at the gym today, and a person wearing yoga pants started leaning over doing dumbbell kickbacks, pushing her butt less than 2 feet away from me. So I just turned my back to her between sets and looked at my phone.

[+]Alternative_Swan4969 -13 points-12 points-11 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

i understand your point but you’re acting a little full of yourself… yes some people will try to get your attention, but not every girl wearing some yoga pants (gymwear..) and doing some exercise (what the gym is for) wants your “validation”

[–]redramsfan123 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

He never said they wanted his validation. He just said that it's annoying having someone else's butt in your face when you're trying to work out.

[+]Alternative_Swan4969 -10 points-9 points-8 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

that’s not how he put it

[–]redramsfan123 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is how he put it.

"I was at the gym today, and a person wearing yoga pants started leaning over doing dumbbell kickbacks, pushing her butt less than 2 feet away from me. So I just turned my back to her between sets and looked at my phone."

Her butt was very close to his face and he was clearly annoyed by this, hence why he turned away. He didn't say anything about her motivation for putting her butt in his face he just said how he reacted to her action.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

he insinuated she was intentionally doing it

[–]redramsfan123 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

And?

Even if that is true he still never implied nor said that she did it to get validation from him.

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Three hours in, and the score for this post stands at 3 and the comments number 70. Is that what they call a controversial post? LOL!

[–]TheSnesLord 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Totally different story if the guy staring was a handsome six-foot plus chad with a six-pac I would imagine.

[–]mikesteane 23 points24 points25 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She doesn't want to get stared at so she posts this on the Net. LOL.

[–]Clemicus 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]flowingwisdom13 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]YourPillsAintWorkin 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]keenonag 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If a guy wore that people would be staring.

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And yelling "faaaaag!"

[–]sgt_oddball_17 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (67 children) | Copy Link

Yes, that was rude of him.

Meanwhile, she wears outfits like that so that guys will not look at her arse.

"I hate it when guys sexually harass me. No, I keep saying that wrong. I hate it when ugly guys sexually harass me When a cute a guy does it, that's just flirting." Eliza Schlesinger

A popular style of yoga pants has ruching, which is diagonal elastic stitching designed to pull the seam as far into the arse/vulva crack as possible. Women like this because it feels comfortable.

she’s wearing athletic wear, what do you want her to wear a burka?

what do you want her to wear a burka?

Oh good, you're going to argue with what you image I said, not with what I actually said.

I said the guy was rude. It was my very first remark.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

i can read… what was the point of the second remark?

[–]sgt_oddball_17 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I was mocking her faux outrage.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

it’s ok to be outraged even if you knew something was going to happen. you can’t expect her to change for other people

[–]sgt_oddball_17 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

But you expect guy staring should change for other people?

I actually agree he should change and not be rude. The point of that question was to make a point . . .

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

yes that is exactly the point, changing not staring at peoples asses is not very hard, and if it is that person has a problem.

honestly my larger problem isn’t the ass staring like whatever it’s creepy but not the worst thing. my problem is people saying women ask for it or saying women have evil intentions by wearing literally athletic clothing

[–]MiddleReasonable647 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

My wife works out, but not in that kind of outfit. How about shorts?! It’s really simple but you gotta play the “pretend we don’t all see what we really see” game.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

the simple part is people should have freedom to wear whatever tf they want as long as it’s clothing and not offensive without being shamed by the same perverts wanting to lick their crack

[–]MiddleReasonable647 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

The simple part is that people have the right to look with their eyeballs anywhere they want to. My body my choice 😂

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

that’s just disrespectful, don’t use that argument. nobody said you can’t look somewhere bud. however if you’re looking, you better not be shaming and saying you’ll rape someone for the way they dress. i better never hear a single “slut” come out of your mouth, since you’re the one looking

[–]MiddleReasonable647 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Awfully aggressive reply when I did no such thing or advocated any such thing. Cut back on the steroids.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

yeah no you made a joke out of my body my choice

[–]damn_montana 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

sure. faux upset. and guess what. shorts exist. they are comfortable. women field hockey players wear shorts, women soccer players wear shorts, there are many other alternatives.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

leggings are comfortable too.

