What do you guys think about having a weekly post where feminists can ask questions about the movement, it's beliefs and the reasons for them?

Feminist lurker here (though I have posted two comments here before). I would love to have open discussions with the people of this subreddit. I just don't want to be the only feminist here because I get the feeling a one-on-one conversation may break down into 7 different MRAs coming at me all at once.

There is no rule against anyone asking whatever question they want in any thread on the subreddit.

If people want to ask questions they can already do so. No need for any kind of day.

People often arrive here angry, it's the only emotion that society allows men to have. We are taught to be aggressive from birth, and we aren't allowed to ask for help. While that anger is perfectly valid, it won't create the kind of conversation you are considering.

If the idea is to create a proper debate, then it needs to involve the more reasonable people from either side. There's no reason to think feminists are generally better at seeing the opposing point of view. In fact the evidence strongly suggests that feminism is closed to debate.

I think this would have to be carried out on neutral ground. Not least because moderating discussion is against the ethos of MR. Perhaps limited people can post in the discussion, but there is a parallel thread in the relevant subs where everyone can comment. The people in the discussion could act as editors for their sub.

I'm a dad blogger and have had stuff published on The Good Men Project, which from what I've read in r/MensRights, seems to be looked at as "the enemy" (which I could be totally wrong about). So sometimes I get timid about sharing stories because of that. I also am co-founder of a group dad blog that sometimes discusses MRA issues, and my goal is to basically take any dad-issue, including MRA stuff, and make it palatable to the average guy. Your average dad blogger doesn't really care about family courts and custody laws, so I try to cover it when I can or when there's a larger issue type thing. I'm the guy that doesn't want to see anyone slapped in a commercial - men or women. I don't want to see the idiot dad commercials where dads are looked at like kids, but also don't want to see the Carl's Jr. commercials where bikini-clad women are looked at as objects.

So I'm interested in both sides and would love that larger conversation to go on here (and it'd be great if it were somehow coordinated every now and then with r/feminism or whoever their subreddit is).

Anyway, thank you. I like when we can say "let's take a step back and really do this logically." I think men NEED to be pissed about issues and take to action, but we need to do it logically and taking women into account, because we can all be our biggest supporters somewhere in the middle.

Our place is not to welcome them. They are already as welcome as anyone else. Considering that Reddit is at least semi-anonymous, they can ask questions without issue.

I be all for this, as long as define strict rules where set, like no flaming, if one cite stats it must be sourced etc etc. That way its less about emotions and more about logic and that issues.

I think we just need to clarify what men's rights is, and get the radicals out of here because they will destroy the cause before we get any awareness. After that, we just need to peacefully spread the message and encourage feminists to pose questions, and then let Reddit up vote the best answers.

It pains me to say, but this is a waste of time. You will be doing nothing but feeding trolls. You will not change anyones mind, nor will you have the 'productive dialog' we'd all like. Feminists are hardcore fanatics and a truly ugly pack of screeching bitches. Adria Richards is a mild case.

I don't agree with this. Our goal shouldn't be to interact with feminists, but to reach out to those who are already inclined to be like-minded. It is good to respond to their arguments -- for inoculation purposes, if for no other reason -- but otherwise, it makes no more sense for us to host them than it would for Democrats to have a "let the Republican ask questions" day.

Of course, they are already free to ask questions, any day of the week.

I like the idea of this and wish we had a place for people to connect in a more one on one fashion but between fear of trolls and fear of losing anonymity due to stuff both sides have done I do not think it will work out very well. Few people are willing to help and offer a hand if it means a chance of getting their hand bit off.

We should also make a concerted effort to be as respectfull and constructive as possible.

These are feminists, we know that from the start. In this case we can't ridicule them for holding differing views, not when we are the ones inviting them.
