On average, stature definitely effects women's attractiveness towards men and anyone who says otherwise is lying. There are very few women who could date a man shorter than them.

From what I've seen, when women say "I don't care about a guy's height" what it really means is "I don't care about a guy's height as long as he's in the height range that I care about".

As for how to change the perception of short men? Stop making shortness (especially for men) seem like it's a bad thing.

A lot of people defend the whole heightism thing by saying, "Well, its women's preference, and there's nothing wrong with that. What are you saying? Women's preferences are amoral and should be controlled?" The problem with this as I see it is two fold.

Are women actually not attracted to men who aren't giants? Or is this just an artificial construction/choosiness brought on by female privilege in the modern dating world? I have a hard time its really the former, at least when it comes to the majority of women.
Imagine how it would sound if a guy said "I'm only attracted to slutty supermodels who give it up on the first date". Everyone would call that guy a pig. So why are women not pigs for having equally ridiculous standards?

As I said in #1, my guess its that this whole obsession with height is largely political, and could be counteracted, at least theoretically. If its really a strict biological problem with getting aroused for most women, then I doubt there is much we could do but I really don't think that is the case. For most of human history, people were quite short due to malnourishment. For example, 5 foot would have been considered tall for most of our evolutionary history, so I don't see how there could be a real biological component for this.

I don't think I am personally affected by this, but obviously there is always someone taller than you.

Still, I feel all this bigger, higher, larger, longer etc. is especially extreme in the USA.

So while it may not be possible to fully eliminate, there is certainly a social/"culture" side to it that can be changed.

Biologically speaking various heights do definitely have pros and cons, and the drive towards a universal "ideal" like often shown in media, where models or influencers look quite similar, is not really good.

Actual diversity (as opposed to this fake woke one), is good, and should be attractive. However society really enforces uniformization in many ways, and defines it as status, which makes it attractive socially.

Naturally/evolutionary, uniformization should not be attractive. Similar to how inbreeding is not biologically desirable.

I appreciate that despite you not being affected by being short you can recognise that some men are, the whole “ im insert random thing and havent had any problems” annecdotal argument is really annoying sometimes.

This comes under the problematically polar type of discussion for me. One side says it's completely irrelevant, the other says it's the be-all and end-all. It is significant in human interactions, but it is one pf many factors. I feel that societal attitudes should absolutely change though...not much hope for that.

I've been calling them out for height supremacy on dating apps.

They're mad.

Largely because I compared it to "weight discrimination" and apparently involving the word weight really gets them upset.

I wonder why that is?

You'd have to fundamentally change our education system or at least social parenting advice, encouraging self-awareness and teaching people their feelings are essentially the animalistic part of their consciousness. Women often fall into an issue where they lie to themselves and the world what it is they are looking for in a romantic partner while simultaneously giving too much importance to a generalized, biased, evolutionarily sculpted neurological reflex, their emotions. Women in paticular tend to suffer from not understanding how their actions run counter to their stated goals and their stated goals run counter to their subconscious goals. It's one of the many cases were both sexes suffer from sexist social constructs with a probabilistic lean towards a paticular sex.

I don't think there is a physical characteristic comparable to height, it is not a simple canon of beauty.

Many women have a serious problem with shorter guys, it's not a simple preference (in most cases it's a must). Short men are seen by many (not all) women as weak and too feminine (evidently it is wrong for men to have "feminine characteristics").

Being short for many people is a trait that only has to be feminine, if you are shorter than a girl you are likely to question her femininity (reminds me of many feminists screaming at male frailty but in this case that's okay).

I have read independent and strong women several times but having a height requirement so they can feel a little feminine (being independent and strong is too masculine, so you have to balance the situation a bit with a guy who makes them feel smaller).

Many shorter girls make me laugh because they actively seek a taller boy so they can have tall children, they see being short only as a genetic defect (Tall = good gene, Short = bad gene).

Bisexual girls also seem to prefer taller men while this requirement is non-existent for girls.

It is also not uncommon for a girl to be judged for choosing a shorter guy by friends and family.

I don't remember such a generalized preference having so many implications for gender roles.

Many times I have read that the comparison between height and eye or hair color but it makes no sense.

Most males will not feel uncomfortable or perceive their "masculinity" undermined by a girl with short black hair. There are certainly men who feel threatened by a taller girl but most will not mind, this seems to me to be mainly a female problem.

Most of the cases it is enough to be taller than the girls, if you are shorter than the female average things will be much more difficult but not impossible. However I am noticing an improvement going on, compared to 10/15 years ago it is more common to find couples where the man is at the same height or even shorter than the girl.

What makes you say that? Do you have access to an alternate reality where you were a different height to be able to compare?

Or are you merely stating that there has been no discrimination towards you that explicitly mentioned it was about your height.

I'm a guy who likes guys and idk, i like tall men, i have gender dysphoria so being with a guy who's shorter than i am makes me feel freakishly tall and it's kinda impossible to get over, it's really unpleasant.

it's also a biological thing though i think, i want a bf who can protect me if something happens to us. i can't really defend myself very well at all and i think it's part of my sexual drive to find someone who could help defend me.

idk, it's messed up but I'm not sure how we could fix it. I might make an exception for a trans guy considering i kinda see that situation differently and holding his hight against him would feel fucked up but idk