[–]damn_montana 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Yes. But the idea is we can’t control other but we can control ourselves. so what can we do, what’s something I can do that I’m in control of to avoid a situation I don’t want to happen

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

that’s just not fair to make someone change what they wear for creeps, the creeps need to do the changing

[–]damn_montana 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

what are you talking about. are you an idiot?

even with the person calling out the 'creep' for staring ( and I put creep in apostrophe because I would be staring at her intense wedgie too with disgust) they would be able to ogle even if she said don't. all the people in the gym could ogle even she said not to. what power does she have to not make them stare? oh I know, lets do the things we have in our power that we can control. like wear something else? it's a simple fix for a simple issue. and its only an issue to her. so she should fix her own problems not by policing others but by doing the things she can do

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

it’s not that hard to keep your eyes off someone’s “wedgie”

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Same thing most women wear at the gym -- stuff like this...

https://www.rebelsport.com.au/womens/clothing/active-wear

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

there are several athletic bras and short spandex shorts just on the first page

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

They are the exception. Mostly they are shirts, singlets, and regular shorts and you fucking know it.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

what’s the difference? you should be able to control yourself when someone’s showing two inches of skin

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I am not the subject of this post. Also, it's the tightness that is the problem, not the amount of skin. Seriously, you is DUMB!

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

so men can’t control themselves over some CLOTHED tits? alr

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like i said, you is dumb.

[–]lookafist 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

How about shorts and a t-shirt? That's what I wear and you can't see the outline of my genitals and ass crack...because I don't want those to be seen while I'm at the gym.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

first of all she doesn’t have a penis and if you’re calling a butt genitals, that’s reaching. breasts also serve functional purpose. they’re not some bouncy balls for you to fondle with

shorts and a t shirt are fine, but so is her outfit. unlike shorts and a t-shirt it provides more compression, supports and actually more coverage on her legs

[–]lookafist 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I...uh...is this a troll? It doesn't make any sense. Do you really not know that women also have genitals? What does the "functional purpose" of breasts (nursing infants) have to do with anything?

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it means they’re not to be sexualized without consent, im not trolling. yes women have genitals, cis womens genitals aren’t extruding though

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

if you’re calling a butt genitals

I don't think he is, which is why he mentions genitals AND ass crack. But you already knew that.

provides more compression

Like when your mother dropped you on your head when you were a baby, presumably.

[–]UnconventionalXY 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

It's as ludicrous making people looking at anything a crime as it is making it a crime for anything to emit/reflect photons.

If you don't want people to stare, don't draw attention to yourself.

Society has still not accepted that biology is an actual thing, that people are largely motivated by sexuality and putting men and women together will inevitably result in attraction and arousal, regardless if the participants are consciously aware of it.

I believe it is illegal and discriminatory to advertise a product that you have no intention of selling to certain people, yet women do this all the time and then complain about consumer enquiries and consumer anger, wanting the consumer to be punished. Sex sells.

Rude was invented by prude: it's time we abandoned such repressed behaviour and called a spade a spade.

[+]Ready_Inevitable2718 -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

No substantial group of people is advocating criminalizing ogling. People are just pointing out it is rude and creepy. You are fighting an imaginary enemy here.

Wearing tight fitting clothing is not advertizing a product. Certianly not in any legal sense. People having bodies is not permission for you to creepily stare at them.

[–]damn_montana 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

lol the idea of permission to use your eyes lol

creepily is subjective

I'd be staring too. have you seen the pictures? her yoga pants is squeezed into her ass like a big ass wedgie. I mean I do squats, that happens, I fix it. and people are bound to stare. gross

who gave her permission to include him in her video? that's probably the bigger violation here.

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Would you justify a punch with, "lol the idea of permission to use your hand lol"? Maybe just... don't be a pervert.

[–]EmirikolWoker 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Why are you equating looking at someone with a physical assault?

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It was an example of the flaws in his justification system. For example if i walked up to you and creepily sniffed you repeatedly, i could not then justify it by "you put on deoderant so you must have wanted it" or "imagine permission to use my nose lol" the guy was a creep and you justifying creeping on women makes you seem like a creep.

[–]EmirikolWoker 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Sniffing requires proximity, making it very personal. Looking is our primary way of perceiving the world, and doesn't violate ones' personal space.

So I'll ask again, why are you equating looking at someone with a physical assault, and now with up-close-and-personal space encroachment?

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Do you think looking can't be rude. Do you think looking can't be creepy. Do you think there are nit ways and circumstances where it isn't appropriate. What is your point here?

[–]EmirikolWoker 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What is your point here?

"So I'll ask again, why are you equating looking at someone with a physical assault, and now with up-close-and-personal space encroachment? "

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Staring at someone pervertedly, like encroaching on their personal space and physically assaulting them, is something you should not do to a person. And in none of these circumstances does it make sense to blame the person who is on the recieving end of the action.

