Why do a lot of men these days choose the soyboy look?

My guess is its hard as a guy to really pose for a picture. You look either pissed off or goofy. Few men are very photogenic, and the turn of phrase "lights up the room with a smile" is not often referring to men.

Basically men don't look great in most pictures, don't know what to do, and are just trying to fake it.

In the philosophical sense, it’s because—like anything the effeminate does—it’s all about what’s convenient and short-term gains (with long term consequences) much like how children think. Soyboys and females are basically children that opted to resign themselves to being perpetual children, because “manning up” is too arduous and daunting for them. It takes grit to “man up,” it doesn’t take any sort of mental fortitude to be a little sissy. As cover, they seek to try to invalidate masculinity to compensate, but the inalienable truth is masculinity is the highest order of being on earth. The closest thing to “God “ we have is the essence of true masculinity: stoicism, patience, care for the weak, aggression, persistence, life, light, warmth, logic, positivity, etc — the Taoist perspective.

In all seriousness tho, soyboys are a real phenomenon (whether soy driven or no) and as a bisexual male i can tell you it’s even more disappointing when you get their clothes off. (You don’t always know what you’re dealing with until it is too late).

It is bizarre because is not masculine. I believe the try to show they are not toxic masculinity men. To do so, they trying to create their own image from a feminine perspective to comply with the progress narrative.

One thing you're going to notice in any nu-male, soyboy etc is the lack of threat, their primary goal is to show they are no threat to anybody therefore they not bad males therefore they are good boys.
