Consequences for disrespect?

I am learning how to deal with this kind of shit from my wife. When she goes nuclear over some insignificant issue (drama at work / kids didn't pick up shoes / I did something she didn't like) and throws a tantrum, I now stop arguing, stop discussing, put my hands on the table, and tell her "you are out of control and this conversation is over'. Then, I go for a jog or work on something in the garage. She knows she has a real problem with her temper. When you put your foot down in a real yet level fashion and then disengage, it removes the oxygen. Then the flames go down on their own.

It isn't my natural reaction. I am a peacemaker, and I just want shit to be cool. But after years of failing to reason with the oldest teenager in the house, I changed my response. It works much better. She never apologizes, because AWALT, but it puts her in check. What she wants is a fight, and to spread misery. Fuck that. I have no desire to tolerate that kind of behavior. My time is my greatest asset, and I refuse to allow it to be wasted in this kind of manner.

What do you guys do when your wife is a total bitch?

In the past you could put her over your knee and spank some sense into her. Today, the only power men have is the power of our commitment. You take it away by ignoring her and not reinforcing bad behavior.

However, many guys forget this only works if your presence is reinforcing to your woman. If it isn't, then she can act like a bitch and get rewarded by you ignoring her. If it is, then when she acts like a bitch then doing what we suggest IS the punishment.

You do exactly what most of the comments suggest, ignore her. Better still laugh at her then go out. Go for a walk, go to the gym, hang out with friends, take kids out for ice cream. Ignore her texts or calls. STFU is a powerful tool.

My wife came to me tonight and said "I need some love" and then bent over and put her hands on the counter to be spanked. Not a hug or kiss. Think about that and your situation. You need to channel her emotions into an acceptable outlet.

Happened to me today. We went for a long walk. Half an hour into the walk, we are discussing a not insignificant topic - being polyamory - and, she blows her top, turns back and walks in the direction of home. Old me would have run after her. Today I just continued walking. When I got home she is all kisses and sweetness. (The poly thing is still contentious.)

So here is how I handled it.

"Lower your voice," "did you hear me ?" "Lower your voice and change your tone".

"DID YOU NOT Fucking hear me ? I said enough of this disrespectful shit ! Do you like it when I raise my voice and talk down to you ? " Tears.

Lowered my voice. "That is enough of all of this." The screaming over her controls the dialogue and then the immediate lower of the voice sets the tone you are in control

I usually just make fun of her. If she continues then I just stop talking to her and giving her validation. Not as in total silent treatment, but I stop having conversations and doing stuff with her.

I actually disagree that yelling back would be entering her frame. It's very important for a man to set boundaries.

Men basically exist to guard boundaries. When your wife gets outta line, you need to stop her, immediately. If that means yelling back, then yell back. But use such overwhelming force that she thinks twice about doing it again.
