Sometimes I read about the female gaze and I just don't get it. I want women, or at least some women, to find me attractive and I feel like I have to appeal to the female gaze in order to do that. But the female gaze just ends up making me feel gross, ashamed and inadequate.

But I just don't really understand it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a man and it's just not what I relate to or want. I try to read about and understand the female gaze as it pertains to men, but it just doesn't make any sense to me. Like I just can't relate to what they want and how it works. From what I can tell they are seeking kindness and thoughtfulness, but how can you get that from aesthetics? I just don't get any of it, and when I try to understand it it just make's me more confused. I try to answer a question and just get more questions, none of which have solid answers

I don't know if women were socialised to want these things or if it's just a inherent desire in them. I see conflicting accounts on it. I've read so many 'women want X, women want Y' posts and comments that it hurts my head now to even think about

I'm told to listen to women about what women want but when I do it's bad for my mental health. I see things said like 'you need a skincare routine, you need to wear clothes that fit, you need to smile more'. But I'm not interested in any of the stuff women list. I don't have a skincare routine and I think my skin looks fine, I don't wear clothes that fit and I look great, I think I look much more attractive when I don't smile than when I do

I see women themselves say 'men have no idea what women find attractive' and it really pisses me off. Why don't people consider what we find attractive on ourselves? The male gaze tells me I'm not attractive and so does the female gaze.

I've recently begun LOVING the way I look. I look in the mirror and I think the guy looking back is the hottest motherfucker on the planet. I LOVE looking like a unhygenic, sad sack, trashy, depressed doomer, but I just don't believe that's anything any woman wants. I feel like I've got to change myself and become someone I don't recognise to get what I want

I like looking kind of like a tough guy. I like looking intimidating. I like looking unapproachable. I don't like looking wholesome or like I have golden retriever energy. None of that appeals to the female gaze. It feels like I don't have a choice, I can either like the person I am or be attractive to women, not both

Of course I am kind and thougtful. I like cats, and nature, and art, and fashion. I dearly love my friends and family and do my best to express to them that I'm grateful for them. I wear nail polish, and crop tops and have started wearing eyeliner. I'm in touch with my 'feminine side' (I don't really see it as 'feminine' or a 'side', it's just who I am)

I'm not just some dudebro meathead but I'm not a totally wholesome guy who looks like he gives good hugs either. But despite that I'm still a whole person, but I'm just not sure how to communicate that outwardly. I just want to be my grotty-ass self and be loved for it, but that just isn't how things work

I just feel like what men and women desire is so different that it makes me wonder why I bother. It's obvious we don't want the same things, if we don't want the same things why even bother trying to be in a relationship. Why can't we want the same things?

This has actually helped me be more empathetic of women, because if this is how they feel when they're subjected to the male gaze then I don't want them to ever feel this way, I don't want anyone to feel this way. I really wish there was no 'gaze', no male or female way of looking at things and we could just all like the stuff we like. I want to destroy them so they don't hurt someone the same way they hurt me

I'm sorry if any of that sounds entitled or misogynistic or anything. This was mainly rambling so I didn't police my langauge that much

I really wish there was a way to confirm that some women out there find me attractive, at least enough to think about me or give me a chance
