I'm 28 and going through a divorce with my 26 year old wife. We were together 7 years. Just got married 8 months ago, and now she wants out. I was toxic and controlling through a lot of our relationship due to my own insecurities and upbringing, and it just started to get to be too much for her. She thought I would change after we got married, but obviously I didn't. I wish she gave me more of a chance to change since I now know exactly the type of man I need to be for her or any other partner in the future, but unfortunately that's not the case. Things moved really fast and I was kind of blindsided by all of this.

I can't get over this feeling of absolute dread that I just lost the best thing that ever happened to me. She was so beautiful, kind, and everything I wanted in a woman, with just minor flaws that I blew up because of my own ego. I, on the other hand, am a decent looking guy, with a great career, and in good shape, but I'm short and that causes a lot of women to look away before I even get a chance. She was out of my league. I feel like I'll never get anyone as good as her ever again, and I'll end up having to settle in the future.

I know you guys preach that being alone isn't always a bad thing, but I want to share my life with someone special. I'm not sure what I'm looking for here, or if I'm just venting, but how do I change my outlook on this? I get that I have to spend this time "working on myself" but I still don't know what that looks like for me or how it translates to finding someone like her.
