I never understood the "never ask a woman her age" thing. Why are we supposed to be offended? People are going to find out your age as they get to know you. If any man in the workplace says something about my age, I'm ready to insult him back. Hit him with the "mens looks peak at 20. especially the hairline"

Sir, Ma'am, if you really believe that couplehood is The only path to happiness for women^TM, why are you telling me I'm selfish for not participating in it? Just admit that hetero couples are labor camps for women but that you think we have a moral duty to go to them already.

Also, why is it so taboo to recognize that men pose a risk to women's lives? Everyone buckles their safety belt without question, but refusing to go to a place you'll be alone with an unknown man is paranoid?

Absolutely this.

I always commented when I see movies where the child protagonist's mother is "de@d" or "k111ed" at the beginning of the movie. It's society's implicit acknowledgment of mothers as the primary agent of safety in a child's life (a common reality that our more formal structures - courts, doctors, etc. - often pretend not to notice).

I was proud of my son when he mentioned that he didn't want to take his daughter to see a new movie. Why? "They k111 her mom off in the beginning. I remember you always mentioning that when we saw a movie as kids. I don't like it either."

But this toxicity toward thriving, full-lifespan for women was never as blatant as when I coparented. The entire stepparent culture sometimes openly celebrates the death of a child's biological mother, for no other reason than that having her husband's ex around for the kids makes a stepmother uncomfortable. You don't have to scroll far in the appropriate reddit subs right here, today to find exactly this sentiment.

Hostility toward mothers (and the use of them as faceless, voiceless, powerless life-support systems for wombs, disposable after /during birth) is woven into the fabric of our culture.

Lol, I’m 58 and proudly tell my age because I made it through breast cancer and a bunch of other shit that would kill a man.

In my opinion not only are we shamed for surviving- we’re shamed for not staying quiet about it.

Happy International Womens Day, first off. And I felt this so hard. Women get so afraid of reaching certain milestones and we never think twice about it. My little sister feared her 18th birthday because she knows society won’t look after her anymore wrt predators. I feared my 25th birthday because now I’m no longer hot and happening. 🙄 And I became depressed on my 30th birthday because… that’s it, that’s the end of my life.

Now, I’m just so happy I’m alive. I was supposed to die years ago when I was stuck in an abusive, violent marriage. My parents, completely brainwashed, thought it was the right thing to do to bring me back to my ex, because deep down, they believe I shouldn’t live. They never questioned it, or seriously think I should die. But that’s how deep in the trenches we all are in, inside a misogynistic world.

Why are we so sweet and tearful and worship dead women? “Forever young and beautiful!” We cry out, almost GLAD that we don’t get to see her old, gray haired and wrinkled. We don’t act like this when a man dies young. When a man dies young, all I see are people actually grieving and saying nothing about his looks. Really makes you think.

Not to mention that we are being erased by men and they're pickmes. We will soon not even be allowed to say we're women or that we love being women, that we're mothers or that we have breasts with which we breastfeed. Oh no... We have to say we "chest feed".

Men really are so, so, so easily offended, they now claim they're better at being women than women are.

Do y’all realize how many ways women are shamed for NOT DYING? We’re shamed for getting older. We’re shamed for having c-sections. We’re shamed for surviving assault. When our mere existence is a defiance to the system that wants our lives missing, we dismantle the patriarchy each time we choose living.

I didn’t realize getting older was shameful until I noticed women are taught to dread their birthdays and it’s a taboo for us to say how old we are. I’m 34 and I’m living. I didn’t realize c-section shaming was a thing until a male relative told me I took the “easy way out” after a medically necessary c-section in which if I chose otherwise I could have died. I gave birth and I’m living. I didn’t realize being a survivor of assault was more shameful than dying from it until I was told I must bury what had happened into the grave of silence. I survived and I’m living. I’m not dying while I’m living. I’m living while I’m living. When our existence threatens the patriarchy, we dismantle the system each time we choose living.

This should always be our reaction to people trying to shame us getting older. We should always rejoice and celebrate it with saying our true age without shame. Its blessing not curse to grow old even if you look like swamp witch. If I have hit the wall I don't care. It weeds out the men never wanted.

Any man who shames women for "taking easy way out" with C Section is an idiot. That's such idiocy. I doubt C Section is not without pain. Its surgery illogical idiot male.

Ah, yes, a clueless LVM telling a woman, no less, that having a frickin C-section is the "easy way out." She should've straight bitch slapped him 🤣 I know I would've - I've had two c-sections, the first one being an emergency. The pain I felt after both c-sections was immense and it took a long time to heal. I still get shooting pains along my incision scar 4 years later! (My kids are 6 and 4). If a man said that to me--he better run 😡
