I mean, I'll give the bbc credit. This segment pretty effectivley demonstrates the challenges faced my advocating for men and men's issues. Couldn't stay on topic for 5 minutes.

From the premise of the segment to the end the topic issue was side-lined.

Men have obviously have and arguably taken a lot of flack, rightly in the past few years post #meetoo

With Ava Evans stating there should be on a Minister for Mental Health, then the focus should be on children.

Then Frances O'Grady did a hold my beer. Brings up boys shouldn't be taught bravado then brings up a unrelated point -- the 'gender pay gap' and sexual harassment.

Norcots' point was proved throughout. Whenever an issue that predominantly affects men anything and everything will be used to side-line the issue which means nothing will change.

The funny thing here, I only came aware of this segment because of the comments made by Laurence Fox.

Ava Evans was debating the issue with comedian Geoff Norcott, who has written a new book The British Bloke Decoded, amid calls from Tory MP Nick Fletcher for a minister for men.

I'm not the biggest fan of Geoff Norcott since he did that radio 4 show which was meant to show people from all over the political spectrum, and everyone on it was right wing. But I thought he did very well here. Ava started minimising problems that men experience, then Frances O'Grady started going on about completely unrelated issues in an attempt to discredit him. He dealt with it all very well and calmly pointed out that they were carrying out exactly what he had already described, where mens issues are minimised or ignored. Glad the BBC are promoting him and his book.

That video was a rollercoaster.

The lady in the middle was giving him space to talk, was asking questions neutrally and seemed interested in letting him say his piece. Thought "oh wow, this might actually be a decent discussion. Props to BBC for giving men space to talk about male-specific issues."

And then the other two women jumped in. Holy fuck. The comment about women supposedly being more useful than men during the pandemic to divert focus from the issue of men dying way more than women from covid was wild enough, let alone the whole shutting him down from spreading awareness that maybe it wouldn't hurt to have something in place to reduce male suicide rates.

I left very impressed with how he handled the situation and disgusted how those women handled it, though they perhaps helped us out in the long run with their abhorrent behavior.

Men have 'rightly' taken a lot of flak? We're a monolith I guess.

There are female exclusive services and laws but the moment there is a suggestion for a minister for men it needs to be gender neutral.

Women were doing the most housework during covid lockdown? Why was she illegally out in public peeping through people's windows.

Why all the whataboutism regarding suicide? Earnings are a more concerning matter than death . We can't even discuss mgm in discussions about fgm. Supposedly we don't care about men, we only care about minimising women's issues. Here they are throwing up every issue they can think of, so using their logic, they don't care about women, they're just minimising men's issues. Classic feminist projection.

'In the way women stand by men', you two ladies demonstrated that really well.

Outstanding display of empathy for men's issues. Geoff handled it pretty well though.

If this had been a discussion about women's issues, there would have been no men on the panel.

Personally, I'm happy to see women talking about men's issues, but with topics like this guests should be chosen based on their expertise or insight, rather than purely on their opposition to other guests' views. It isn't a topic that needs 'balance', which too often for the BBC means an argument with unhinged people. Instead of understanding and knowledge, this approach produces division and misinformation.

Fucking hell that was painful to watch, I hated it

I also hate how the two men basically HAVE to « validate » their feelings everytime to not make things even more wrong. It's always like « oh yeah but women's issues are also bad for women » as if it was on topic. We still have a long way to go clearly.

« Women have been oppressed for years » they can't even say that it's not important on the actual discussion. Are they talking to human beings ? Do they really need to be cuddled that much in order to hear what we have to say or are they wired like infants ?

At this point i blame men. I blame men for being stupid enough to believe that feminism fights for them. I blame men for sacrificing their time, resources and energy fighting for women instead of themselves. I blame men for allowing feminism to define what masculinity is, how they should behave and what they should want. A large number of men are realising this and the right has also successfully capitalised on this. That's why a guy like Andrew Tate is so influential. He tells young men to selfishly pursue what they want. That its okay to be masculine and to like masculine things. That the world is against them so they should focus on what they want. To put their needs/wants first and foremost. Feminism tells women the same thing but somehow its wrong when men decide to do it and men are waking up to this.

Ava can be a fairly solid journalist, and is actually left leaning, however this exchange shows how toxic feminist ideology is, that calling for equality can be met with near open ridicule, even around topics such as suicide.
