This is something I've been thinking about. My best answers:
Make friends with a social connector, and make friends with the people he hangs out with, essentially integrating yourself into his existing group of friends.
You be the social connector, get the name and number of every cool person you meet, and invite them to cool events that you put on (even if that's just going out to the bar). Create your own social group.

I'm in the process of #2 right now, and it does work. You kind of approach it like pickup for wings. You have to do most of what you do with picking up a girl (except kino, lol) to make the # close not seem weird.
That said it's a LOT easier. Basically just make it clear that you like going out to pickup chicks and if they think it's cool then say you will invite them along next time.

fuck....no wonder...

Helloooo...
[–]adriens 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
But seriously, no lie, ever since I started dressing well I've attracted more females, but exponentially more gays. They must like short guys.
[–]GayPUA 7 points8 points9 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Maybe gay guys like straight seeming men who dress well? I'd have to guess it's this.
[–]testmypatience5 points 14 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Is this how you prefer them GayPUA?
[–]GayPUA 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
;D
[–]adriens 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT???
In all seriousness, everyone, male or female, straight gay or bi, likes men who dress well :-p
[–]reph 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Or well-dressed guys.
[–]adriens 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well-dressed short guys makes for a killer one-two punch
[–]DJohnsonCA 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ah! After the non-weird # close THEN you start the kino.
[–]sedditor_prime 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Now you're getting it!!
[–]GayPUA 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I did this with another PUA I met through seddit before I moved. It worked out pretty well, and we both improved our game.
There's nothing that says you can't practice kino on each other. Kino makes everyone feel more comfortable around you, not just women. Interestingly enough, people are less likely to act like they are thinking, "What the hell is this faggot doing talking to me", when I've touched their elbow or back before starting a conversation.
[–]testmypatience2 points 14 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
The casual throw your arm around them like your old buddies seems to work well. It's what jocks do around each other. It shows you are comfortable with yourself and that they are under YOUR wing. We humans are weird haha.
[–]sedditor_prime 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Good point! Now that I think about it I've fallen into naturally kino'in everyone I interact with, just in different ways. A pat on the back, high fives, shit like that is totally bro-friendly and makes things more comfortable.
[–]Tarblz 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't understand this kino thing. How exactly is being touched by some random stranger comforting? If someone I don't know (Hell, even if they are someone I do know) is touching me, I get weirded the fuck out.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Does shaking hands and high fives with strangers really weird you out? Simple touches on the arm are common too. Normal everyday people do it with strangers all the time. I hope you understand that most of us have absolutely zero desire to make any stranger do anything they are uncomfortable with.

