On IMDB as of right now there's an article/video saluting women directors. There's many talented female directors for sure, but why emphasize their gender? To me things like gender, nationality, skin color, etc. are irrelevant to a person's talents in any field and it's always so annoying when that gets focused on rather than the person's talents. I don't watch a film or show and think to myself "Did a woman direct this?" It just comes off as identity politics pandering to me. Things like gender are totally irrelevant to things like directing. I think focusing on male directors would be just as stupid, to be honest. Knowing the average feminist, their response would be "Men have always been directing, time for female directors to get the focus!" In that case, why not also focus on male directors if you truly care about things being equal. Making something like directing about gender is ridiculous to me. Talent and skill is what matters, not gender.

My wife's friend is being moved to Kansas because the husband feels depressed and wants to move close to his mom. When she said she didn't want to move he said she had to because he pays the mortgage. Having a really hard time figuring out whether this is "his right" or if the lack of compromise or discussion is wrong. Just really sad I guess. I thought the guy was a friend but he didn't tell anyone before accepting a job and letting his mom convince him he should move home.

An upcoming Horror film, Audition (not the 1999 Japanese one). The film is about actresses auditioning for a film, unaware the director might actually be a killer planning to film their murders. Here's an official blurb about it:

"This film has been made with permission and in cooperation with the victims’ families in order to serve as a WARNING to other young women and people in general about meeting people online or on apps -- especially if they have something you want or need."

Now granted, it said people in general which would obviously also encompass men, but still, the emphasis on serving as a warning to young women. Meaning it's again enforcing the usual "women most affected" rhetoric, ignoring that men can also be victims and there have absolutely been instances of men also lured by psychopaths on the internet. The Mark Twitchell story is one such incident.

Which there's a lot to unpack here.
1: Women being in the draft doesn't mean every woman is getting drafted.
2: We have 7.9 Billion people on this planet, this scenario is only plausible in your head, and is utterly ridiculous.
3: It's nice we had movements of "I'm more than a uterus" only for some to default back to "I'm not expendable! I have a uterus!" when convenient. Then getting mad at the recent "WW3 feminists in the kitchen" memes. Maybe don't prove the memes right then? Just a thought.

We tried to make the draft gender neutral but the republicans shot it down!

Imma just say since, for some reason, some people see "republican" and think "only men" (See abortion rights.) There are in fact female republicans. Women who are happy with traditional values. Happy to send men to war to die. Who think consent to sex is consent to having a child. So if you're going to paint an entire political spectrum with one large stroke, you're view is incredibly reductive and it's not worth debating with you.

All that mixed in with some "Nobody should drafted/conscripted" which while true also makes me question if they're just virtue signaling, considering how often we hear people say that but nothing actually being done about it. But that could be me just being cynical.

It's annoying when people assume you're right-wing or an MRA, MGTOW, etc. for bringing up men's issues when I'm none of those things at all. I'm an egalitarian and feel issues that also affect men and boys are far too overlooked and we hear about women's rights often at the expense of men's when both deserve equal rights and treatment. It's great that women have progressed and advanced so much over the decades, but we often forget that men face struggles too and it's important to address that and give men equal amounts of aid and support, too. Men and women both deserve to have their rights upheld and protected.

Ya know what, when I found this sub I thought I found an island of sanity. Finally a mens rights sub that doesnt either completely cuck itself to feminism, or on the flip side be absolutely toxic and anti feminist, but after engaging with many people here over the last day or so, I'm starting to have second thoughts. This sub absolutely does have a problem.

As I see it, women have issues. Feminism is legitimate. My only gripe with feminism is that it tends to go too far sometimes and seem to advocate for rights for women while minimizing and diminishing men's issues.

But the problem with a lot of male dominated spaces, including this sub based on comments I've had, is they do the opposite. They attack and diminish feminism more than necessarily, not just taking it off of the pedastal to point out its hyppocrisies, but engaging in those same hypocrisies the other way and minimizing womens issues.

THis is why i hate gendered politics in general. It's just a toxic tribalistic cluster**** both ways. Feminists end up hating men. MRAs end up hating women. They both fight each other, when the problem isnt inherently gender. The problem is cultural and social norms that create inequalities between the genders. If we just treated everyone the same and gave everyone the same rights and the same freedoms the problem wouldnt exist.

