How do you think beauty filters on social media will affect dating in the future?

I think that the attention that people receive while in a filtered state boosts their ego and causes them to be more picky and choose other people assuming that their filtered looks level is their real life level. This is already happening though so I don't expect it to change any more significantly than it already has.

Unless we are all walking around with high-tech contact lenses on, it will mean nothing in the real world.

To date someone you have to actually meet them in person. People already use 10-year-old photos of themselves and then get rejected when they meet in person. Most people quickly learn not to waste their and others' time.

In addition to filters and photo editing, fake profiles, zombie accounts and scammers are common on many dating sites. I think people are becoming aware that what they see on dating sites and reality are probably very different. It means more wasted time and money.

They lower women's IRL self esteem (and the few men who use them too) because we don't have filters in real life. This is especially prevalent in women who weren't blessed with naturally pretty faces. So it probably won't be a net positive effect, unless you think too many women have a big ego I guess.

Idk, but I am hoping that if I ever become single again. I will get points from dudes for not obviously using them. When normally they might have nexted me but thought not to because "Hm, well she at least she is being honest!"

I can't imagine it changing much. People have always used old photos or especially good ones. Even photos of other people. This isn't any different really.

Filters have already existed for ages. People know pictures of others aren't necessarily representative. But as dating requires, you know, going on dates, or at least physically meeting, this can only affect any relationship for a very limited amount of time if at all (as most meet in person rather than online).

Most of social media "trends" is a bunch of fakery revolving around a yet-unclosed algorithmic holes. Most normal people are too concerned with earning for a living, raising kids, and otherwise living a boring life. Primitive "beauty filters" such as star crown, anime eyes, or blush, were in place for ages already, and didn't affect much. Looking better on social media than you are in real life goes back to the time of Myspace relevance.

In general, I see a possible positive outcome of this technology, if it's possible to take a couple cellphones (10+ years ahead of the ones we have now) and turn lovemaking into a date with your favorite fictional character on both sides.

I know these sorts of filters are already screwing with esteem. I’ve seen countless friends of mine that are girls begin in middle school with whatever Snapchat filter and constantly use them and through highschool they slowly switch to face tuning every photo they post on Instagram. Some of these women are absolutely stunning naturally but can’t see past the artificial “better” version of themselves. I kinda knew they’d ruin my self image so I never used them but it does make me sad. It’s the perfect unrealistic beauty ideal because it looks like the “better” version of you that you can never achieve.

Men are still too stupid to understand how makeup works. I highly doubt their ability to understand filters. They'll more than likely just fuck the woman anyway assuming that she was someone else or that her pictures were "old".
