Attempts? You mean dysfunctional attempts to garner sympathy, affection, attention, and to divert from their own behavior before they are exposed?
Performative art is not an 'attempt'
[–]C-Dub178 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
This is why I don’t tell anyone when I’m thinking about suicide. I don’t want people to think I’m just saying/attempting for attention.
[+]kiadragon -9 points-8 points-7 points 3 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link
No. I am not the reason you don't talk to people. I was referencing a very common phenomena that is documented. Young women fake suicide attempts more often than young men.
Now if you want to drama llama about how comments like this are going to prevent you from getting help, then you are being performative as well.
If you need help with suicidal thoughts you seek it from professionals, family, friends, pastor, etc. You don't come on Reddit and complain you aren't getting help because people say mean things about other people and you have to make it all about you.
That is attention seeking. You been hanging out with Amber Heard? Nothing is your own responsibility, huh? Everything bad is because of someone else, huh? Because someone said something mean about other people, you won't access help?
Naw.
[–]C-Dub178 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I wasn’t accusing you of anything. I’m stating the fact that I never went seeking help, or vent to anyone because nobody would take me seriously. Either I’m faking for attention or it just doesn’t matter because I’m an expendable man. I’m saying I don’t want to be grouped in with the fakers.
This website is anonymous. So me making this comment isn’t trying to get attention or anything. The most I’d get is a message from that stupid bot who I blocked. Besides, I never told you why I’ve thought/attempted in the past
I take responsibility for my actions. Very fucking bold of you to make all of these assumptions based on a vague two sentence comment.

Not that I disagree with you completely, but to play devils advocate here:
Whenever you die do you have to clean up your own corpse?
The argument here is that women don't commit suicide because they don't want their loved ones to find their body. It is basically an argument that men are less considerate.

If I wrote an article about males suffering from domestic violence, and feminists say 'women suffer more, how dare you ignore women'. Would you find that reasonable?
Do you think articles about males suffering from domestic violence need to mention that women suffer more in the article?
[–]C-Dub178 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Dawg this is the cdc it shouldn’t be an opinion piece focusing on one group
[–]RaceCarTracker 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So if the CDC wrote an article about males suffering from domestic violence, you would say it's inappropriate and wrong?
[–]C-Dub178 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’d say they should be writing about dv in general.
[–]SpookeyClown 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If the CDC wrote an article saying "Domestic Violence is evil. Especially among men." I'd say that's inappropriate and wrong. If it was titled "Domestic Violence against men is evil" that'd be fine. One is comparing the magnitude of the problem between groups (it's MORE evil when done to one than the other) while the other is simply focusing on one group.
[–]AgeofAmnesia 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
The phrase "A Growing Epidemic, Especially Among Women." The word especially is comparative language. And if you're comparing two groups like this, the especially belongs to the majority group (men in this instance). If the article wants to just focus on reporting the growing opiate overdose among women then it should titled it "A Growing Epidemic Among Women." That way the article does not focus on women's problem in relation to mens.
While it seems minor -- and it is -- that phrase "especially women" is used very frequently among misandrist articles to the point it's triggering.

Typical feminism. I remember reading an article about workplace deaths. The feminist was whining a out the signficant increase in female deaths, such that instead of men being 92% of workplace deaths, they were only 91%. That 1% shift towards women was cause for alarm. And yet they have the gall to moan about patriarchy.
[–]point-virgule1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
There was an uproar in my country because, despite wonen being overtly represented in the cleaning industry, the few men there where making in average more than women. So reaffirming the wage gap, claiming discrimination and what not.
Then, the (almost entirelly female staffed) ministry of equality took that personally and forced companies to pay the same to both men and women, as "the job was the same"
It was found out that the ones that choose to clean offices from the outside hanging outside from ropes, be it wind, under a blazing sun or chilling cold. where men and, thus received and extra hazard pay, with equal base pay to the ones cleaning from the inside.
This was dismissed as another symptom of patriarchy and eventually everyone got paid the same. Despite everyone free to evaluate and choose either job, with the added risks and corresponding benefits.