[–]damn_montana 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Maybe just… ignore the things we can’t control and do the things we can control. We can’t control other people. We can however control the way we the dress or act

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Maybe we can both recognize that and hold people accountable. Maybe that's not an excuse for others to be creeps. And maybe, the fact that you would have this to say, while specifically not agreeing that the creep was at fault means you don't actually think that and are trying to justify creeping on women.

[–]damn_montana 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

1) you are assuming that his look/ and stare was meant to be taken creepily

2) you are attempting to police other people behavior so you can feel comfortable. by that logic I feel uncomfortable that you can't understand this concept so I will screenshot this and spread this on my instagram with a high following

3) the failure to accept that there are things out of our control that we cannot control. but we do have things in our control that we can control.

what we can do is control our own perception and our own feelings and our own actions not others

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Public indecincy is a crime. Public nudity is a crime. Public urination is a crime. As a society we do have a code of conduct. There are things you can and cannot do because it makes others uncomfortable. It doesn't matter what your intention was if you are pissing naked in front of a walmart. Regardless of his intention he did something creepy. So i said, that's creepy. And you disagreed. Because you seem to think a grown man being an "accidental creep" by repeatedly walking up to and ogling a woman is ok. I think even you know that isn't the case so your other arguement is because we can't control the actions of others we therefore cannot or should not say a creepy thing was creepy. This point is as dumb. If you said, that was creepy but... you could have a point here but you didn't. You refuse to say a creepy thing was creepy and are desperatly running through bullshit reasons why you shouldn't have to and i shouldn't have. Why are you fighting so hard to enable creeps to creep on women?

[–]damn_montana 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why are you such an idiot. You could argue wearing skin tight clothes is public indecency. You think the world revolves around your own feelings. The world doesn’t owe you anything and thinking that it does is such extreme delusion. You’re an idiot. Sure he can be a creep. And it makes people uncomfortable. Woahhhh let’s just ask him to stop being a free because that’s going to really work. Or just wear some damn shorts like that’s going to kill her. Control the things in our own power. You’re an idiot

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you prepared to make the case that wearing skin tight clothes is public indecency? Laws are built around concencus. Most people don't agree with that sentiment. Interestingly, for that logic to work, the world would have to revolve around your own feelings.

I called a creep creepy, what is it exactly I think i'm owed? What have i demanded? What have i proclaimed i am entitled to?

No, telling a creep not to be creepy probably won't help. But defending him, putting the fault on the woman, justifying his actions, and demanding he should not be called creepy because we can only control our own actions, defenitly hurts. You are going out of your way to make things worse and criticizing me because you doubt i can make them better. So, i would posit, you are the idiot.

[–]Snek1775 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (59 children) | Copy Link

His fault really, not for staring, but for backing down. He needed to point out that she didn't buy those overpriced leggings and wear nothing over them so that men wouldn't notice.

Every time I've had a woman try this shit on me pointing that out has shut them up real quick.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

you want a woman to wear something OVER leggings?

[–]Snek1775 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Me, no. But I'm a pervert.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

besides the point lmao, leggings are comfortable, provide compression, they’re thin and breathable as well as flexible, don’t keep in sweat all weird, so why would she wear something on top??

[–]Snek1775 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Cause her clothing choices are apparently causing her problems.

no, they do lot.

[–]Snek1775 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

In part absolutely, they dress mostly of course for themselves. But part of that is trying to look good for others which includes me.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

looking good and presentable is different then wanting to be sexualized and “wanting it.” especially at the gym, this is functional clothing. nobody’s calling a man a slut when he’s wearing no shirt (which is a good obviously) but when a woman’s wearing something a little tight she is? my point is there’s a difference between style and an invitation

[–]Snek1775 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

She chose the clothing and is well aware of how some men react. She is the one bothered by it. He didn't come slap her on the ass or anything. She 100%created the issue in both her dress and how she dealt with him.

If she'd either dressed differently or left him alone then it wouldn't be a thing. She made BOTH of those choices.

Let's go with a different example, I(a white man) puts on a "White Pwr" shirt and goes to a BLM rally. Does that mean that I want the kind of attention I'm going to get? Am I not free to wear whatever I want without being responsible for the reactions of others?

Then some black men start harassing me so I start filming them. How dare they harass me over my clothing choices. Next they follow me to my car, how dare they, so I call 911. Then one pulls a knife and I shoot them. Am I totally innocent in this chain of events?

