I had a male coworker who was sulking in the corner for no apparent reason and this pick me girl in the office would scoot her chair over to him and baby voice about “what’s wrong 🥺?!!!”, why he wasn’t talking, if there’s anything she could do to help him for a solid 30 mins. Despite the male coworker being in a bad mood and sitting there all emo, you could tell he just loved the attention. I’m cringing thinking about it, that was a terrible day to be in the office

I have a very similar coworker. She puts the crustiest of men on a pedestal and always has to have a “work husband.” She sees every woman as competition for male attention, even though she’s the only one who has any interest in these below average scrotes.

I used to be a pickme, I wanted to be married one day. All I got is relationships and friendships where I got mistreated. I don’t get why women still chase men like they are worth it. Why not chase a career and dreams? Those things won’t screw you over.

Men will only use pickme, rarely ever reward them. When you become a pickme, you might get their attention but you don't get their respect. They start taking you for granted.

Yeah, it seems to have served my coworker well. She started as a cleaner, now a manager. Getting paid the same as me and she didn't finish highschool. Can't spell, can't do simple math and she handles money for our company.

She started an affair with the boss when she was still a cleaner. Both were married. She is earning more than she will ever earn anywhere else but she has been a side piece for over a decade. Boss is still with his wife, her husband left her.

It isn't an advantage. Trust me, these men are laughing at her behind her back and making gross sexualized comments/making bets on who will f*ck her first and basically thinking she's a wh*re. They have no respect for her professionally.

The best way to get ahead in the workplace is to treat men with a cool, professional demeanor. Don't go out of your way for them, don't do shit for them, don't express emotion in front of them, don't do overtime for them, don't talk about personal matters with them, don't be a therapist for them. Do nothing that makes them think you're a pushover/chump. Just be efficient and good at your role. I learnt this the hard way but now in my current workplace, men talk to me in a respectful, professional manner and I have apparently acquired a reputation as someone who takes no shit. Never show them your underbelly.

I think it may be an advantage but at the same time it isn't. Because they will think she's too feminine and not assertive enough to get a good salary, but at the same time men will like spending time with her. But maybe she can easily become the "suck my dick for a rise" for her boss (if it's a male). And that can be dangerous as fuck.

It's hard. As you work to gain power, their attitude will undermine you.

It's frustrating, but in order to succeed, women have to rail against the patriarchy and against women who've bought into it. Just stay pro, that's all you can do. That said, I'm not advising you to take shit either. Be clear on your expectations and play the ball, not the person.

Her voice deepens when she talks to women.

This particular thing irritates me so much, and I can't even articulate why. People who artificially raise their voices around people just frustrate me to no end. I get lowering your voice Elizabeth Holmes style, because maybe you want to be taken more seriously or sound like you know what you're doing, which I'm sympathetic to; but raising your voice to anyone who's not a baby, a cat, or your long term partner when you're being cuddly or something is just so endlessly creepy. This is basically why I hate going into Lush stores too.

Yikes. Sadly when you have family members like these you grow up watching these tactics. I had the misfortune of having someone like this in my life since birth (thankfully in my case not parents but other relatives). It’s even worse when they escalate to behaviors such as 1) going after partnered men 2) actively trying to take attention off of you, especially in times when they know you’ll get more attention/so covert sabotage to try to usurp the spotlight when they see you’re getting attention or glowing up, even minimizing you in front of others or trying to hide your strengths to do so 3) even stooping so low as to defend child groomers or predators or abusers, always centering the man’s side of the story. Throwing friends and family members under the bus for a man. Meanwhile all doing this while having their own toxic relationships and going 50/50 because “eQuAliTy.”

Had an adult student like this. The male asshole who thinks of himself as the lead teacher (he's been demoted for, among other things, f***king some of the male students) used her to try and get me in trouble by saying I give too many breaks but hand out too much work. She's an ex heroin addict and often seems like her head is going to pop like a balloon if she doesn't take a break and eat some sugar. I was being empathetic....I thought?

Some women play the role of the ‘pickme’ in the workplace, but are super cunning about it and use it to climb the corporate ladder/fuck their way to the top. Double edged sword though, it’s a good way to make a lot of enemies.

Can say that about my past colleague. Even my most irritating coworker got fed up with her. But yeah, it helped her a lot. Later on, it turned out she already got divorced for cheating on her husband and pretended like marriage never happened in front of us. I don't know weather she is a player or a pickme.

I've witnessed this behavior from more than one colleague. They will receive more attention. In part, because they demand it. However, they are not respected. What you want is to build your resume and be respected.

Another user has already said it, but I am going to reiterate it in my own comment. Maintain a cool, professional demeanor and be efficient at your job.

I had some woman try to humble brag about having a grand baby and how her sons are married and all I could think in my head was, "with an asshole like you for a mother??? I feel bad for those women..." she's just real angry and not pleasant to be around.