Jesus. Idk why this **** is so ####ing hard for people. Its frustrating. Anyway, I'm out. I thought this sub was a place for me, but it's just like the others.

At work yesterday at the bookstore I work at, seeing some Wonder Woman graphic novels amidst the pile of go-backs reminded me of the controversy back in 2017 over the woman-only screening of the first Wonder Woman movie and how people were actually defending it and saying it wasn't sexist and was celebrating how far women had come in film, etc. which is asinine to me because why make a women-only screening? It was blatantly and clearly sexist and discriminatory, and you know a film getting a man-only screening would immediately be met with cries of protest about it being sexist and misogynistic. I couldn't believe people were defending it and saying it wasn't sexist and even outright mocking and belitting men complaining about it. When you know had it been a man-only screening there would've been an outcry. It's so irritating to constantly hear about men being privileged in the West and women not being treated as equals when something like this can not only be legal but even celebrated and defended. Kind of shoots down the whole "men are privileged" notion right there as well as the usual diatribe we here about how sexism against men doesn't exist. And a woman-only screening of a movie is only the tip of the anti-male iceberg.

When out shopping earlier there was a mother with her two young daughters, and the youngest (who looked to be about maybe 4 or 5?) was wearing a shirt that said "Girls run the world." I hate slogans like this (as well as "the future is female") that blatantly promote female supremacy and domination. Genuine empowerment is fine but when it crosses the line into supremacy and male-bashing, I've got no tolerance. "Boys run the world" would immediately be derided as sexist and misogynistic. I hate when supremacy and misandry like this is disguised and presented as empowerment when it's not. Sends an awful message to boys and girls alike.

At work earlier at my Barnes & Noble there's an endcap in the junior section with books to empower girls, and I think one of them had a title of "Girls Only." This sends a bad message, how is it equal or inclusive for only girls to be represented or empowered or acknowledged? I have no problem with women and girls being empowered at all but not nearly enough is done to also provide empowerment for men and boys, which in this day and age of so much widespread and socially acceptable misandry is badly needed. It was all the more concerning to me when later nearby in the same section, there was a mother with her toddler son who looked to be no older than maybe 3 or 4 tops, and I couldn't help but think how sad it is there's not nearly enough men/boy empowerment to remind him he matters and also deserves to be respected and treated with dignity and that there's many great men in history who've accomplished a great deal that he can also be a part of when he gets older. It's especially important with the male mental health crisis and how men are more prone to committing suicide, which isn't helped by lack of empowerment, lack of resources and the male-bashing over the past few years.

This sickening story is worthy of having it's own topic. What this woman did was beyond repugnant and she deserves to be punished as harshly as any man who would do this. Notice how the article though never mentions rape, even though that's blatantly what she did? Always important to remember there's numerous unreported incidents of female on male rape and sexual violence, no matter how much feminists try to downplay or minimize it. Whether it's MOF or FOM, it's disgusting and horrible either way. It's incidents like this that make that stupid Gillette ad from a few short years back all the more infuriating, will they or another company put out ads like that telling women like this sick freak they need to do better as well? No violence or sexual misconduct flies in my book, regardless of the genders of the perpetraitors and victims.

I have something I need a bit of help with, and I’m not sure where to turn.

A woman I used to know came back into my online radar. I’ll spare the details, but I haven’t had contact with her since I was a pre-teen, a time period when I had a huge crush on her. However, since then she’s gotten involved in a lot of stuff that isn’t too good. My problem comes in that seeing pictures of her again brought back all those old feelings, and new ones. Every time I see one of those pictures it practically feels like my chest is going to burst, and like I’ll lose my mind. When people describe love, that’s what it sounds like and feels like, but I know it’s not that.But at the same time, I can’t find the urge to attempt to contact her, or quit looking into what info she’s put out there.

I need to know a good way to get myself away from this feeling and cycle of going back. If my sister finds out about any of this, even if there’s no contact, she’ll be livid. Any help folks?

I've been struggling with feelings of bitterness and jealousy towards women that I don't really know how to deal with productively.

Long story short, I'm a kinky submissive guy. I've known this for a long time and it's just the way I am and what I want to get out of a relationship. So naturally, I've gone to try to find spaces and people who will fullfil that.