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

she didn’t do anything to him, how could she have left him alone any more? and why are you saying women need to change what they wear at the expense of their comfort and practicality in order to be left alone.

your situation example is way more complicated. first of all a white pwr shirt is racist (i’m not going to argue about this so don’t even try if you disagree, please) compared to a womens sports set which there is literally nothing wrong with. going to a blm rally with a white pwr shirt is intending to instigate something and you know that. going to a gym and working out in an athletic outfit is in no way offensive and shouldn’t instigate anything

[–]Coltyn24 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's a disingenuous example and you know it. I have never seen anyone working out shirtless at a gym. If a man did that I would absolutely consider him a "slut" and definitely not consider it a good thing.

You act like what men wear is not policed in a gym even more rigorously than woman. A woman can wear leggings and a sports bra without a second look. There are entire gym chains (looking at you planet fitness) that are extremely popular and advertise not being accepting of men wearing tank tops, which are looser and cover more than a sports bra.

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

i meant it’s good he’s not being called a slut. have you seriously not seen people work out shirtless? not in a rude way i am genuinely surprised. people here take off their shirts for sports, working out, even at school in the summer

you just said women are accepted in sports bras and leggings but most people under this post are saying women wear these things for men. even saying they deserved to be r*ped

a crop top and a sports bra are not comparable for men and women. for a woman a crop top is 100000000x times worse for working out in than a sports bra. sports bras provide support and coverage vs a crop top breasts can easily fling out, which i’m sure people would be outraged at

i’ve never been a huge fan of comparing clothing because of the anatomy difference, my point is that people aren’t claiming men wear gym clothes for women

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Some do, some don't. If this was a lesbian gym and she was one of the few wearing skin-tight crap would you be saying the same thing?

Shorts and t-shirts for women existing doesn't refute my point. Tight fitting leggings are better for leg days so some people buy them. Those people are mostly women because they are socially considered women's clothing. And people who buy them tend to use them as their general gym cloths regardless of leg day or not. These are not difficult concepts to grasp and your intentional ignorance genuinely confuses me. Are you trying to justify creeping on women?

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Actually, it does refute your point as it shows there is not much difference between the styles for males and the styles for females. And i am clearly not trying to justify "creeping" on women, as shown in my description of him as rude and stupid. Generally, honest people do not see describing behavior as stupid and rude as a justification of such behavior. But that's HONEST people, not disingenuous assholes such as yourself.

[–]Ready_Inevitable2718 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Shorts for women existing does not change that leggings are viewed as women's clothing. Generally honest people would have done something to aknowlege the actual point the person they are argueing made. I do not see where you called that behaviour stupid and rude. I do however, see where you called it justified and joked about masturbating to random women in the locker room.

Australia rarely gives women any harsh punishment for murder convictions, they mostly get short sentences for murder and routinely sentences women guilty of first degree murder to manslaughter convictions, universities in Australia are female dominated and they still get treated as a underrepresented equity group despite of that, the government spends millions in the whole "women-stem" crap, so Australia is garbage.

[–]VincentZ6 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Should check if the women only gyms can be sued depending on the jurisdiction they're in. There have been a few "women only" groups we were able to sue in the past for sexual discrimination but again it depends on where (and the laws there). [–]LatterSeaworthiness4 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Did you just compare murder victims to some lady at the gym who went viral to try to get attention because some old guy may have looked at her for too long a couple of times? LMAO. Staring at someone is not a crime. She is not a victim. My God if I confronted and posted a video every time some man (or woman) stared at me, I’d have no time left in the day for anything else. Anyway, she doesn’t even know if he’s gay, legally blind, or what. People sometimes stare by accident.

[+]Drag_North -12 points-11 points-10 points 4 years ago (60 children) | Copy Link

I consider myself a feminist, and I’ve been looking at this sub a lot because I really do care about men’s issues like mental health and parental rights and all that. But posts like this are part of why you’re not taken seriously. Women do not exclusively dress for male attention. Women can wear clothes that they like without being harassed, ogled, stared at etc. Most fitness clothes for women are made form fitting. I’ve never once seen an ad for women’s fitness clothes where it’s just shorts and a shirt. And some curvier women will still fill out those clothes in a way that some men might find sexual. But blaming what women wear for the actions of men is awful. It’s similar (albeit less than) blaming men for getting boners when being sexually assaulted. Blaming someone for someone else’s actions is just an awful thing to do in general, and both men and women have gone through enough of this to know that.

