I don't generally talk to my exes. Every once in a blue moon I will send a very cool ex (from 2001) a cool music video or meme (and vice versa) because he's the only person on this Earth that could appreciate it with me, but we speak maybe once every 6-9 months and it is never about our relationship or anything related to it. He lives in my home state and I haven't lived there or even close driving distance to it since 2003.

I don't even have male friends that I regularly talk to.

No other forum is safe for us except this one. I've tried other ones and always get abused by men with "communicate", "not all men", and worse. I only feel comfortable here.

I just broke up with my ex of almost 3 years because of the same thing...and many other things also. Told him I was uncomfortable with him being friends with his ex on social media...took him 6 months to finally remove her. Next I found an I miss you letter to her in his email drafts. He convinced me he wasn't gonna send it. Ugh...I know. Next I was looking through his contacts and found her in a man's name on his whatsapp but the picture was hers. What a dumbass. He tried to explain that one away but I wasn't having it. You absolutely did the right thing and don't let that toxic relationship sub make you think otherwise. You are getting advice from pornsick cheating scrotes on there. You give them another chance they just take that as an opportunity to get even more sneaky and they lose respect for you and will continue to cheat. Good job...you won't ever regret your choice. Want to make a bet when he's in his next relationship YOU will be the ex his new gf will be having the issue with? These dudes never change. They are all so boring and predictable.

I was in a very similar situation with my ex. He broke up with me and went straight to talking to “the girl he told me not to worry about”. During our relationship he had blocked her finally, after I INSISTED he needed to do it.

I have an ex I’m on good terms with. But we don’t talk. I would never message him, not to mention he’s married now. And I wouldn’t be answering messages if he sent them to me. My BF is also on good terms with all his exes(as in the parted amicably enough), but they don’t speak. Why would they? The relationship is over and it’s not like they had kids.

I don’t think you’re being controlling or insecure. You told him your boundaries, you communicated and he blatantly ignored you. And for what? Some validation from an ex? Of course he is sorry now, but it shouldn’t take you leaving to be his first priority.

The only acceptable reason why anyone would be friends/communicate with an ex is if they have children together. Otherwise there is not need to be friends or talk imo. Move on and find other friends.
