This might seem like an unusual question—who would think of refugees or immigrants as sexual competition, right? However, after spending time in various manosphere and RW spaces, I’ve noticed a recurring theme that makes me wonder if there’s more to it.

With immigration and refugee issues back in the news, I’ve seen many RW/manosphere accounts criticizing women, particularly those on the left for supporting policies that welcome immigrants and refugees. One idea that keeps popping up in these circles is that if most immigrants/refugees were “hot foreign women,” then Western women would oppose immigration. This sentiment is often expressed through memes and posts like these:

This line of thinking makes me wonder if some of the opposition to immigration from certain men is rooted in a fear of sexual competition. It’s almost as if they assume women would only support immigration if it benefits them sexually—so they project that fear onto women, assuming they’d react the same way. They usually use the Thai women immigrants to Sweden incident as an example to support their case.

Interestingly, despite claims of male solidarity, I’ve noticed many RW men speak negatively about male immigrants or refugees, often labeling them as “invaders” or “military-age men” who should be deported. This brings to mind the refugee crisis in 2015 when some countries claimed they would only accept women and children. Men’s rights activists were outraged, rightfully calling it discrimination, yet it seems that some men might actually prefer this kind of immigration system. During the Ukraine conflict, some men even expressed excitement that most refugees would be women, would “rub it in” Western women’s faces, as if these women would suddenly become anti-refugee out of fear of losing their partners.

I’ve also seen posts like this one where some men explicitly say they’re fine with immigration as long as it’s only women, possibly because they think it will improve their chances of finding a partner. This makes me wonder—do they assume women support immigration for similar reasons?