[–]SamaelET 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I understand your point. But let's see the situation in the opposite way : If staring at her butt is sexual harassement, isn't showing that much of her butt in public also indecent exposure ? If it is a sexual part of the body then staring is sexual harassement. But in the same way, showing that much is also a form of indecent exposure.

(I am not english native so I do not know what is the non vulgar word for "butt")

[–]Alternative_Swan4969 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

she isn’t showing any of her butt, like actually 0%

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Butt is not a vulgar word, it is just slang.

[+]Drag_North -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I don’t believe staring at her butt is harassment. I think it’s rude to ogle people. And I don’t think the human body is inherently sexual. So wearing pants that fit tightly is not indecent. It becomes a problem when people stare at anyone for sexual reasons. If someone is wearing sandals, and another person with a foot fetish comes up to them and just stares at their feet, it’s just as creepy.

(Also, butt is the non-vulgar word, no worries)

[–]mikesteane 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

And I don’t think the human body is inherently sexual.

What evidence do you have that this man's gaze was inherently sexual? Maybe he is gay and just staring because he is amazed at what women will wear in public. Maybe he agrees with you and doesn't think the human body is inherently sexual and is just watching her exercise technique. Unfortunately, the assumptions you appear to be making contradict your other statements.

[+]Drag_North -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

What evidence do you have that it’s not sexual? At the end of the day we can only guess what he’s thinking based on how we interpret his body language and facial expression. I never said whether or not I think his gaze is sexual. But the human body isn’t inherently sexual in my opinion. I do think sometimes people overreact about others staring, but staring is still rude. And what people wear does not excuse anyone else’s negative behavior. Again, I don’t know what this man was thinking, but staring is rude imo and assuming negative things about this girl for what she wears is wrong.

[–]mikesteane 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

What evidence do you have that it’s not sexual?

It couldn't be if, as you say you believe, the human body is not sexual.

At the end of the day we can only guess what he’s thinking based on how we interpret his body language and facial expression.

Which is not enough to justify posting this video. Or your comments.

The woman was wearing clothing that was designed to show off every detail of her curves. She has no grounds for complaints if someone looks at her when she is in a public place. However, her filming other people in the gym is a different matter. She should not be filming there IMO. The video also doesn't appear to prove her case having been modified with still sequences to make it look like he is holding a stare.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I don’t believe that the body is inherently sexual, but we, as people with attraction, can sexualize it. And that’s true of anything, just look at people with obscure fetishes. I don’t think I agree with her filming necessarily or anything. I’m not condoning how she handled things, and I’m not saying the guy should be blasted either.

[–]mikesteane 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

We agree on most things then. Except that the body is inherently sexual, it woudn't exist if it could not reproduce itself, which it does through sex.

just look at people with obscure fetishes

I wouldn't do that for fear of ending up on Tiktok

The more I think about this, the more I think the lady is wrong. If she has slowed the film down in order to misrepresent the duration of his stare, then, in addition to everything else, she is probably committing an act of defamation.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It mostly depends on if she was trying to record herself exercising and just happened to catch that on film or if she set up the camera after realizing he was watching her. And she could’ve handled it privately and asked him to stop staring because she’s uncomfortable. I think posting it was unnecessary though.

[–]mikesteane 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I rather think it depends on what the gym policy is. I don't think he was "watching" her; the video appears to have been modified to make it look like that was the case.

[–]Clemicus 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Women can wear clothes that they like without being harassed, ogled, stared at etc.

Is that the official version of events? This story had been going around for maybe a month, but not one single outlet has actually approached the man for a comment. The whole thing is based on her version of events. That's biased

You don't know anything about him. Absolutely nothing. If he noticed the camera, couldn't he be uncomfortable with being filmed without his consent?

Why does she have to make the whole thing about herself? That's pretty narcissistic and it's a stretch. Wow, look at him looking at me like twice

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I’m not talking about his actions, I’m talking about the attitude of this post. “Can you really blame him” is something I’ve heard too many times when it comes to people’s actions towards others who dress a certain way. In general, people should not be ogled for wearing clothes. Women should not be stared down because others perceive them as dressing sexually. And I don’t know what this man’s intentions were, but my point still stands. I don’t think he’s a bad person or anything, just that he’s rude for staring.

[–]LoveHotelCondom 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

the attitude of this post

The post calls him an idiot and outright states he was being rude.