I got lucky, my brother goes to the same college I do(I'm not here because of him, I'm a chemistry major and this college has an AMAZING chemistry program) and his apartment is like number 1 or 2 for parties on campus. His roommate had sex with my girlfriend, but really it was a bad relationship, and it was actually my fault, but nonetheless, I'm still cool with him, because he is a social connector. He's full of energy and people talk to him alot, so he'll invite lots of people to parties, where I now have a common factor and have alot to talk about with these girls.
[–]dand11587 37 points38 points39 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The shit some people will rationalize man. For the love of God, why?
WHY?!!!
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
Well, honestly I don't know why I said I'm cool with him BECAUSE he's a social connector. Things happened, and I'm cool with him, and being cool with him has a benefit of him being a social connector.
I could tell you why she cheated on me with him, and why I didn't kick his ass or anything, but that's a long ass story and I don't think it'd benefit anyone to listen to my babbling. :P
[–]StormTAG 9 points10 points11 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Not to be mean, but it didn't stop you the first time. Your post could've boiled down to... "I have family on campus who throws good parties."
Of course, I'm not criticizing. I'm a rambler and a champ at it.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Haha very true, I have a horrible habit of elaborating on things, I want to get my point across without any confusion, but it boils down to a 6 paragraph post.
[–]StormTAG 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I do that A LOT. Something I'm working on.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Time to practice keeping long story short:
She was a bitch, she ended up being overprotective of me, so I ended up being overprotective of her. Because she wouldn't let me go to my friends birthday party, and I went anyway because who the fuck are you to tell me where I can't go, she decided to retaliate by having sex with this guy. Needless to say we broke up. He came to me the next day, admitted he fucked up, said he was drunk(he's rarely sober at night) and told me he'd understand if I wanted to beat his ass. He even braced for a punch and was like dammit get it over with. I was pissed, but thinking about it, he got me out of that relationship, I should be grateful. He had the balls and respect for me to tell me what he did, apologize sincerely, and expect to get his ass beat. Then I went to the club a few times with him, he's a great wingman. He's my brother's roommate so if I ever hang out with my brother I have to deal with him. Pretty much I suck at holding grudges, and said fuck it. I was too insecure with her anyway.
Don't you regret asking? >.<
[–]DJohnsonCA 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
That does sound reasonable (of you and him). Good post.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I thought it showed a lot more character in him than I thought he had, and while I don't know if I'd be able to trust him alone with a girlfriend of mine, I don't feel it's a reason to just whoop his ass. Another reason why I didn't is I'm 6'1'' and ~250 lbs, he's probably 5'11'' and 120 lbs. I'd break him in half, not on purpose :(
[–]zubana22 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
you're gf seems to have good rational. You disobey her, she fucks ure brothers friend.
[–]otayyo 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I live by that policy.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I should probably specify ex-gf lol but yeah, right? trust me, that doesn't even begin to explain her rationale.
[–]zubana221 point 14 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
so she was an ex at the time she "cheated" cause thats not how i interpeted your story
[–][deleted]1 point 14 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I should have been more specific; I broke up with her because she cheated on me.
kk i figured
[–]ShamwowTseDung 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
and it was actually my fault
it's may be your fault for going out with her, I don't know how she's been before. BUT it is not your fault she cheated.
and if you were friends with that roommate before it happened, stop hanging the fuck out with him. unless you like to keep enemies close - cause that isn't a friend.
Man up.
edit*
and why I didn't kick his ass
any guy who fights another guy over a girl who cheated (read: she did, not he, unless you're bi...) on him should be glad to know: while you two idiots are in jail, the hospital, or dead - said girl is out having an mmmmf and could not give any less of a fuck.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
BUT it is not your fault she cheated.
Well, I shouldn't take blame for it, I know, but I do personally only to improve on my own self. I feel as if when I blame myself for it because of my insecurities, I'll try harder to work out these insecurities. It's not like disobeying my master <s> is grounds enough to cheat on me.
unless you like to keep enemies close - cause that isn't a friend.
You see, idk if I really consider him a friend. He's trying damn hard to suck up to me, which makes me feel uncomfortable, as if theres something beyond what he did that I don't know. I personally don't trust him, and beyond his connections, he doesn't serve any purpose to me(as crude as that sounds).
while you two idiots are in jail, the hospital, or dead - said girl is out having an mmmmf and could not give any less of a fuck.
See, and that's something I couldn't agree with more. Why the hell would I break bones because some whore decided she wanted to get a little summin on the side? The most damaging thing I could've done(and I actually did) in my opinion was to act as if it wasn't a big deal, and that it wasn't a big deal at all that we broke up. Lo and behold she tried texting me later on, adding me on facebook, etc. I replied minimally to the texts and ignored the friend request, and now she really means nothing to me. No sarcasm there at all.
[–]ShamwowTseDung 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You should only be improving your choice in women. I don't really know the girl or your relationship with her. There could have been signs from the beginning that would've let you know this was bound to happen - but on the other hand, she could've hidden it really well.
That's why I say if she cheated on you, it's not your fault. But if you knew her type and you still got upset when shit hit the fan, it's on you.
But don't think you're the reason someone else fucks themselves up. That's a messed up thought to carry around. And it's not true. Whoever says that is being selfish and wants you to feel guilty for what their doing to themselves. They want to bring you down, hell they'll bring anyone down with them as long as they aren't wallowing in pain alone.
Whatever she did, she brought on herself because she's just flawed in some part of her life (i.e. her decision making skills and morals).
He's trying damn hard to suck up to me, which makes me feel uncomfortable
Good, keep him at an arm's distance away. I meant it when I said keep your enemies close. Just don't friend a person who even think about hurting you. (unless it was for your own good; but not the I'm-going-to-fuck-your-girlfriend-and-show-you-she-is-a-slut-and-I-wasn't-lying kind of good)
Well, I definitely do need to improve my choice in women. I've made a pact to myself that I'll try my hardest to find a woman whose smart, kind, and funny. Looks are a definite plus, but shit.
I didn't know her type until it was too late, really.
Trust me, I'll have conversations with the guy, I'll go to the club with him. But I am going to keep him at arm's distance. I know I can't trust him, I'd just be asking for another problem if I did.
Thank you sir for your advice, I really know I couldn't have controlled anything that happened. But next time, I'm going to be adamant in my beliefs, confident that she won't be unfaithful, and if she does; fuck it. There are billions more women...millions that would LOVE to meet a guy like me. I mean damn! I'm in college bro.

