Yes. It started as a meme for people being rude to retail workers, which I get. They suck. But now it’s just a word to hate or harass women with. The other day I saw a video of protesters yelling at a pregnant woman that she was a Karen because she had to pee. There is a lack of empathy that goes along with this. Anyone that is a woman (I haven’t been pregnant) but you know you cannot control your own body. I feel so sad when I see this term being used now because it is being applied to almost any woman they don’t like.

It's become a derogatory term, yet people can't even come up with a solid name for the male counterpart of it. Not up for debate to women, no choice there, but everyone is up in arms over to what to call the men. 🙄

"Karen" used to mean a racist middle aged woman who is mean to (usually black and brown) workers. That sort of person deserves to be mocked.

Now, it's become overused and gets thrown around anytime a woman expresses an opinion. It's now used as a misogynistic slur intended to silence ALL women.

I don’t wanna defend the “Karens” because I despise people who are rude to retail workers. I just don’t get why are people singling out rude women. Men do the same shit and more, because they also sexually harass the workers.

I’m very angry that the Karen phenomenon has become mainstream discourse now. It shows up in major newspapers now, calling women “Karens” as though it’s an agreed upon term. It was never that funny and now it’s straight out sexism and ageism. I really feel it’s leading to “older” women, all women really, being silenced and afraid to speak out for fear of being called a Karen and publicly shamed. Women are being told now that if they call the police on a man who’s trespassing or harassing them, they’re being a Karen. It’s out of control.

Personally I refer to myself as a proud Karen. Makes the SJWs so mad 😂

Karen is just a term invented to punish women for speaking up for their standards and wants. Women don't need to be "nice" when someone is incompetent or disrespect toward them--not at work, not at home, and not when they're paying someone to deliver a service. PERIOD. Anything else is just soaking in smug misogyny. It's ultimately a hatred of women demanding anything because how dare we. And you know it's based in that because there is no male equivalent of a "Karen". Its all female socialization to be nice and keep quiet even when shit isn't going right. It's also racist as fuck toward white women. In my opinion more women need to be Karens and demand satisfaction to their standards in everything. Let them mock us for it 🤷‍♀️🖕

I posted somewhere else and got labeled as a Karen. Apparently, they went through my comment history and determined I was Karen-esque. That's really all it takes. Someone just needs to either not like you, your comment, your comment history, or disagree with you in general and bam, you're an instant Karen! The name doesn't even mean anything to me anymore.

Didn't it start like that? On reddit? As a synonym for bitch because of a man's ex wife called Karen who he hated and posted about, incessantly? I'm pretty sure MRAs used to use it all the time about custody battles, like 4 years ago maybe. Karen = your ex wife who "stole your kids". This "rude to retail workers" thing is folk etymology as far as I know, and you can tell because despite people claiming otherwise, people are only saying "Kyle" in response to this point. Like how men only care about international men's day on international women's day lmao. People will actually say "male Karen" on the infrequent occasion they want a male equivalent term (like "man slut" and again, only women can be sluts, not because men don't sleep around, but because of misogyny). But men don't divorce reddit men and "steal" their kids, so of course it's a female-only word. (Men actually, you know, kill retail workers though...)

It's good to have an easy red flag like this though. Men might avoid saying bitch or whore to you at first not because they respect women but because they're trying to avoid swearing, but Karen is supposedly polite :)

When women stand up for themselves or occasionally complain, this is worthy of a special, denigrating title. When men act belligerent, entitled and insufferable, well, they must have had a good reason to be that way! Everything men do is perfect and rational, everything women do is wrong. All the bad things on earth are all women's fault. I even read from that moron Sargon of Akkad that world wars and civilisations crumbling are women's fault. Make it make sense!
