I hate how bourgeois politicians always just get away with making any dumb ol' statement sans even minimal effort to elaborate on or justify it. This one is highly moronic on its face, as citizens who voted against any given regime obviously have no direct responsibility for its accession to power.

Significantly, Kallas implicitly denies the Marxist positions that the masses including their ideology are dominated by a ruling class—as Marx and Engels said, "[t]he ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas"—and that the state is actually said class's instrument of control, meaning that citizens are hardly meaningfully responsible for its actions. I don't think that denial is a coincidence on her part, given that she presides over a former Soviet state that restored capitalism just three and a half decades ago.

Kaja Kallas is not PM of Estonia. One google would say that.

There is also deeper reason why countries like Estonia can't give asylum to Russians. Start of Ukrainian invasion 2022 demonstrated it when local Russians were actively used to check out military movements and damage from attacks and target information.

Estonia already has many local Russians, it's just smart for them to make it harder for GRU to plant more.

Unfair. But it’s not purely of hate. Basically Russian back in the USSR had some habit to switch local population with Russian, to keep an anchor. This is why Ukraine is partially Russophon today.

Well in Estonia it’s the same but worse, Russian are almost a majority there. And Estonia has no way to know if the one fleeing are refugee, or men sent by Russian government to light up pro Russia movement

I don't agree that citizens should be punished for the actions of their government, but I also think it's untrue to say there is no obligation or responsibility. Many countries in Eastern and Central Europe, including Estonia, did have resistance movements, revolutions, and protests to get where they are today, while Russia has not developed the same culture of protest or democracy, and ultimately this has allowed for the state of the country today. That doesn't mean russians deserve suffering or innately bad by virtue of ethnicity, but realistically change in russia has to come on some level from the people, and it's not like Estonia has no grounds to stand on; nevermind that the faults of russia are an active threat to those around it, or that for somewhere like Estonia, allowing in Russians is a security risk (personally I think that western countries should just take the refugees rather than countries which have a history of facing subjugation and oppression from russia and who have very real concerns regarding russia)

I agree that you shouldn't hold people accountable for the actions of others, especially in regard to power, and people should be able to flee dangerous situations, such as forced conscription. But at the same time, we should be able to criticize complacency, especially when it is resulting in the unnecessary deaths of thousands and a genocide. German citizens didn't deserve to suffer warcrimes during WW2, and were refugees as much as any one fleeing war, but it would be wrong to ignore that German society and culture of the time lead to one of the darkest chapters of human history, and that many chose complacency until it was too late. The same is true of russia, the states, and many other countries. It doesn't mean the people from these places are evil or deserve to die, but there are issues that have to be addressed by those who live there.

Also, the assumption that all russians fleeing are anti imperialists who hate the war, while logical, is just not true. Whether that be that they are only against putin but not of russian imperialism (which, yknow, bad for somewhere like Estonia) or they do support the war but are just saving their own skin, it's not true that everyone dodging the draft is doing so out of an anti imperialist and humanitarian stance