[–]Drag_North -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, but I personally perceive it as implying that people cannot be blamed for gawking at others because of something they where. I could be wrong in my perception as with anything. But I absolutely believe that other people’s clothing does not excuse someone’s actions.

I agree in a general sense and with regards to the title. But not in this particular case. There's just one side of the story and it's unknown if he was staring at her or the camera

And as far as I know it had been handled. He was removed from the premises and had his membership cancelled

[–]Drag_North 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don’t know the full story and I don’t claim to. But what I don’t like is the idea that women can’t wear what they want, and if the dress the wrong way men can’t be blamed for their actions. I think some other comments on this post are just way over the line.

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your comments on this post are stupid and rude. Don't worry, it's not like that is blaming you for your actions...

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Did you miss the bit where i call him an idiot as well as rude? The point is they are both at fault here, she for putting her ass on display, he for giving it more than a brief glance.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think either of them are at fault. She can wear form fitting clothes and it’s not a problem. A “brief glance” at her isn’t the problem. The problem is justifying negative actions by her clothes. A brief glance isn’t negative, but ogling is. Again, I don’t even know if staring was his intention or if he was thinking sexually.

[–]LatterSeaworthiness4 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I think it’s completely in line to say don’t touch women when they’re dressed a certain way. However, we went from “don’t touch women” to “don’t say sexual things to women because they’re dressed a certain way” (also fair) to “don’t say anything to women if they’re dressed a certain way because it’s creepy” to “don’t even look at women if they’re dressed a certain way.”

Yes, ogling is creepy, but you can’t tell from his stare if he’s even ogling. The guy honestly looks non plussed. He’s not craning his neck or smirking or licking his lips. He could just be staring at the camera set-up since most people don’t bring their phones to the gym to record their workouts. If men are only allowed to look at women for a “brief glance” or else it’s considered “ogling”, we have bigger issues as a society than I thought.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I agree that it is difficult to tell his intentions, and I don’t claim to know. But I haven’t heard anyone say you can’t speak to women dressed a certain way or look at them. People can tell the difference between creepy or rude behavior, and normal behavior. I do think this woman did not handle the situation as well as she could’ve considering she’s a grown adult. And other people saying that she deserves rape or that all women dress for attention, and justifying bad actions because of how people dress, is what’s really bothering me. But I think people should all be treated the same no matter how they’re dressed. A person could be wearing loose clothing and still be stared down.

[–]LatterSeaworthiness4 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Your last point is fair. I did see some whacko going too far with the comments about rape and I hope he’s still downvoted. I’ll admit maybe the “saying anything to women dressed a certain way” is not a societal rule, but as a young-ish woman, I know more than a few women who get mad when men respectfully try to try talk to them at all despite constantly posting sexy photos on IG. Like to the point where they screenshot the guy’s attempt to start a conversation and berate him for being creepy and lame instead of just ignoring. And they keep up that same energy at the club/bars. Of course these type of people are just attention-seekers, maybe not the norm.

And yes I agree people still get stared down wearing loose clothing. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if I got stared at if I went to the gym in a crop top with tight leggings. It’s just like the guys who choose to work out shirtless: people are naturally going to look especially since most people aren’t dressed like that (at least not in my state. Maybe in Miami it’s different.) I wear spandex leggings but usually a normal shirt to go with it and most of the women at my gym do the same. Most men at my gym wear normal tshirts or cutoff shirts, but only on occasion do you see someone shirtless.

Right, and I agree with you there. I don’t think a lot of people in this thread disagree with my assertions, and I do try my best to stay civil. But I do enjoy the discussion, and it helps me to build conversation abilities.

[–]LatterSeaworthiness4 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m sure they don’t but that’s ok. Not every comment needs to be a hard agree with the OP or community. I’m with you though. I do try to remain civil too. I’m a relatively new Redditor and was afraid to comment any adversarial positions on any subreddits for awhile since people get completely dragged for them sometimes. Seems silly since this is completely anonymous but I’m very non-adversarial (and certainly non-confrontational) in real life so this helps me assert myself a little bit lol

Most fitness clothes for women are made form fitting.

This is a lie. Here is a random selection from Rebel Sports. Notice that the MAJORITY (ie most) are no more form-fitting than the male equivalent.

https://www.rebelsport.com.au/womens/clothing/active-wear

And here is the shorts section. Note how most are not tight-fitting...

Thanks for showing me this, I haven’t seen this before but now I know where to look if I want looser options! And you’re right, I was generalizing too much about the right clothes thing. They’re just what seems to be in fashion so you see them more often.

