I hold the door for anyone close enough behind me to warrant it, or I'll wait for someone if they're carrying something. This unrelated to gender.

No, I don’t (unless it’s someone—female or male—who’s disabled or carrying something heavy).

I’ve seen women openly mock men who do this or stand aside to let women go first. Other women will treat it with casual indifference and not even acknowledge the gesture.

You’re right, it’s a highly misandric atmosphere. So don’t reward it.

I do... but I'm a gay guy. I'm mostly holding it for guys, who almost always say "thank you." I do it for girls, too, out of fairness... but that fact that less than half say "thank you." Makes more than half of women seem either entitled or suspicious... and I just perceive the suspicious ones as a minor threat to avoid.

So I rejected my patriarchal training and became truly equal in my behavior towards women.

I do it for anyone depending on the timing the other person and I get to the door. I don’t do it for any reason other than I want to be polite person regardless of how other people act.

I'm Swedish - we tend to hold the door for everyone (if they're going to pass soon after us through the door). It confused a Portuguese girlfriend i had, because apparently it's not a thing there :)

If by holding the door you mean opening it and then waving people through like a door man, then probably for anyone with a bunch of kids, a stroller, a lot of boxes or bags in their hand, or the elderly.

If you mean just walking through first but doing that stretch or push thing in order to keep the door open for the next person coming through then I do that for everyone.

I'd never do either for a woman on the basis of her sex alone.

I am generally a quiet and fairly polite person...This should not be mistaken as being a nice person.

I use to for everyone but not women anymore. If a women is behind me I’ll try to speed up to increase the distance to the point where it’s not reasonable for me to hold the door for her. Had way too many instances where women thought I had some form of crush on them because I held the door open for them. An exception is if I know she’s a genuinely nice person but no way to really know that by looking at a stranger. Generally only hold the door for men and children.

Where are you all from? I'm from the midwest, not a small city but not large, but it's definitely not the middle of nowhere, and I can't remember the last time I wasn't told thank you for holding the door open, man or woman. As a result, yeah, I still do it just because it seems like the polite thing to do for anyone. If I was met with no gratitude often, however, I might find myself doing it less and less.

Men or older women or frail or pregnant or laden etc? Yes.

Remember the older generation will see it as a sign of respect, it's only the younger ones brainwashed into seeing it as a sign of contempt. I try to respect those who still respect me and save my rudeness for those who don't.

I do. But, where I live everyone holds the door for others coming behind them. It is normal courtesy. So, when it is a woman, I just wait for her to go through first. Most appreciate it.

At my university everyone holds the door open for everybody, and there has been nothing but either quick thank yous or polite smiles, which to me at least is the best way to go about it.

I do it for my girlfriend, and basically only my girlfriend, and that’s because I know she’s never once asked for it or expected it and she’s made it incredibly clear she’s not a feminist and never will be, and she’s grateful for me to treat her like a lady. In turn, I’ve witnessed that she is more than willing to do acts of kindness for me. I respect women who respect me, and I have no problem respecting women who aren’t following double standards or feminist inequality standards. If she wants to be traditional with me, I will give her the kindness and respect I show anyone who I believe is a decent and honest human being.

Would I hold the door for any other woman besides maybe my mother or sister? -Hell no!!! If it is for an elderly person of any gender or for a child, sure…Why not? I’m not treating the average woman in general like a lady though, unless they can go out of their way to demonstrate to me that they are worthy of that title.

Only for my wife (yes I know it's kind of an unpopular thing to be married here, what with MGTOW and all, but I've already been married more than 9 years).

My wife would probably be very unhappy if I held the door for another woman or did anything like open a drink bottle they couldn't open or whatever.
