It's for the fantasy of the girls actually being attracted to them. The dynamic is basically a new age version of a guy giving his favorite hooter's waitress a huge tip. I feel like most of them know inside that they will never have a chance, but they suspend their disbelief because they're so lonely it's the closest thing they could have to real affection. It reminds me a little more of 'idol' culture than of strip clubs/porn, because it's specifically the egirl/eboy as a Sexy Person rather than an isolated Sexy Experience. Like, someone might have a 'favorite' stripper, but that's not most people who go to strip clubs, since I understand for most it's an environment where they feel powerful/masculine or more a way to scratch an itch.

But with idol culture, you get men and women positively fawning over the idea of a (usually, sexy) person who is distinctive, widely desired, but 'technically available'. Idols can't have boyfriends/girlfriends, for the most part - it would ruin the illusion and drive away the fans. People are shelling out for someone they can imagine in bed with them, but also like... getting dinner, seeing a movie and making jokes together, making breakfast in pajamas, buying them a bouquet of flowers and having that gesture sincerely appreciated by the object of their affections. It's a fantasy, and it's usually a sex fantasy, but it's also a lot more than a sex fantasy. It's a companionship fantasy, a 'more desirable than your many other admirers' validation fantasy, a happier-world fantasy where the pretty video game/pop star girl/guy is in love with you and appreciates you and probably also is down to have sex with you.

If the stripper grinding on you has a boyfriend, you probably wouldn't feel betrayed. You're probably imagining fucking her but it's not... illegal to have sex with someone who's got a boyfriend, it doesn't interfere with your fantasy.

Egirls/eboys and idols don't have girlfriends/boyfriends/spouses or they lose income/forfeit a measure of their popularity, because them loving someone else critically interferes with the fantasy that they only love you.

They're paying for a fantasy - what socially isolated, lonely men with obscure hobbies (i.e. gaming) crave more than anything is a woman who shares in their interests. So years ago my friend was getting tired of stripping, or at least wanting a more diverse income stream, and she told me she was considering doing this “thing” where she played video games on a stream and people would donate. I’d never heard of twitch and wasn’t into gaming then, so my kneejerk (and internal) reaction was basically “girl that sounds dumb as shit, don’t sell your Pleasers”.

Well, she does decently at it! I was very wrong. She both streams games and also plays with people too. Last time i talked about it she was doing the deeply typical pocket Mercy Overwatch thing, and I’m sure she’s incredibly personable when she streams. She probably does well for the same reason she does well dancing. She’s pretty and also has a great personality she can shoehorn into genuine curiosity and openness to people.

As for the guys? Pretty girls don’t always like the goofy stuff many guys are into. It feels good for them to not have to pretend to care about what the girl cares about and just have a sexy human talking to you about whatever nerd shit you’re into. (FWIW she genuinely enjoys the games she plays and is better at most games than i am, so she gets over the hurdle people have of feeling like the experience isn’t genuine.

There’s also a genuinely warm and therapeutic part this as well. Another friend of mine who mostly cammed made more money doing ASMR and basically virtual GFE emotional labor, literally, for people. I know many guys here balk at that phrase, but i feel it’s applicable here.

For instance, my original friend from this post even gets tired of having to be personable and extroverted and sometimes now prefers a day just lapdancing regulars than being a twitch nerd mommy girlfriend support healer.

TLDR: these men get something out of it most women wouldn’t do for free, and especially not one that pretty for them individually, in a relationship