[–]EmirikolWoker 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I consider myself a feminist, and I’ve been looking at this sub a lot because I really do care about men’s issues like mental health and parental rights and all that.

The foundational principle of feminism (class warfare between men and women with men winning, called "patriarchy") is inherrently anti-male when you examine what needs to be true for it to accurately describe reality.

But posts like this are part of why you’re not taken seriously.

I'm sure the copious amount of feminist media describing men's rights advocates as women hating white supremacist neo Nazi whining losers who can't get laid has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Clean your house.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I’m not associated with any group of feminists and I feel more connected to what’s technically egalitarianism. I describe myself based on my own personal views. I don’t support whatever media is bashing men’s rights activists, because there are many harmful stereotypes, rules, standards, etc against men that should be changed. And yes, I do argue with women who negatively generalize men. Just because there is a toxic minority of women who demonize men, does not mean all feminists are like that. That goes for pretty much any group of people tho. And I prefer the older ideas of feminism that focused on actual equality and not just self victimization. But I do agree that too many people generalize and demonize men and it is harmful.

[–]EmirikolWoker 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Just because there is a toxic minority of women who demonize men, does not mean all feminists are like that.

Correct. Just the feminists with any influence in media, academia, and the law. The ones who politically exist. The ones who Aren't Like That just lend them legitimacy and come out of the woodwork to defend the ideology they justify their systematic bigotry with.

And I prefer the older ideas of feminism that focused on actual equality and not just self victimization.

Are you meaning the first wave ("The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpation on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over her", from the declaration of sentiments) where the first big success was the creation of a two tier citizenship (where the right to vote carried obligations of civil and military conscription for men only), or the second wave where the Duluth Model was invented and Mary Koss defined rape as something men do to women?

It was never about equality.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The history of the legal obligation of men and women is extremely complex and many people, classical historians especially, may have different interpretations of causes and effects. When I mentioned the “old feminism” I meant it in the social sense. Women having the opportunity to choose their role in society, and men not having to carry the burden of the working class alone. Of course the issues of military drafting is complex, as with many other things, and mostly up to individual opinion. I believe that no one should be drafted, especially considering most Americans wouldn’t even fit military criteria. I hope no one believes that rape is something only men can do, since that is simply not true. I may be wrong but I believe the legal definition of rape specifically refers to penetration, and if that is the case than legislation certainly must be written to include the equivalent for men.

[–]EmirikolWoker 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

and men not having to carry the burden of the working class alone.

All waves of feminism have reinforced mens' legal and social obligations to protect and provide for women. For instance, the Tender Years Doctrine (from the first wave) reversed the legal default of father custody in the case of divorce (on the basis that the parent obliged to pay for the child should be the one who has primary custody) to default father custody - while still maintaining the father's obligation to pay for the children he doesn't get to be otherwise involved with.

I hope no one believes that rape is something only men can do, since that is simply not true. I may be wrong but I believe the legal definition of rape specifically refers to penetration, and if that is the case than legislation certainly must be written to include the equivalent for men.

The US definition requires penetration, yes. Where I am in the UK, it's something only a cisgendered man can commit! There was a petition a while ago to gender-neutralise the language, and the response from the government was that the law was adequate, and "most rapes are carried out by men" - an interesting choice of words, considering the law is worded so that all rapes are carried out by men, because when women do it we don't call it rape.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did not know that the UK was like that and it’s very unfortunate. I do hope it changes, victims of sexual violence deserve justice. And yes, when it comes to parental rights the custody laws have turned to favor women. I think it should be more even and determined more on an individual basis. I’m sure there are men who would have been better choices than women for the guardian with primary custody in some cases. The process of custody based on birth certificates is shocking as well, and leaves fathers with practically no say in whose name is on there. But I do believe feminism was and is important. With women being able to vote, join the army, participate in government, etc. But also it’s important to recognize that a lot of the limiting factors placed on men were put there by other men as well as women. The idea that men must be providers, is historically something that both men and women believed. I believe that feminism today should be trying to undo the negative gender stereotypes such as that. With any movement there are going to be positive and negative effects, and at first we might not recognize them as negative, but as we progress as a society identifying and changing negative effects should be the goal. So while maybe people didn’t know it would be bad to change legislation on divorce custody at the time, we can now recognize that it is harmful and fix it.

I’ve never once seen an ad for women’s fitness clothes where it’s just shorts and a shirt.

