I think I went through a uniquely modern divorce. My ex’s father had passed from cancer and afterwards I brought fun, laughter, and great intimacy to her life. I helped her grieve. I let her cry on my shoulder.

But in this economy I didn’t have the income for us to move in together at that time. So her wealthy silent gen mother bought a condo in her name and has us live in it.

After a while the tables had turned. I was no longer the hero who saved her, and her mother was our provider. I was a liberal until I realized what an unnatural arrangement this is, which could have only happened in a society of wealthy elderly people and young people stripped of all wealth.

I predict more divorces, as women try to turn the tables on us, against nature.
