Female queens were as happy or more happy to engage in wars than their male counterparts.

I’d love to see a bunch of feminist misandrists go try to start their own society on an island somewhere. Men could even help build it, but once established they couldn’t rely on men at all. No products men played any part in making could be imported. Any services would have to be provided only by women. I’d love to see how that would go.

Some people tend to portray female only societys as some kinda crime free utopia.

In reality I doubt they would be much different from any other society - if anything they would possibly have an even higher rate of crime.

Look at female prisons and lesbian relationships , that both have very high rates of crime and violence.

Women would very quickly fill any "gaps in the market" left by men, including crime and sex crime.

Women also tend to be more cliquey and socially aggressive than men - so it would likely lead to a much more tiered and hierarchical society than a traditional one.

Women tend to portray a female centric/exclusive society as a kinda heaven - but I honestly think it would be way worse than a traditional one.

I see this a lot: feminists say that if the roles were reversed and women ran the world, it would be a utopia and perfect, but it would probably be the exact same situation as when men run it.

OP, here is the easy way to refute these claims. There is one word that kills this idea: Michfest

What was Michfest? It was the Michigan Womyn's (sp) Music Festival, a feminist event that was women founded and run by radical feminists women and billed as the "ultimate safe space for women." Well, guess what happened? A woman was raped by another woman and the organizers of the festival didn't report it and tried to cover it up to save the image of the festival.

Basically, they did the same thing many churches and other organizations run by men have done. So yeah, humans just suck and having something run by women does not mean it will be any more ethical or enlightened.

Bear Grylls tested this somewhat. You can find it on YT. He put 8 men on one island and 8 women on another island. LOOOONNNGGG story short by like day 5:

The men had an automatic water filter system, established jobs and roles, huts, a constant fire, had hunted an alligator, were getting better at fishing to the point where food and water wasn't even a problem anymore they were just building benches and tables for fun.

The women had no shelter, no water, no food and had to be bailed out by the camera crews and emergency rations because they were starving to death.

To make it more "fair" they put 2 men on the women's island on like day 6 or 7 and the women INSTANTLY went from victims to sunbathing and play on the beach while the 2 men broke their backs using all the fishing and building skills they had developed on the other island to build up this one.

And the 2 women that went to the mens island? Well they were in paradise. No work, no responsibilities, mostly because they had no skills to offer and so they lived like queens. The men were not happy about this at all but you they had no choice and had to listen to the producers.

There are a few problems with research in matriarchal societies.

- They are far and few between. That can easily result in sampling biases.

- They tend to be smaller indigenous cultures as the poster pointed out which means we don't really know if matriarchies scale with large industrialized societies.

- The conditions for matriarchal societies to exist could also be responsible for men being peaceful calling into question correlation vs causation.

- Matriarchal societies are not a feminist utopia either. They can still adhere to many traditional gender roles between men and woman.

- As others have pointed out when woman are put in the same positions as men politically, economically and socially within our own society they are often just as bad or in some cases worse than there male contemporaries.

Women tend to celebrate gossip and passive aggression, they are no less cruel because subtle.

A lot of times people bring up Bonobos. They are a matriarchal society and considered the hippies of chimps. Well, that's half a myth. They are matriarchal, but can be just as violent as chimps.

Female bonobos will gamg up on defiant males, if not get one of the other males to take care of the defiant one. For instance, when two bonobo groups meet, the females all greet each other with genital to genital contact. Females will mate with males. Males that don't play along are attacked.

The first one that comes to mind is the one feminism is explicitly based on: The Iroquois (the Indians from the French and Indian War). They were effectively ruled by Clan Mothers who selected a man to act as a token leader but can (and did) remove him if he didn't do what they wanted. They spent at least the last 200-300 years of their history (before they lost the war) genociding all of the surrounding tribes.

Many matriarchal societies are not tremendously advanced technologically. We haven't seen any that are so far as I know. The Iroquois are the only ones who had serious power that I know of.

A meta-analysis looking at leadership ability found no sex differences (done in the 2010s if I remember correctly).

Its a bit tricky to tease apart the data, but you could look at female leaders vs male leaders in Europe for more data.

Based on what I know of the data, we're probably equally capable of leadership and there is no reason to believe women are better, more just, etc. leaders.

Where has it ever existed and worked beyond the situation where there’s a female matriarch by birth who is thrust into power and basically groomed for the role by other men her whole life? Yeah, like Queen Elizabeth II and even Queen Victoria both ran the place pretty well, but these are lone figures in a sea of male leaders throughout history. So I suppose it could be possible, but highly unlikely a matriarchal society thrives and even survives long term (maybe like 100+ years). Men would just get sick of hearing it from a woman and eventually revolt or softly relieve her of her power somehow. I don’t think any significant proportion of competent and capable men would be happy taking (potentially life threatening) orders from a woman.

your actual question is fair but the framing is telling. ‘handing the keys to women’ as if women are asking for total domination and not just equal participation in governance. ‘egalitarian fairy tale feminists love to go on about’ as if wanting equality is naive and cute. nobody serious is arguing for a matriarchal takeover. most feminists are arguing for equal representation in systems that currently exclude them. you set up a strawman of ‘women want to rule everything’ and then congratulated yourself for knocking it down. also the reason no large matriarchal empires exist isn’t proof women can’t govern it’s proof patriarchy violently stamped out every alternative for thousands of years. About the point re: creating a society where men aren’t the load-bearing stoic warriors. I don’t think you will ever change that because our biology is just too much wired that way. If there was a war or contest to determine who are the most badass warriors in society who have the ability to wipe the other tribes out, i think it’ll always be the tribes where men play those stoic warrior roles. And if a society doesn’t have men to play those roles, then the other societies where the men are stoic, hardened warriors will wipe the former tribes out,