Turns out, there are literal communities who's sole purpose is to offer a safe space for women to try engaging in the kind of stuff I enjoy... but not for men. I looked at the subreddit and naturally these women are always in demand and have little issue finding a partner. I mean, nothing quite new there, it's how the world works right now.

Then you flip to the male side, the small little pockets that even exist... where I've been called disgusting and a number of slurs for liking the exact same things as those women do.

It's perplexing, because I'm not bitter at those women, they are welcome to live their lives and if I could easily find what I sought I'd jump on the chance. But the numbers are so skewed against me it feels like I'm searching for a unicorn riding another unicorn. I'm not sure how not to feel jealous and a tad bitter when everyone else in a community I enjoy is getting to live out their kinky dreams and I'm still waiting for someone to show up who thinks I'm not disgusting and is willing to give me a chance.

I think it's just hard swallowing that in some instances I'm literally less desired because of my sex and like... what am I gonna do about that? I can't do anything but just bear it and keep waiting for the right people to show up. It's been throwing me into a loop where I feel like my life would just be easier as a woman and I'm starting to question if I even want to be a man anymore. Like... I've had wavering gender identity things for years now and it's stuff like this that keeps pushing them. It feels like transitioning wouldn't solve all my problems but it would at least make it a lot easier for me to just live the life I want to live and I'm scared to let that influence me.

I don’t know exactly how to word this, or if it is very related to the goals of this sub. Or if I’m not just perceiving things that aren’t there. But it’s been weighing on my mind for a while.

Does anybody else get the sense that there is a rising sentiment on at least the internet that “weird” and socially awkward kids and people are, to put it one way, “actually the bad guys”? Namely, that all of these negative personality traits are being ascribed to them, with the clear implicit message that they deserve their social failures?

It’s difficult to give a direct example here. But one that might fit is the long-standing meme of the “band kid”. If you aren’t aware, a band kid is an awkward and non athletic teen who is ridiculed as being annoying and unfunny, but also as egotistical, self-absorbed, and entitled. Now at first, I thought that it was kind of funny. As time has gone on and it and its derivations haven’t died off though, I’ve come to be more and more uncomfortable with the subtext that unpopular kids deserve special ridicule. The way I see it, a kid who thinks that saying random repetitive memes will help them make friends is already suffering enough. Why would I beat someone who is down?

I understand that nothing in life is black and white. It’s certainly not absurd that some rejected people dig their own holes through character flaws. But it certainly doesn’t seem that one can tar every single, or even the majority of lonely persons as being such. Surely, at least some of them are genuinely in an unfortunate situation that is no fault of anyone.

And yes, I have social difficulties. And perhaps, then, I should be humble and not speak to the causes of my own issues. But I know several other people who have problems with social acceptance, and they do not seem selfish. Prone to being annoying, maybe; but they are only trying to understand a language that they were never taught, and which is inherently more difficult for them to learn. Why be so hostile?

Again, perhaps I’m misreading intentions. But when enough jokes are made at the expense of those who already have little, I cannot help but inquire as to why. Moreover, I never see memes mocking the “popular” kids. And I have a strong suspicion that if they did, they’d be downvoted and the OP called a bitter loser, or something.

On Twitter today it was trending that it's National Women And Girls In Sports Day. I think this is pretty ridiculous and definitely unfair and unequal that there also isn't a National Sports Day For Men And Boys. The average feminist response as you'd expect is "everyday." Then when aren't men and boys also celebrated every other day for their achievements in sports? :/ To me days like this are nothing but gender pandering and more divisive identity politics. There's talented men and women alike in sports who both deserve recognition and celebration, especially those who give back.

On another note, at work today there was a book by Malala Yousefzai, I think? It was a new book and it's about standing up for girls' rights. Again, the rights of boys being overlooked and brushed aside. It's important both have their rights and both have their rights defended and protected. I get there's countries and parts of the world where women have it absolutely horrible, but it's not exactly a picnic to be a male in a place like the Middle East, either. So many boys in these parts of the world are often forced to become child soldiers against their own will and a life of combat and trying not to die is all they know. Far too little is done to represent and help these boys as much as the girls.