This would be like an article about male rape. It happens to women more so don't write articles about how it happens to men.
Articles should only be written about who it happens more to. The other gender shouldn't get any articles.
So no articles about female pain killer overdoses and no articles about male rape. No articles about men being murdered by their partner and no articles about female workplace deaths.
Here's the link to the article that should be banned. Focusing on women here is unacceptable.

Overall men die younger, work more dangerous jobs where loss of life is more likely, are drafted into wars without a choice, are far more likely to be homeless and have higher suicide rates. None of these issues hold a candle to something like "women's body issues" in terms of exposure. It comes as no shock to me that they worded it that way.
[–]Exotic_Midnight4652 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is something I need to say here as it has been on my mind for weeks:
Woman is in the minority of something: “women deserve appreciation for standing up to the patriarchy to enter this position! women deserve recognition” (cough cough), military
When men are in the minority of something: “but women are the majority! it’s a women’s issue/position!” (cough) rape statistics, domestic abuse, etc.
[–]NOSCharhar 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't understand this sub sometimes. I feel like this takes away from real Men's rights issue.
They justify wording it this way because it's an alarming trend. If that rate held up, women would have almost have more deaths than men by now. It doesn't mean "women are superior". It means an institution is trying to do its job by being proactive in catching trends regarding prescription deaths.
[–]Haiel10000 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I like how percentages are great to reinforce bias. Later in the text he uses the increase in % to make his point more clear. A 400% increase for women and a 265% for men.

If you hang around mens rights spaces long enough this is what happens. You start to see bullshit where there isn't any. I'm a big advocate for men's rights. But this is harmless. Men are more affected by painkillers, yes, and it's important to lessen that epidemic. But it's also important to understand why the amount of women dying to painkillers is increasing and deal with that, too. And the differences between the sexes means that there's are probably different factors at play, so we need to differentiate between men and women when we're talking about deaths and addiction.
More men being affected by painkillers doesn't mean that they're the only ones we should talk about.
[–]Throwawayyacc22 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They say the same thing about unaliving, it’s disgusting, I’m not sure why we feel the need to be sexist on such topics, men are much more likely to unalive themselves but somehow it’s twisted and almost ignored, it’s disgusting to see the statistics and nobody is making an effort to figure out why men do this, I think we all know why, but everyone ignores it.

Just seems like they're saying "women's death by prescription painkiller overdose is on the rise, although still behind men", which is completely fair and accurate. I don't read any particular tone in this text at all, this seems like OP is kind of projecting.
[–]gckman915 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This isn't necessarily wrong. It's stating that more women are becoming junkies and dying, where that wasn't the case before. I wonder what is causing this sharp rise in overdoses among women. 🤔
[–]Riptionator 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well obviously men are to blame for the rise in deaths. I'm sure patriarchy, sexism, white supremacy, something or other catch phrase buzz word oppression...
[–]sorebum405 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The main thing they highlight in the article is that there was a sharper increase in pain killer overdose deaths among women then men from 1999-2010.However, I think it is sort of misleading to look at the relative increase instead of the absolute increase in pain killer overdose deaths. If we look at things in absolutes there were 1,287 women who died in 1999 and 6,631 women who died in 2010 from opioid overdose according to their chart. That is 5,344 additional women who died. They don't give us the the numbers for men over the years, but since they say it was a 265% increase we can do the math and figure out that about 3,773 men died of pain killer overdose in 1999, and 10,000 died in 2010.That is 6,227 additional men who died.So the absolute increase was more for men.
[–]dojoboy 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When prescribing painkillers, health care providers can
Recognize that women are at risk of prescription painkiller overdose.
Follow guidelines for responsible prescribing, including screening and monitoring for substance abuse and mental health problems.
Use prescription drug monitoring programs to identify patients who may be improperly obtaining or using prescription painkillers and other drugs.
No mention of " Recognize that men are 50% more likely".