LOL! Look, folks, it's another lying feminist!

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I personally have not seen these ads before, so thank you for showing me. I never said those clothes didn’t exist, just that I hadn’t seen ads for them.

Unless you live under a rock i do not believe you have never seen ads for the MAJORITY of women's sportswear, only for the sexy minority. Daddy ain't stoopid.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s obvious we’re not going to agree on this and that’s okay. I think I’ve provided decent counterpoints to some things people have said here and I did want civil discussion. (Other than the person who said she should get raped) I think a lot of people here have given good arguments as well.

[–]MiddleReasonable647 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

If she were naked would she get stares? End of discussion.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Yes? If he were naked would he get stares?? That argument makes no sense because no one here is naked. And nakedness in public and prohibited private locations is illegal anyway. Wearing form fitting clothes is not. Anyone naked in a public place would get stares, and the cops called on them.

[–]MiddleReasonable647 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

But why? Why is nakedness frowned on? Why can’t she be naked? Why would glancing at a naked woman be expected but glancing at a tightly form-fitted fake workout suit not be expected? She got what she wanted: Attention to her body.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Well 1. Viewing a naked human body is something that both parties should consent to. We’re socially conditioned to feel shame when seen naked, and there might be some biological factors with that im not aware of. Not to mention that public nudity is illegal because of the fact you would be exposing yourself to those who did not consent to seeing you. 2. Form fitting clothing is not the same as nudity. When watching a swim team or gymnasts perform you don’t think “oh wow let me stare at them for their form fitting clothes”. Because a clothed body is not the same as a nude one. 3. I never said that a quick glance was the problem. Staring profusely (which may not even be what this man was doing) is rude in most contexts. And the main problem is the idea that people lose responsibility for their actions due to another person’s clothing choice. I don’t think this guy is some horrible creep, just that he was rude for staring. And in another comment I mentioned that I don’t believe this woman handled the situation properly if she truly felt uncomfortable.

[–]MiddleReasonable647 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

He didn’t stare, he glanced. She set herself up for being glanced at.
Do beautiful girls in bikinis on the beach REALLY think that no men are glancing?! They know it, they like it, then they act all upset when the wrong kind of man glances. Female privilege.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Why do men go around shirtless? Do they just want female attention? Or are they just comfortable with their bodies and dressing the way they want? The idea that women only dress for male attention is just plain wrong. Generalizations like that are harmful to everyone. And men and women can dress how they want, whether than be to fit their style or feel good about themselves or attract a partner. However, the reasons why people dress the way they do are EXTREMELY individual. Trying to speak for all women and tell us why we dress in form fitting clothing just won’t work. I don’t claim to speak for all women, and certainly not all men.

[–]MiddleReasonable647 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Fake. We all know that men without shirts are not a big deal. We also know that women dress provocatively to provoke the male gaze. This crazy lady did that whole thing on purpose.

[–]Drag_North 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

In Oklahoma, the law actually says that anyone regardless of age or gender can go around shirtless in public. Of course local counties kind of ignore this ruling anyway, but legally speaking it’s not a big deal for a woman to be shirtless either. Also if you do believe the male gaze is real, then surely you’re aware of the harmful effects it has on people and wouldn’t want to perpetuate it right? Personally I don’t think there’s enough evidence to support the male gaze thing. And what are you saying is fake? The fact that individuals have different feelings? Or that generalizations are harmful? “Women dress provocatively to provoke the make gaze”. Since you like to generalize, I hope you’re taking into account nuns, Muslim women, mennonites, Amish women, Mormons etc. All of which are women who specifically do not dress in a way that could be sexualized by anyone. See how that’s just harmful and incorrect? Just like any radfem rhetoric about how all men are awful just because some are. And I do concede that some women do dress for attention, but so do men, and that doesn’t excuse bad actions against them. (As in not glances, but harassment)

[–]MiddleReasonable647 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

OK. Which rule do you think it's violating? Looks like the comment's removed from where I'm sitting - are you going to amend your other post where you claim that none of the comments are removed, or keep it there because it supports a narrative?

calm down, it was true at the time of posting which was way past when a comment should’ve been deleted. if a stalker like you wants to check then can see what has and has not been removed (only the EXTREME ones were removed) i have no narrative. i reported it for several rules like hate, threatening of violence, a custom one of misogyny

idk if you realize but i have other things to do with my life, like school as it is the middle of the day. i’m not salivating over my keyboard checking every single thing to make sure it’s up to date