So there have been a few posts on the topic of how we should get people to have empathy for men's issues in the past month or so. I'm pessimistic regarding the goals that people here seem to want to achieve for a few reasons.

The empathy gap is extremely, extremely ingrained, and it has been reinforced through millennia of evolution that women's lives are to be protected, and men's purpose is to provide them that protection. Throughout history there has been a complex of reproductive interests, from the level of the individual, to the kin group, to the societal group, that biologically predisposes us to assign greater pragmatic value to female life, and to assign men (and even boys) the role of risking death in the service of preserving female reproductive potential.

And of course, when men occupy that role, men are going to become good at it. Over a long timeframe, traits would get selected for in men that help them shield women, and existing sexual dimorphism between males and females which help men perform that task would get reinforced and strengthened (whereas on the other hand females would evolve physical and behavioural traits which exploit and amplify people's willingness to care for them and act on their behalf). And because we've done it for so long, men have actually ended up being physically and psychologically suited to occupy the role of shielding others (read: women, children and society) even at cost to themselves, and women have not.

So when you suggest things such as, say, the draft becoming gender-neutral, people can and will make arguments on the basis of pragmatism such as the argument that men are more suited to occupying these roles than women, and that women are not really suited to combat roles. This makes things even harder to change, because not only are there a whole host of evolved psychological biases which make us feel much more okay with subjecting men to harm and danger, there are also currently existing practical reasons why any given society should do so: because men have slowly actually become better adapted to dealing with harm and danger for the purpose of shielding others than women have over millennia of selection pressure.

And this is a self-reinforcing feedback loop. Our perceptions of women as the appropriate beneficiaries of protection (and the willingness of women to take advantage of it), our perceptions of men as the appropriate providers of that protection (and the willingness of men to provide it), and the sheer convenience of utilising men as an ablative shield (because men have evolved to be suited for the role) - these factors come together to produce societal memes that reinforce the current situation, and which spread like wildfire. These memes become common in society, and they bleed into institutions which further legitimise and justify these attitudes and practices.

For example, our greater empathy for women and our greater desire to protect them leads to a particular vigilance for and outrage at harms against women. That means we become hypersensitive to harms against women and perceive that they're everywhere, because they're reported and spoken about so regularly regardless of the actual commonality of the problem or if the problem even exists. On the flip side of things, even legitimate harms against men get downplayed and justified away, or they simply just get ignored and go unreported. In line with this skewed reporting and attention, we perceive that women have it difficult and hypotheses and theories emerge to explain and document this perceived female hardship. The false perception that women have it difficult compared to men then further reinforces our empathy for women as well as our ideas that women are the appropriate beneficiaries of protection and help. Now people don't just instinctively feel a certain way, they now have a whole host of seemingly legitimate justifications and rationalisations as to WHY they feel that way, and that's deadly.

It would be easier if we were dealing with just one of these things alone, but we're not. This is a state of affairs which is strongly etched into our psychology and which is reinforced by a lot of factors, and even now when we're in the modern day, it has no reason whatsoever to change (in fact, modernity has allowed us to run completely amok with these biological propensities of ours). And against this formidable complex of factors working against us, appealing to people from a basis of universal moral standards "Men are just as human as women" simply won't work very well even if it is the morally just stance to take.

It's nearly impossible to see how one can change it. We're stuck here, I think. I've resorted to simply expecting people to do the very bare minimum: to at least acknowledge and to have compassion for the problems facing men, as well as to stop shitting on and demonising men and placing all blame on them, and people can't even do that. Because it would make their instinctual knee-jerk reactions feel immoral, and they wouldn't be able to justify it to themselves.

That's it. I wish I had something more positive to say, but there isn't.

I am making this post because I feel transmasculine people often do not get enough love, even less than cis men sometimes. And I know that they might horrible as a result. So I just wanted to give you guys some love.

The person who had the most impact on my life is a trans man, and I cannot thank him enough. He is the reason that I am able to pursue a career in physics, he is the reason I have developed good social skills, he's the reason I am me. Yet I have seen him receive a lot of hatred. And it breaks my heart to see that people who have never even met him hate him so, just because he is a trans guy. Many others also experience similar things. I hope that if you see this, I at least made your day a little better.