[–]SamaelET 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I making a scretche because once again the CDC decide to make a special guideline for women and not men even though men are more affected by an issue. This is not a scretch this is a systemic issue in almost every health agencies : ignoring male health issues and focusing on women no matter how much more men are affected. They gender issues and give special care and priority for women but refuse to do the same for men. They fight painkillers death and women's painkillers death. Women are given extra care, attention and ressource and their specifities are taken into account.
I don’t think we believe in the same thing. I am not giving a pass for public health authority to be biased toward women and ignoring men.
Look at CDC's website, they have absolutely no page, and certainly no guidelines and warnings about men being more affected, on men's death caused by painkillers.

[–]SamaelET 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The issue is not them mentionning this. The issue is them making a page, guidelines/recommandations for women but not for men even though men are the majority of death related to painkillers.

About 18 women die every day of a prescription painkiller overdose in the US, more than 6,600 deaths in 2010. Prescription painkiller overdoses are an under-recognized and growing problem for women.
That's the point of the article. It's a an under-recognized and growing problem among women.
Everyone is aware of the prescription drug problem men face, but aren't as aware that women's overdoses are on the rise.
Considering that, it makes sense that the article would word it in such a way.

So men are 50% more likely to die from it than women but the rise in women's death is of more concern ? Like the possibility that women's death will get higher in the future is more important than the fact that men's death was higher all these year, is still higher and will at the very least stay higher for quite a few year ?
The number of male victims of DV and rape increase every year more than the number of women. But they never make it an excuse to focus solely on male victims. Weird insn't it ?
Also since more men are already dying, the 235% increase represents a higher number than the 400% increase...

I'll be honest, this is alarming. Sometimes the sources for these kind of posts are way off the beaten path of the internet so i do not tend take them too seriously because otherwise i am just playing into the reactionary game where nobody wins. Society thinks our lives are expendable. Life is valued based on what is between the legs.

They predicate their worldview on men being expendable utilities, and women not.

I bet they would cry out for men if half the population dropped from the fucking planet. Also those women who love men would probably go to war.

It's a lie to say the gap is closing too.

lmfao a slap in the face to any man reading and trying to find government support for his painkiller habit that’s for sure
though i’m sure the govt would be happy if there’s one less man needing help
The gap is closing people. Hurry a woman may be in danger.

You don’t give a fuck about prescription pain killer deaths, you’re just giving a fuck about ‘who has more’ in comparisons. Lmao.
[–]AveryFakeLastName 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok. The real concern here is what are the painkillers and why is half the population overdosing on them more and more each year over the last decade? Are they opioids? Opioids are way too addictive and seem to be prescribed for fucking everything pain related despite the risks. We still have cases of nurses stealing opioid prescriptions to get their fix so its a massive issue. What I think is happening over the last 10 years is anecdotal but Im sure others can back it up.
My sister and mother both had issues with severe pain a few years ago. My sisters leg. My mothers wrist. Our family doctor thought it was all in their heads and didnt do shit. My brother had leg pain and the doctor prescribed him painkillers on the spot.
In Canada. We have a big issue with our doctors not taking womens pain seriously. We have a horror story on this every other week it seems like but its been slowly getting better. If we assume its the same in America, then over the last 10 years womens pain has started being taken more seriously. Meaning more women are being prescribed opioids and thus more women are dying of overdoses of prescription pain killers year after year. Compare this to the men who doctors will more readily prescribe opioids and you see the overdoses for women going up year after year while for men it tends to hover on the same area.
This is less a "women have it worse than men" thing, and more of a doctors are prescribing addictive painkillers to women more often now and its leading to women and men dying of overdoses much more evenly than before.
The real issue here is that we're still using fucking opioids for everything instead of finding a less addictive alternative. Seriously, over 16600 people were dying yearly to prescribed painkillers. It doesnt matter what gender you are, that number is way too fucking high and more needs to be done to reduce it.

why does it matter??? suicide is a problem that needs to be solved, no matter the gender..... Right??????
