There have been popular cases as well as local ones that have undisputably proven innocence in men when it comes to sexual assault however it doesn't necessarily lead to them having a reputation stored and in fact can be more damaging. And because of this I don't think it's wrong to have at least scrutinize every accusation because the stigma and the actual punishment can be very intense. Some of the worst treated inmates in the law system are child molesters and rapist. They often get ostracized, beat up, murdered and in some cases sexually assaulted themselves in prison. Outside of prison even the accusation can result in you losing peace, ostracized, physically threatened, and some cases actually killed. I think of a sports star who had pictures, and text message receipts from this woman and from the woman's friend who actually confess to wanting to lie about sexual assault and the guy still hasn't got his life back. I think of the three Duke students who are accused by one woman. And because of this they called the boys racist and rapist. No because of scrutiny they were never put in jail because there was no evidence to support it. But because the accusation their lives were messed up. (On a side note that woman is in jail for stabbing her boyfriend to death). Even in my personal life I know a friends who've gone through something like this and it caused unreparable damage. In one case this guy had a missing daughter and he backtracked the number on the call history and found out it belonged to a man. This man blasted The friends number and address all over Facebook until he went to the house with guns to almost kill him. What they found out is that My friend was paying for his daughter's cell phone and that's why I came up under his name. And another instance this woman accused a younger friend of mine of sexually assaulting her near the locker room. But in reality he didn't touch her. Cameras down the hall prove that all he did was give her something that she dropped. But the truth came to light only after local news articles picked it up and made him the face of teenage monsters. But regardless it should not be a surprise or even insulting when these type of things are investigated. I believe that all instances of accusation should be investigated and then the person judged accordingly. And fairly.
