I’ve always felt this way. Men and loads of pick me will always say but it’s what you are. Yes. However, I have never ever heard anything not misogynistic come out of anyone’s mouth who exclusively uses the term females. Also it’s always females and then men.

Men are never referred to as "males", it's always us. My first language isn't English and when I was first learning it, I was shocked that this is a "correct" way of calling women. In French, we only call animals females and males.

Well of course "females" is different from "women" or "ladies." They're not synonyms at all. Female isn't a noun, for one thing. Plus it does have insulting, dehumanizing connotations to call a person "a female" or "a male" and everyone knows it.

100% agree. It reminds me of Ferengi and not in a good way. I also agree with other comments saying they don’t like to be called “girls”. I’m 18 and I’m already sick of it and want to be called a woman. If I can vote I’m not a “girl” anymore.

I've only seen younger (like under 40) people do this online. Most of them are TRP/PUA sorts and use "female" in a dehumanizing sense. Some are young women who likely don't realize it's self-objectifying.

Nothing is more grating than a comment that starts with "Well, as a female..."

The only time it’s okay, I vote, is in the intro to Kimmy Schmidt when the gay guy (never got super into the show and I forget, I’m sorry!) yells “FEEEEE-males are strong as hell!” (I think that’s what he yells? If so, then it’s okay. But every other time it is a red flag for a bag of trash.)

Yeah, that’s why I make a deliberate point to call them males. See how they like it.

Edit to add: pushing back by calling men “males” or “scrotes” is nothing compared to the hurt and damage they do to us. It might feel good to talk about men in a snarky or insulting way but ultimately because of the biologically-based roots of sexism, men will always win and they know it. Any man could violently attack and kill you if he wanted. There’s nothing we can do to them that they couldn’t do 10000 times worse.

i agree to a certain level. i think it's okay (in the sense of "ugh but fine") if someone says "males and females". however it seems like 99% of the time it's more like "men and females", which is a hard pass. mainly became it puts us on a completely different level - almost as if we're dogs or whatever.

so same. red flag for me.
