Yeah. I'm full supportive of a woman's right to choose, but so many feminists will then turn around and go full on social conservative in discussing a man's right to opt out of parental rights/child support.

Holy shit I’ve always wondered about that scenario! As a woman who grew up with only feminist narratives around rights, empowerment, abortion etc etc, it took me a while to think outside the box and evolve my mindset. Men’s rights and their part in deciding on an abortion is never discussed there. There is always discussion about women stuck in relationships because of pregnancy, but no one mentions about the man who might want the child but is stuck in a relationship with a woman who’s adamant on aborting it. Contrarily, there’s the case of a man feeling stuck in a relationship because of pregnancy.. where the woman wants to carry the child, he doesn’t but is obligated to pay for child support.

I also thought about cases of a male victim of rape getting the female rapist pregnant. This is never discussed in feminist circles. Would the rapist still be granted bodily anatomy by virtue of her being a woman? What if the man she has assaulted wants the child? Or.. as OP mentions, he doesn’t want anything to do with the pregnancy but is demanded to pay for child support to the rapist. That’s horrendous and illogical.

I believe women should have the choice and be able to abort when she’s a victim. But this choice should be extended to male victims of sexual assault as well.

That would be a much better world than the current one, where abortion is granted via a female biased "bodily autonomy" argument that translates to "her body, her choice, his responsibility, even she raped him".

First things first, she should be judged unsuitable to parent the child conceived through rape, statutory or not. And other people should not have standing to sue for child support.

Interestingly, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women requires states that have ratified it (not you, USA) to give men and women equal rights to become parents or not.

Article 16

States Parties shall take all appropriate measures to eliminate discrimination against women in all matters relating to marriage and family relations and in particular shall ensure, on a basis of equality of men and women:

…

(e) The same rights to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children and to have access to the information, education and means to enable them to exercise these rights;

(f) The same rights and responsibilities with regard to guardianship, wardship, trusteeship and adoption of children, or similar institutions where these concepts exist in national legislation; in all cases the interests of the children shall be paramount;

Let's hope that if Roe's bodily autonomy argument gets overturned, that provides room to negotiate a new reproductive autonomy right that protects all genders.

I'd rather that the autonomy argument be logically extended to things like circumcision than overturned.

I also like the general body autonomy Argument as well. This about the man's body giving the last bit of material to create the child. Part of his body is in the child as well as part of the woman. Just because the kid is in the mom doesn't mean the father is irrelevant.

The bodily autonomy argument has always just been a feminist "gotcha" to obscure what they actually want, which is a right to manage to consequences of an unwanted pregnancy/child.

I remember browsing places like askfeminists a few years ago. They'd always talk about how its irrelevant whether the fetus is a person; all that matters is that the right to bodily autonomy should never be infringed for any reason. This was hard to refute and worked well for them, because the concept of "bodily autonomy" has rarely had any realistic application outside of abortion. Fast forward to the age of covid and vaccine mandates, and they're all "well... I mean... like... the right to bodily autonomy doesn't really apply if your actions impact other people." Ok then, so it seems to matter a whole lot if the fetus is a person.

There are a variety of reasons why we should be pro-choice, and it's totally reasonable to take the position that a woman should be able to consider the moral implications of an abortion on her own terms. Just be honest about it. And as it relates to this post, afford the same reproductive rights to men.