well, obviously she was the one who did it, I didn't force her to have sex with him. All I'm saying is I could've been more confident, she wouldn't have had the need to be overprotective, and blah blah blah. Nonetheless I can't act as if I had no part in causing it to happen.

That may be true; it doesn't make it any less real. It will affect your decisions, you'll feel it. Just know that it's not like it'll never happen again, but I disagree with people who say there's "the one". There's "the millions".

[–]sturmeh 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sorry, I was referring to getting to know your local meetup group, from what I've seen the NYC one is very large.
Surely that'd net him enough friends to solve his problems.
[–]T3hJ3hu 6 points7 points8 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The next time you go out to sarge, make your target friends instead of women. Open sets of guys that are having fun and look like they're pretty decent at the art of seduction, to save yourself some headaches further on down the line. Hell, while doing this, you might actually end up pulling in more women, just because you'll be there having a good time instead of trying your damndest to pick up chicks.
Alternatively you could join a club for something you love, like some form of sports league, some writing/art classes, the Freemasons, or even find your local reddit meetups -- although that last one might not help with the ladies too much. ;)

I'm back in New York after several years away. I don't really know, but I'm trying to find out too. I plan on going out at almost any opportunity I'm invited. I'm not willing to settle for boring small-talk. That doesn't mean I'm always going to jump to deep serious topics. It means I'm going to be wiling to show myself in any interaction. I'm thinking these things will help.

[–]AboveThee 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My suggestion is to find local bars/pubs that have certain events during the week... For example by me there's a trivia night that I go to regularly. You will tend to see the same people and have more comfortable interactions each time you go. This won't give you an automatic "crew" but it's a start
I never get how the hivemind works. I posted a similar question a while ago and got ignored. I guess it's all in the presentation--just like seduction.
[–]revtrot 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
this is tough. no easy answer. i was in your same situation but much worse. what worked for me was Meetup.com and starting to become a regular at certain places.
in this day and age of facebook and all that social media shit you can easily create groups around things you are interested in.
[–]sevencoves 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I'm starting to think that to make friends and to be considered a social person, you have to have money to do so. Why? Because I notice that the people that have developed a crew of friends are the ones that plan stuff, invite people out places, host parties...basically do the work of getting people together. And you need money to do that, which I have none of.
When I had more money I was more social and could do more stuff with my friends and wasn't lonely.
Am I wrong in this? Am I missing something?

[–]otayyo 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Money is a factor, but not for everyone. Some people need to be doing things that cost, while some are happy to enjoy free activities. I actually prefer doing things that are generally low-cost.
[–]revtrot 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
i think you are dead on. but IMHO its not so much money its also time. i have friends (girls and guys) who work in Finance and the Medical profession who have all the fucking money in the world but they dont have time ever to go out. a friend of mine she probably makes $40,000 a month but she has not been on a date in over 3 years because she is always on-call from her job.
back to the topic.
if you dont have money dont worry. find time. if you find time to do stuff you will be golden. try Meetup.com, start volunteering, start being part of some group that is low cost/free.
i know summer is ending but if you can plan a low cost BBQ like $5 or $10 per head thats gold.
