SHORT VERSION One very common argument used by feminist movements and mainstream medias to explain gender dynamics of conflict is "Men behave like this because they are scared of losing their privilige" or "...of a woman who controls her own sexuality" and stuff like this. Why do you think supposed men's fears play such a big role?

LONG VERSION Now I want to bring this up because I believe it sits very close to the center of the whole gender conflict thing. I am a man, I identify as a person who really is for equality. I would describe myself as a men's right activist but also as a feminist when it is about certain specific issues. I am closer to the MRA movement anyway. My girlfriend is a reasonable person "but" she comes from a gender studies kind of background, which only creates huge bias in my experience. Often we mildly fight about gender issues and I noticed that she explains many behaviours of men with the argument "they are scared to lose privilege" or in general they are scared about something. This happens all the time on mainstream medias, you read stuff like "men are scared of independent women", "men are scared of women who control their own sexuality". But also people who are educated and reasonable (I am not here to question whether my gf is a reasonable person) do the same. To me it seems ridiculous, I feel like it is just another way of taking advantage of the social dynamic because of which men are expected to prove themselves. They know that challenging a man with "you are scared of.." gives them some measure of power since it is somewhat of a sensitive spot for every man. But from a sociological scientific perspective I think it is rubbish. What is your take on this?

I am thinking of posting the same in a feminist subreddit and see what they say lol
