I don't know how I feel about this. I'm glad DeSantis signed this bill and all, but Republicans and conservatives are overall not very good for egalitarianism. They want men to still adhere to gender roles. Why do you think they're still complaining about men wearing dresses or "men being demasculinized" or whatever.

Men going from the left-wing to the right-wing is like running away from a parent that hates you and living with your other parent who only likes you if you act in a specific manner.

In my country there's a constitution draft we're voting in September where it says men can take no more than 50% of administrative charges of all branches of government. That roof only exists for men, so 52% men is inconstitutional but 96% women not. This is right there, clear as day, in the first fucking page. And then, right after establishing this fucked up concept of "parity", they impose all judges must consider "gender perspective" when ruling their verdicts. I don't think I need to explain how terrible this can be.

It's radicalizing right-wing people further to the right, it makes the left less appealing to the center, and it makes a lot of leftists disillusioned politically.

The NOW statement is two ~~arguments~~ "arguments".

First, they claim that alimony doesn't need to be changed and that cancelling existing alimony "agreements" would be unconstitutional and "sets a dangerous precedent for contractual agreements in Florida".

If divorce law in Florida was already fair then there's nothing wrong with stopping permanent alimony, which treats women like feeble, helpless creatures who always have to be supported by a men.

(Keep in mind that this is a policy that the Florida National Organization of Women supports. Very much like conservatives in that regard.)

If divorce law in Florida were fair, then nothing will change when the state starts to prohibit against the award of alimony to the women when her net income exceeds the net income of the man.

Or the reasonable assumption that both parties will have a lower standard of living after the divorce. This means men won't have to provide their divorceés with a higher standard of living than they currently are able to afford.

So, the question now becomes: If alimony law is so fair, why is NOW worried about 'contracts being cancelled unconstitutionally'?

Surely this bill won't produce any changes for those paying or receiving alimony because all cases have been already justly dispensed because alimony law in Florida is already equitable and doesn't need changing.

So what contracts will be cancelled?

Enough sarcasm. Their worry about contracts being cancelled clearly show that they know these very reasonable limits on alimony will create equitable changes for men in Florida and organizations like NOW always see equality for men as inequality for women.

Second argument is a strawman.

Can I take a pause and get a quick straw poll ^{^{^Yup}} of how many here are sick to death of strawmans and other fallacies from feminists and the woke?

Anyone who can't honestly restate the position of their opponent has no business discussing whatever the issue is.

If you want to participate, learn the rules, learn the skills, and respect the community. It's the same as any other hobby, sport, job or skill but since social media, everyone seems to think they're experts at something they've had no education, training or practice with.

NOW's strawman:

SB 1796 mandates 50/50 custody of minor children.

No. The bill creates a rebuttal presumption that "equal time-sharing with minor children is in the best interests of a child".

All this means is that the court is now required to presume that 50/50 custody is in the best interest of the child and then go from there.

Despite the NOW's hysterical ^{^{^Yup}} claims, this in no way means that 50/50 custody is mandated. It just means a judge can't begin court proceedings with the assumption that it's in the best interest of the child to be with their mother.

This is a perfect example of how feminists want equality for women at the expense of men's equality.

The presumption in the bill is a perfectly equitable place for the court to begin the case but feminists are strongly advocating for the judges to be allowed to act on their own biases and opinions that not only favour women but act against the interest of men (and their children).

DeSantis' role in this has to be addressed since this is leftwingmaleadvocates but I honestly don't know what to say except that I feel I've grown beyond holding down good actions because they came from bad people, which is what I think DeSantis is.

The person and his policies are despicable to me but people are incredibly complex and it's not surprising that my interests will sometimes align with people who hold views I think are unhealthy for our society.

After all, NOW's overlapped with conservative values twice now in this one comment. (Although to be frank that is much less of a surprise.)

Does anyone know the status of the parental resources that were proposed?

Was that axed or did it make it into this one?

The state currently offers resources for mothers that single fathers don't have access to.

This was from the house bill that was debated along side the senate bill (both usually need to be passed to make it to the governor).

HB 7065, a $70 million initiative, will provide resources for educational and mentorship programs to help children, fathers and families in the state through the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

DJJ will create a mentorship program to help at-risk youth through the new initiative, hosting various programs such as barbershop talks and fatherhood classes.

DCF will also launch a statewide campaign to raise awareness around the importance of fatherhood, supporting nonprofit organizations to help fathers stay engaged and connect with their children, along with case managers and resources to assist fathers looking for employment opportunities.

The new initiative comes as more than 18 million children in the U.S. do not have a father in their home, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

I haven't read why the opposition doesn't like the bill, but upon reading the bill I don't see too many things that seem "dangerous" to women.

The main thing is the abolishment of life long alimony, something that this day and age should no longer be considered as the norm to begin with. Many women are in the work force and even if a mother was the primary caretaker, she typically could only be as much because her partner provided for that to happen.

In the days where women were not allowed to work, get a higher education and had no government assistance something like alimony made sense. Now, in todays world? No! All alimony does is incentives one party to dissolve the marriage with zero consequences. When only 1 party has something to lose its easy for the other party to hold all the power and cards in the relationship.

Next they need to go after child support laws, the way they are setup currently is very problematic. In my opinion if both parents are equally able to care for the child then the child should go to the person with the means to care for the child financially. By awarding child support to the parent who CANNOT provide a basic status of living for the child they rely on the other parent to supplement for their failures.

I mean when you think about it, if a man doesn't pay child support he can end up in jail but if the mother can only support the child because of the father paying child support then why isn't she being punished for her failure to support the child as well?
