Link: People are just so mean to ugly women. Please be kinder, Reddit

I opened this thread initially because I imagined someone being really cruel and calling her ugly in her day-to-day, and felt bad, because I know that it can be rough for girls who are robbed of one of their most powerful assets: high SMV.

However, reading her account of going to the dance club with her friends and complaining how people "went out of their way to kick her" made me lose all sympathy for her. She was basically treated the way a man would be at a popular club--no more, no less.

When we got to the club, we got a nasty surprise. We had been told that tonight there was no cover charge for girls, and so none of us had brought much cash on our person. Well, our info was wrong. They did indeed ask for a cover. Only one of us 6 girls had cash, and she only had enough to cover two people. When we got to the door and found this out, a group of guys behind us volunteered to help us out.

Treatment like a man #1: She expected to get into the club for free because she's a girl, but it turns out they charged cover. Why, on a night out, would only one of 6 bring cash with them?! Oh... they expected to get everything bought for them because they're girls...

[[The guys behind them pay for all the friends, except for OP]] The guys were doing everything to avoid eye contact with me. They were looking at the ground, the street, pretending to look through their wallets for cash to cover one more girl. It was so painfully obvious that I felt like just going home.

Treatment like a man #2: She expected a stranger to pay for her, but they didn't. Again, as a guy out in the nightlife, no stranger will ever give you money just by virtue of your genatalia. It sucks that the contrast was drawn between OP and her hotter friends, but it's no worse than daily life as a dude.

It wasn't long before other guys started dancing with us. We kind of paired off slowly, there was a guy whose two buddies had started dancing with other girls and he was left alone. At that point I too had lost track of my friends and was alone. He started dancing with me, but the whole time he seemed really distracted. Not once did he really look at my face, he was kinda looking around the club the whole time, like he was browsing the scene for another, more attractive girl he could bounce to. In less than 10 minutes, he had seen one. He peaced out without a word, and I saw him dancing a few minutes later with a very attractive brunette. The way he acted with her was just SO different than when he had danced with me. He was face to face with her, smiling, dancing enthusiastically.

Treatment like a man #3: The dancefloor is a harsh, unforgiving critique of your SMV. A man, approaching on the dance floor, has a likely possibility of rejection. Possibly a rude rejection that would otherwise break your pumped up, confident state. A half-hearted dance before the other person silently bounces away is probably how a good number of approaches made by average guys end up.

[[A photographer was trying to snap a picture of OP's group]] But after a while I realized he wasn't circling us to get our best angles. He was trying to get a frame without ME. If I moved closer to the center of the group, for instance, he would tilt his camera a little the other way. I couldn't believe it until finally, he actually came up to me and asked me to get out of the shot.

Treatment like a man #4: Clubs don't need men to promote themselves. Clubs need hot women to be there, and men to show up for said hot women long enough to spend money. If you're not an average-to-hot woman, then the club isn't really invested in catering to you--ugly women and the bottom 99% of men are in the same boat here.
